This year was my first burn. The person who died was inexperienced with generators, and he/she was electrocuted. Not many people know that from what I've heard. Honestly, the rain did make it difficult. But the people who got their vehicles stuck were kind of their own fault. There was nothing but info coming from the burning man radio channel saying to not drive unless it was a medical emergency on the wet playa. Mud does nothing but cake onto your tires, and if you start spinning your tires, your completely fucked. It was kind of miserable for me only because of the mud, but it could have been way worse. I know many others had a really bad time. Id do it again honestly. Preparation makes perfect. If you can do this, imagine what else you could do. ***(I recently researched info on this death, and apparently, my side of the story is wrong, oops. It was a drug and health related death. There have been deaths linked to electrocusion in passed events.) My apologies for the misinformation.***

I was at burning man this year and all I can say is that it was ridiculously over dramatized. We were in our camper reading the news feeds and laughing out loud at how ridiculous they were. Also are you really stranded if your not trying to leave? The event doesn’t end until Monday and the roads opened on Monday. One more thing if people were worried we didn’t have enough food or water than that’s BS we had enough food and water for at least another week and if for some reason you didn’t you can go ask you neighbour who will likely be more than happy to give you some of theirs. Finally we have a full hospital and everything so in other words we were completely fine.
... then the rain dried up - as it does in the desert - and the festival raged on. Thousands of attendees had the time of their lives, packed out their own trash and headed back to "normal" life.
Imagine expecting a time of your life but instead you feel hungry, thirsty, tired, get trench foot, a great need to take a deep clean bath, your nice clothes you set up prior to the festival ruined, homesickness, your car stuck in the mud, and just overall a "fantastic" experience that was far from your expectations.
WHAT!!!! All they had to do was READ/LISTEN TO THE WEATHER REPORT before leaving for Burning Man. They should have come prepared!!! All Nevadans KNOW about that area. SIGH...
It's almost like camping in a desert flood plain is a bad idea or something. The crazy thing is that a lot of these people (and the event organizers themselves) claim to be Leave No Trace campers, but they leave their trash and indeed art installations behind in this otherwise pristine natural area. This year, they'll leave behind ruts, trash, and plenty of human waste. 70,000 people who don't know how to plan, camp, survive...all convened on a flood plain in the desert = a recipe for disaster.
this is the first rainfall since this started in 1986. people who just left, who walked out and left everything behind, will not be allowed to come back.
Lol. Not at all. We left no trace, as did most of our neighbors. Besides a long exit and the occasional nearly full portapotty it really wasn't bad. Anyone who has camped in the rain was fine. Sorry you get your info from news and richfluencers but the BS you believe was not the average experience. I'd do it again.
Love the clip of windshield wipers of a mostly underwater vehicle. Burningman did not get much rain, just lots of mud. Cell phone footage from actual attendees are much more interesting.
