Hey you're rOcKin' that bass! Really beautiful bass.. ☺️👍 More bass guitar reviews! Haha.. I play bass so I always get excited when I see reviewers of guitars do a bass guitar review! I will have to see if they have a lefty version of this beautiful bass guitar! Yeah I'm a lefty. So probably more expensive if they have one. But I'll check.. Keep the awesome reviews going.. I check 'em everyday.. (^_-)/

The nut slots are much deeper on a fretless because you dont have to clear the first fret, so that might explain the scratches.

    • @nate6692
      @nate6692 2 года назад +3

Indeed they are - even for a very conservative setup, you're lower by a fret height. But fretless players can take them down as low as zero. For a very low setup nut, you're going to cut into the back of the fingerboard , end of story.

Ironically, @@kelsodelroy, I just began paying a friend for his fretless model, only because I realized that the circulated line that slapping on a fretless kills the fingerboard - is a myth. The advisory is to apply a layer of protection (like the epoxy applied by Jaco Pastorius to his).

I think it’s rather amusing since the P-Bass means Precision Bass. It was named that because the frets make it Precision to fret the notes. Then you make it fretless

I really wish I could afford one of those. Tony Franklin is amazing. I've been a fan since he was with The Firm in the '80s and he convinced me that a fretless could work in a rock context. When I switched from guitar to bass in the '90s, I ended up buying a fretless and just fell in love with the way it feels. It didn't take long to learn to get my intonation right and now every time I've played a fretted bass since then, the frets have just felt like they were in the way.

The Dot markers are placed in a different position on the neck than a fretted bass. On the TF bass the Dot markers are for Correct intonation. Where as on a fretted bass the dots are at the fret. This is a small detail but A massive step forward so every bass player can play the fretless. and your goal on the fretless is to not sound like a fretless, and from there you get good.

Love Tony's fretless basses. I ended up with 2 of them by accident. Was trying to fix myself an annoying buzz in the black Franklin bass I bought when I accidentally destroyed the nut. Ended up buying an extra Franklin neck -- which are surprisingly easy to find on Reverb -- to fix my black Franklin bass, and then fixed the broken neck to build a Frankenstein bass with it. Robert Buchanan, a brilliant luthier from California, put together what ended up being a Fretless Fender Franklin Fralin Frankenbass for me. The tone is incredible!

I played guitar on and off for 20 years and just recently (in May) switched over to bass. I thought that I might have a bit of an adjustment period but, I can honestly say that it being fretless has actually helped me to not have such a learning curve coming from guitar. I also picked up a Fender Rumble lt25 with this and I wasn’t expecting too much to be truthful but, it is amazing!

As a bass player I don't know how much of a fan of a 3-way selector switch I'd be being used to two volume knobs for my pickups (I play an Ibanez bass with a PJ pickup configuration). I personally really like having the P pickup at around 75% and the J at 100%, makes the low end a lot clearer as opposed to a muddier tone when it's at 100/100, at least on my particular bass.

I'd love to have a fretless one of these days but I'd need a crutch with the fret markers.

That's a nice neck!! Plus, I've always loved colored Fender headstocks.

No red guitars anymore? I love the Lake Placid Blue, especially with matching headstock! I'd like to try frettless, but in my next life perhaps.

Sweet sounding bass! Looks like Chris Slade from ACDC played drums in that band with Jimmy Page too? Bit of a supergroup!

I found a '73 The Paul in good condition, t-tops & what looks like walnut body on Craigs list. He wants $1300....is it a good deal?

The firm was an 80s super group with artists who were famous from other groups as was in 70s with other supergroups.

The picking demo sounded like the intro to a Crucifucks song. Good stuff.

Interesting that he went with roundwound strings. Most fretless bassists use flatwound strings because it doesn't tear up the fretboard as much as roundwound strings.

Looks like the strings are flat wound... you don’t want to string through flat wound strings, the bend would separate the winding and expose the core wire... really shortening string life since they’ll eventually break at the bridge..

Yes, I remember the Firm, and I remember it was Jimmy Page's new band. But no, I didn't know Fender had been making the Tony Franklin P bass since 2006.

Not bad for a "Fretted guitar player". I find on fret-less that you can't dwell over, or try to fix mistakes. Just Keep playing. Most people won't notice them anyway. Keep up the good work.
