The guy in black of TABLE A -- sorry I don't recall his name -- is a little bit self-righteous-- if not Orientalist (well, French people used to be notorious for their Chinoiserie fetishism). Don't mistake me -- I actually like his free-style dance -- upside down, shaking his butt. But the disapproving face he showed upon eating 台式马卡龙 (macaron) really makes me sick! Why does Taiwanese macaron has to follow and honor the French taste you are familiar with? Why cannot Taiwanese people invent their own flavor or style of macaron? Isn't it better if Taiwanese macaron differs from the French counterpart so that it can add to the diversity of the macaron family? Why do you presume that French people own the "authentic" style of macaron and people in other places of the world should imitate it or follow it, otherwise they are even not supposed to use the word "macaron"? How come? Don't you see that in Europe and America there are a lot of so-called Taiwanese restaurants that allegedly serve Taiwanese foods but end up providing nothing but a westernized version of everything that has little to do with the so-called "authentic" Taiwanese style? If some Taiwanese people happen to eat in those Westernized Taiwanese restaurants, do you think they should give that face of 好像吃了屎 and condemn the Westernized version of Taiwanese food on the spot and argue that -- WTF you are not entitled to calling yourself "Taiwanese"? Keep in mind, Guigui here and others called their macaron a "Taiwanese" macaron, they did not usurp the French macaron you are fetishizing. I think it is a more respectful gesture compared to many Western restaurants calling themselves simply Taiwanese restaurants but only serving Westernized Taiwanese foods. Stop your imperialistic manner and hope you have learned some good lessons from the colonial history of France.
I guess making a successful and real macaron is very difficult, that's why it's expensive. We just have to stop calling our dessert as "Taiwanese macaron" but making another name. Thus, when foreigners eat it, they will simply say "It looks like macaron, hmm, but it tastes different." That's all. If I tasted some 法式肉圓 overseas and it's completely different but not as good as the traditional one, I would also frown. I mean Taiwanese just like to name a lot of things with 臺式xx, just drop this habit. No help at all.
I agree. When people lack the local cultural knowledge and understanding they tend to react like Ku. I did not know about Taiwanese 'macaron' so did a background research on the origin of such local biscuit folk snack. It was called nuili 牛粒 when it was created, and maybe to gain back the lost popularity then om recent times someone decided to called it 'macaron' to add some French flair. The recipe and texture is rather different from the French macaron. I love an authentic French macaron so I ate it I would not call it macaron either. I think Ku's reaction is understandable if he really thinks this local snack was copying the French macaron. It would be better, like others mentioned, if we could just call it 牛粒, and the misconnection to the authentic French macaron would not lead to his distasteful look like a failed copycat macaron! Perhaps he is mainly doing that for showmanship style. His impressive upside-down twerking was funny but feels disrespectful of the graceful restaurant setting and rather a bit unfitting to the theme of the this show.

或許有人覺得這集的外國客人大多懂國語,不需用英語招待。不過,我相信英語招待是一份對客人的尊重,更是安全的考慮。始終客人的國語程度不一,單用國語對答,老屋團隊可能會越講越地道,客人未必聽得懂,有機會有安全隱患(如粿沒有用英文介紹,有客人把葉也吃了)。英語亦可與外國客人更好互動(如安妮與阿布英語調情玩笑,同桌起哄),型造愉快用餐氛圍。

對於馬卡龍這點,我能了解KU的想法,雖然他的表情讓人反感。
他已經說了那個甜點是個好的餅乾(?),但不是馬卡龍。我試著換位思考,如果我到法國,他們端出一道我的經典家鄉甜點,稱他為法式鳳梨酥,但只有型像,其他完全不一樣。我雖然會很高興法國人向台灣美食致敬,但可能也會覺得他們完全搞不懂鳳梨酥的精髓而失望。
再有,台式馬卡龍在我小時候叫牛粒,那時台灣的社會裡還沒有馬卡龍。根據維基(所以有可能是錯的),它是在日治時期從日本傳來的,原型為bouchée (我才發現我昨天意外地吃過,真的和牛粒很像)。
自馬卡龍在台灣流行起來,牛粒逐漸失去了自己的名字,被套上了與自己一點都不一樣的「馬卡龍」,好像不這樣就不受歡迎。我覺得先矮化本土產品的,是在國產產品前加上外國產品名稱行銷的人。失去了原創感,彷彿只是致敬或效仿。

每集都有人拿放大鏡各種角度挑毛病已經不意外了,但是連跟外國人講英語也要被罵到「矮化自己」「嘩眾取寵」的程度,實在有點離譜欸,是活在清朝嗎……😅
雖然我個人覺得這節目來賓的情況全程中文也OK,但我更不覺得講英語是什麼值得批判的事情。語言是交流的工具,不需要那麼過敏。
現在有些觀光夜市的小販都能講幾句外語招呼客人,有些餐廳也會提供多國語言菜單,以做生意的立場,多一種加分項不是很好嗎?
換位思考,假設你出國旅遊,雖然你會講一點當地語言,但是外國餐廳服務生特地為你用中文介紹菜單,大部分正常人應該是覺得「這服務不錯」或者「這家餐廳很歡迎外國客人」,而不是「這裡的人一定內心很自卑才會討好我泱泱大國」吧……
再假設外國也拍了一部餐廳節目,一群台灣人去當嘉賓,然後有服務生講台語,你們也會覺得那服務生是在假掰,或者那節目在給他們自己國家丟臉嗎??

檸檬--變軟好擠成汁

EP1から毎週深夜に観て楽しんでいます。今回は台湾在住歴の長い外国人のお客様のおもてなしがテーマで、興味深く鑑賞しました。鬼鬼が作った台式マカロンに対してフランス人が「これはマカロンではない!」と言っていた場面が、余りいい感じがしませんでした。「郷に入ったら郷に従え」の言葉通り、私が客ならその違いを楽しんで食べると思いますよ😉
