Great video Dan! I'm a high handicap player and recently went and filmed my SM8 fitting with the Titleist team in Thailand. It was such an eye opening experience for me. Previously I didn't get my wedges fit because a lot of people had said there was no point because had such a high handicap. After going through the process I really would suggest the worse you are the more you need the fitting. Good players can manipulate the clubs in different conditions. If your not as confident getting a professional to fit you into the right grinds can have such a big impact on your shotmaking ability and the confidence will come with it!
My son currently has Cleveland wedges, but we're off the rack.mCan see from this video the benefits of fitting & testing.He was looking at various new makes but when we discussed custom fitting the number of options mean the SM8's stood out. Due to get fitted next week
I play a 46P then 50, 54 and 58 in SM7, see no reason to change, love the S grind with 10 degrees of bounce in the 54 and 58 for bunkers and tighter winter lies around the green.
Nice video Dan. Definitely important to sort out the transition form irons to wedges, then the wedges themselves and the type of shots played. I used to play a 5 wedge bag, but as a weekend warrior it was totally confusing. So, I’m now on using 3 with a 45 PW from my iron set (120yd), 50/12 f grind sm6, which is for full shots (105yd) and for all approaches down to chips, just treat it like a putter and learn the touch of partial approaches, and then a 58/12 k grind sm6, which is never a full shot club, but instead used for control shots around the greens, heavy rough and bunkers an absolute pleasure 😃👍
Ben fitted my son for his irons (4 to 7 620cb's and 8,9 620mb's) absolutely amazing chap... Or as Daniel calls him "Boss man Ben" lol... Hopefully Daniel will catch up with Ben again at Yeovil GC 👍

Just got a second hand set of clubs after playing a second hand set of clubs since the 90s... Only taken them into the simulator twice... They feel strange (not fitted couldn't see the point when I play 18 times a year).
I carry a 46, 50 and 55. Never felt the need for any more loft than that. I can manipulate the head of the 55 quite happily. Prefer to have the options in the top of the bag not just distance but also for poor fairway lies, yes, not all fairways are perfect at ordinary club level.
I have SM6 wedges in 58 and 62 as my AP1 irons include a 52W. I can definitely notice that the vokeys are visibly worn, the grooves are not as sharp as they used to be and I am seeing less check/spin. However, I am also thinking it could be my technique that’s changed slightly causing this. Keen to try the SM8 on a monitor alongside my old wedges. Would be an interesting test for me to decide whether to upgrade or not. I mean, is the wear really to blame...?!
@@primafacie6442 Love them. Had the 60 bent to 59 and need to bend my 50 to 51 for a little better gapping. I did some custom paint filling to personalize them too.

Looking to sort out a wedge fitting, especially as I'm thinking about going to graphite shafted wedges to go along with my graphite irons. Seems difficult though to really find somewhere local that does decent wedge fittings.
Be interesting to see his 9 / PW gapping as you could start by weakening a PW from 46 to 48 (assuming his pw isn’t stronger than 46) then gap from there, 52,56,62.
That front foot step move is fascinating. Just shows you how different every golfers swing is and how they all can work. Likely another reason why its so important to get fitted by an expert!
Have just been lucky enough to win three SM8 wedges, I am slightly worried though that I won't be good enough to do them justice. I play off 18, strike the ball well enough but have never been a confident wedge player especially close in with the finesse shots. alos, I play Callaway X20 irons which are cavity backed and more forgiving. Would I be better off booking a lesson with my son's coach to learn how to play these wedges properly, they look stunning. Or would I ideally need CB wedges to gel into my iron set rather than learning to play blades, I love them and it was a fantastic prize to win, I just don't want to embarrass myself. Love to hear your thoughts Dan
Honest question. Wouldn't it be most simple to solve this with shaft length? Rather than loft change or bending a club? I mean I use a 58° as my last wedge and it's .25" longer than my 50°, helps me close the gap on my 54° so I can get them equally distance in dispersion, with different bounces (8° on the 58° vrs 12° on the 54°) turff conditions landing space etc..
What was the final setup? Did he get a 58 in between as well for versatility in the bag. Bought sm7s recently and opted for f grind in both 50 and 56 bent to 55 but 60 in L grind for different shots. I play in northwestern US with very soft ground so lot of bounce is my friend.
I have tried the SM8, and really liked them. Are now playing Pw 45, and them the the Hi Toe 50-54-58. Are considering to change to SM8. The fitter from Titleist said I shuld consider only two wedges: 52 F-grind, and 58 M or D grind. Are mostly playing in Norway, any idea what grind that will be best on my lob wedge? And what are the thoughts around only 2 wedges+ Pw? :)
Need to get the audio figured out on the videos Disagree quite a bit in an issue with adding five wedges to the bag for longer players. In all likelihood he’d probably get more use of the extra wedge versus an extra long club that rarely gets pulled My 3wood virtually never came out of the bag, as I wasn’t any more confident with it than my driver, and rarely pulled it for a fairway shot. More full swings in the shorter side seems like a no brainer
Rather than adding a 5th wedge to close gaps, couldn't you just weaken the lofts of the irons? Could keep the 62 and 56, switch out the 50 for a 52, and just bend the PW back 2 degrees. The gap could then be progressively spread down the iron set without being too discernable at any individual gap.
I much prefer old fashioned thin top line wedges. If the ball is sat up in the rough I like the idea of hitting high on the face with little weight behind the ball. It suits me. I really don't like the modern wedge that has a thick blade to counter-act what I have been doing for 30 years.
So what Titleist did was create a problem in sm6+7 and fix it in sm8 👍 I could hit a 62 straight up my own nose... There isn't a shot I couldn't play with my 60 that a 62 would help me with. I think it's just bad clubbing. I play pw + 52-56-60 with a range of grinds as I can play on a rock hard course one week and a bog the next week. 4 wedges is plenty but the gaps between them 56-62 is just wrong... I blame the fitter who put him in them Dan 😝.
sm6 46 came in a 6 8 and 10 bounce..the sm8 46 is only a huge 10 bounce..easy to claim lower cg when you have extra metal on the sole..but you may well break your wrists with it on a concrete summer fairway. dan says he uses a 60 but never uses it for full shots.so he just uses it for scottish bunkers and when hes in the shit...so i would bet my life that he always opens the face when hes using it...so why not just get a 62 ? is it because its golf and common sense goes straight out of the window?

Yes i've tried them. The difference you can really feel is in the lob wedges. They really help you with a penetrating flight as compared to the sm7s

Fitting ended up being today. Wow the SM8 are class. 52 and 58 worked best for me and ordered them.Fitting was at my club.

Pre-ordered the SM8's 50, 54 and 60. Upgrading from the SM5. Hopefully will see them in the next few weeks. Can't wait!!!

Still playing a 2009 Vokey 60* and zipping them back on my full shots. Am curious about switching out to a Vokey pitching wedge in the SM8

He hits it a long way, PW are now 8 irons, 5 wedges are now 3 - 4 wedges. Now he might have a huge gap between 54 and 62, try adding the 58...

Dan in todays club world saying you play PW, 56 and 60 is not helpful, is the PW 43, 46 or 48? if like me it is 43 you have to have at least 4 wedges
Same with me my AP3 wedge is 43* then go 48*, 54*, 60* in SM7
