I worked at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans in the surgery department for 3 years. I know the people and the places created and real inside and outside of the hospital personally. Will be really hard to watch this series but I will try.
The scene where all the houses close to the left break free from their foundation, reminded me of how my grandmom's house which was near the memorial was slanted against another house.
This is one I have been waiting on. This was suppose to have to been the focus of American Crime Story Season 2. Hence we got Versace instead. Apparently they couldn’t come to an agreement on how to film and tell this story properly.
Great review. I finished it tonight and am looking for what people make of how the main doctor appears to do the right thing in the tragedy vs having done the wrong thing in the aftermath. I think this is fine through how she is filmed. I have questions about what happened that make me want to dive deeper. For example, were ALL the doctors and staff forced out? This is key to understanding her decision.
Being the critic that I am ,I watched the first few minutes and the first thing I noticed was no one had a Louisiana accent. Second, the lady in the white suit {administarter?} came out in a hurricane in heels and a white suit! She changed into scrubs later. So ,going to go back and watch more. I was a home health nurse when this happened and took care of some of the evacuees
Filmed in Ontario in Canada. At least two of the characters are played by Canadians (the substitute doctor and the maintenance guy). I’m Canadian and when they use Canadian actors they stick out like sore thumbs to me.
I am from Louisiana (I live on the West Bank) and I couldn’t get past the first few minutes because of the horrible accent from the main male detective. No one sounds like that in the city. You might find a thick accent in some parishes that are out in the sticks but not New Orleans! I just can’t invest my time in a series where I’m aggravated with listening to stereotyped dialogue.
I work at what was Memorial. It is now owned by Ochsner and is called Ochsner Baptist. It’s interesting to say the least, but quite a few “artistic license” changes…
I love watching anything New Orleans related and have been waiting to see this. My only issue so far is that it’s obvious it was filmed in Canada. The Canadian character actors (the doc substituting for one on vacation + the maintenance guy) stick out like sore thumbs to me, more than the characters without New Orleans accents. But still heart wrenching to watch.
Can someone please explain to me why they only had until 5:00 p.m. to evacuate everyone? They couldn't come back later or the next day? Still don't understand why they couldn't have just used boats to get everyone out but I'm no genius maybe I'm missing something
We wasn’t there when it happened when California says we’re gonna have a disaster of flooding over here God help us we’re gonna be faced with the same situation they were
I would love to see a series of how Walt Disney built his studios and theme park. The imagineering story on Disney + was nice but I think Walt was only in the first episode.
@@blankname6629 Saving Mr. Banks! It was good, but just about how the movie Marry Poppins came to be. I’d love to see from the start of Mickey Mouse to how he built Disneyland!
So, from this, I venture a guess, that the location of such important service centers was let-down by the apathy of those in infrastructure management? The underlying foundation of the surroundings are to blame? Such trauma, I mean, aren't hurricanes a given in those zones? So, don't put people in a chaotic mess, requiring them to "deal with it" - before the 'cavalry' arrives - in my opinion, that's criminal.
Pretty good show so far we will see how it finishes. It’s going to need to take a sharp turn in the finale for it to follow what happened accurately. Otherwise it’s making several very serious accusations.
Cheers Chris, might give this a go. Real events I'd like to see turned into a movie that haven't been done already...First man to win a $Billion lottery - ME! ;) Seriously, can't think of any that haven't been done already. Was looking forward to Mongol II, if it ever comes out... _sigh_ Have they done a proper movie about the massacres that happened in the Balkan wars, near my homeland? I know there are a handful of movies, but they don't really portray anywhere near the extent & scale of atrocities committed (they probably could not TBH, some of the stories I've heard from 1st/2nd hand accounts are horrific, beyond words, beyond your worst imagination...).
I usually dont complain about TV series, but this one, OMG, became so garbage, I have to rant. That black doctor, screw him, I really want to use the N word on him. So high and mighty, like he is Ghandi or Shakyamuni reborn. The doctors, like Dr. Pou, had to make tough choices ok, period! In a war or terrible disaster, people die. You cannot save everyone. That black doctor made it seem like they could save everyone and it was wrong to end the suffering of some patients. Yeah just save the few 500 pound ones that will probably live another 2 or 5 years, but jeopardize the chances of the perfectly or near perfectly healthy ones, who will live decades post Katrina, from getting out. Plus, he basically played the black race card the whole series. I just could not take this politically correct BS anymore, after Ep7.

I broke down in the fifth episode and I’m not personally involved. I often don’t cry in movies. It’s brutal.

Spot on. I agree 💯 after just finishing the 3rd episode.
This is 100% my kinda thing. I will definitely need to check this out.
Thanks Chris will check this out. Apple TV Plus sure seems to be putting out some good material lately.
Saw it. This was well-done. Kudos.

I'd love to see that too!
I think they made a movie like that a couple of years ago that starred Tom hanks
