I've played in live death metal bands with a full drum set, yet i still find this really hard.

Interesting I play metal drums and the Bodhran or Riddle Drum as it's called here, and also the medieval Tabor. All drumming's great. Also how one kind of drumming effects another is interesting. Next drum kit I buy will be an all wooden one to get the sound I've learn't to appreciate from the other drums, on the other hand I use drum kit rudiments when playing the Riddle Drum, something you don't see people who have only learn't the Bodhran do. I haven't yet managed a blast beat on one yet but I'm close.

check out Donnacha Gough for a deadly hard bodhran groove. Personally I am not fond of metal music, but its fast double bass drum ostinato method is very similar to some bodhran sounds. Donagh is very solid and musical

DDU UD23, UUD DU23 what happens on 2, 3? Is there a musical notation? Because I can't get these to add up to 9/8 . I need the notes if anyone has.

Any suggestions for a beginner bodhran player as to a solid but tunable bodhran that will carry me through past the beginner stage? Thanks!

I know, Right ??! I'm like you, I can do way better but choose not to :- (because it would take too much practice:-) He makes me want to at least try someday.

Yeah......Mr. Weddle has competed and won silver and gold in solo performance at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. But I'm sure you've got nothing but golds. Feck off.
