- The U.S. Space & Rocket Center museum in Huntsville Alabama launched at the Guinness Book of World Records on Tuesday July 16 2019. Simultaneously firing 4,923 of 5,000 rockets to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch 50 years ago.
5,000 model rockets were readied, 77 did not launch, a success rate of better than 98 percent.
The launch went off a couple of minutes after the scheduled launch at 8:32 a.m. , 50 years after the exact moment the Saturn V lifted from Cape Canaveral on July 16, 1969 to begin its journey to ferry the first men to the surface of the moon.
The event on grounds near the museum attracted a crowd of about 2,500 spectators - including hundreds of Space Camp students, Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden, Marshall Space Flight Center Director Jody Singer and Wernher von Braun’s daughter Margrit.
The previous Guinness World Record of 4,231 model rockets were launched at Teylingen College during a European Space Science Convention in the Netherlands, in summer 2018.
The true record nobody’s talking about is “Best Video That Never Lives Up To The Hype”.
Hahaha excellent comment 👊🏻💥👊🏻
I get more excitement out of opening a can of soda than this launch 🤣
That was way more boring than I was expecting
Ikr fireworks would be better than this!
@@chez1061 probably for safety
If they only get 20 ft in the air, is it still a rocket?
What the what???? Totally not what i expected.... total nothing burger 🍔
@@mandatethis8024 right 🥺 I would of went all out and sent 4,000 10,000 feet lmao
You complainers are all idiots.
@@rickyonovitz3214 you try doing it
a projectile thats being continuously propelled yea
2:00 for the lackluster launch.
If you could throw them higher does it still count as a rocket?
I had tears in my eyes and it wasn't from honor and traditions. It was the first time in my life i contemplated suicide after waiting 2 hours.
Jesus Christ
@@jokesonyou1253 no kidding 😮
Don’t do it, Jesus loves you and he always will.
Kim Jung un would be proud of you all ! .
Lol rocket guy
imagine the lag that must have created
Start at 2:00 your welcome....and to those in attendance enjoy you’re sulfur poisoning.
Most likely used low power 1/2A engines on purpose to keep the altitude extremely low so it was much easier and safer to collect the rockets later.
Never crossed my mind. Thanks. Now I feel like an asshole.
No chutes deployed so is it really a record?
Streamers did
Good point kevins brother
It deployed a streamer
I have to admit, I expected each rocket to fly into the sky over 1,000 feet and come back via parachute. That was not only anti-climatic, it sucked.
now imagine doing that with all those people around it
The real heroes are the ones that have to clean all of that up.
Somebody's got to clean all of that up though.
Kim jong un dreams:
1000000 bigmacs
Launching 4000+ rockets.
it's lmao
North Korea be like: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
They're breaking the 15 speed limit.
2:00 is what you came for
You can tell it was done by Boeing because they barely got off the ground and not a single one deployed the recovery successfully
That's it...where is this magical world where people are amused by a puff of smoke hahaha ill never get that time spent back
What did they use? Estes "A 1/4" engines? Pretty undramatic.
What a world record!
Best use of Gun Powder, ever! 🚀 🌠 🤩
Did the use 1/10A engines? I'll take all those parts however!
I use to build & fly these....this was LAME! I could have tossed them higher!
Woo-who, it broke the speed of fatulation !
Amazing
Holy cow dang look at that shit !!!! lmao
That was alot of rocket engines
Im surprised at how many people in the comments expected the rockets to go thousands of ft in the air. Model rocket does not equal high power rocket! Just like recovery mechanism does not mean parachute.
Yes put these went up 150 feet, these can go up 100 with spending the same amount of money.
@@ddogoo3749 ?
I'm really disappointed.
4923 service men excited to see Marilyn Monroe only to discover "she" was a man with a blonde wig.
very cool.
True art🎨
Why does this video feels back in the 80s-90s (remastered)
When you open a bottle of soda and it hisses as you crack the cap...
Super outstanding!!!...
I thought they were gonna go up and dance around like a Missle defense system. I was very disappointed
why not 5000?
they just should of used smokeless fuel , as could not see any fly within the 10 feet flight range,
That's all?
That’s it 50 feet high lol
So much for air quality
ya know if they had 1/2 a brain cell with those 4923 rockets they would have laid a large plastic tarp down for all the spent stages to land on.
Cool!
The cleaner:
I was there
congrats?
@@geometricart7851 it was at space camp
Did they give away the rockets?
big dramatic countdown... lots of rockets.. and then they shoot 20 feet in the air
Assinine
2:08
And they don't even have parachutes lol. Its like they were trying to make this as lame as possible, and then made it even lamer.
It seemed like a disappointment because they used an engine that would give very little height.
Really?
WTF! why? It's damn stupid... Sorry but why? 🤔😂
And real life didn't crash?!!!
from the SLS to the Starliner to the 737. Boeing can't even launch model rockets right!
klima model rockets ftw
AMERICA! FUCK YEAH! >:-O !
If The cuba missile crisis started
Jeez what a mess lol
Wow tht was mediocre
this was ridiculously dumb to do in the daytime...Just looks like a bunch a smoke "Yeah pretty cool" uh yeah buddy...what do you do in your off time besides watch smoke go up in the air?
These aren't fireworks. You wouldn't have seem much at night!
Well that was crap!! Why launch models if they are only going twenty feet?! That might as well have been crappy bottle rockets that go meeeeeeeeeeee.........pop.
This was exceptionally disappointing! With just _a little bit more effort_ it could've been fantastic. Slightly bigger rockets, flying on _at least_ a B motor, and recovery with damn parachutes! Yes, some would collide in flight, some would get tangled in recovery, but that would make it cool. Tumble/falling recovery was a _huge mistake_ that made this way too short and very _boring!_ FAIL! Big time!
the most anticlimactic thing ever
What a mess.
That's 2 minutes 30 wasted"
That is breaking the safety code
They didn’t really go high up
@@thebooboo3269 no but look at all that waste of rocket parts for what? Seeing a smoke trail go up 50 ft? Should have done it at night.
🤔
Americans really will get hyped up and cheer for any old shite
🙀
もうね (笑)
😴😴😴😴😴
Lol this is a joke
BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
