I have a question regarding Air dry clay and molds. In this video, you insert the clay into the molds and let it dry for 24h before demold them. However, I saw other artisans that don´t let the clay dry or let the clay dry only a few hours, and then glue it on the ornaments. Do you know why? In your opinion, what is the best procedure, let the clay dry before applying on the ornament or not (maybe both ways are correct and all depends on the resolt you want to achieve)? Thanks in advance for your time 😘
In this project, I leave the clay to dry for 24 hours only in a deep mold with a deer's face, the depth of this mold is almost 4 cm, so it will not be possible to get a high-quality cast if it is removed immediately. From other molds I take impressions immediately or after an hour, it depends on the depth of the mold.

Lovely! How long does the clay need to stay in the mold before removing?
If you are using a silicone mold with a depth of 3-5 mm, leave the clay in the mold to dry for about 15-30 minutes, then you can remove the impression from the mold. If your mold is more than 5 mm deep, leave the clay in the mold to dry for 1-2 hours and more, then you can remove the impression from the mold.
