If you don't already know, there is a mini "four movement" rock concerto included on ELO's 1977 'Out of the Blue' double album. It sits on Side Three and is subtitled 'Concerto for a Rainy Day'. The four tracks making up this mini 'Concerto' are: Standin' in the Rain; Big Wheels; Summer and Lightning; Mr Blue Sky. You would probably find it here on RUclips without much searching.
This would make an awesome title-sequence track for a quirky bitter-sweet drama, with a character like Saul Goodman from "Better Call Saul" or even Jess from "Jessica Jones". It has an air of vaguely desperate faded Americana, a downbeat inevitability that the bright lights and sunshine just can't conquer. I love this track for being so atmospheric!
+Francesco D Calvano Very much agree. Couldn't have described it better - "air of vaguely desperate faded Americana"... which is a grungy daily reality for SO many people.
+modernknightone Thanks! And I agree, sadly it seems so. :-( The US now seems to be like the UK was in the 1970s' (without the strikes, though) - that feeling that the glory days as a country of dreams, wealth and optimism) have faded away, leaving only reminders of the good times and classic imagery in its wake. Maybe it'll then happen to China too after its had its day in the sun, decades from now.
Her little girl died, the hospital monitor had flatlined, then she took her out of the hospital, in the car was a Native American Hoop of Life hanging from the rear view mirror, she was in a gambling town, she held on to the hope of a miracle.......
No puedo evitar llorar cada vez que escucho y veo este video... La melodía es tan hermosa y triste a la vez, bueno la perfecta melancolía característica de las creaciones del gran Jeff... Una verdadera belleza...
think of songs such as 'poker', anything on 'on the third day'....then think of chord structures...even the .face the music' album beginning ,,,,,,nice one jeff x
Hah! When I was young, my mom and I stayed at both the Lucky Motel and the Ho Hum Motel, both are in Reno near downtown. Can't say I remember much about Lucky Motel, I was pretty sick at the time.
For the people who do not know, this is a modest mouse music video. Yeah, I guess someone would've already written it down, but just lettin' ye know---
Not sure I completely understand the vid. Why did she take her child to the hotel. Was it that she couldn't allow it to end that way in a hospital? Was it because she refused to accept the reality of it? So is she mental at this point or just wanting to have some alone time with her child that she knows she will never have again? What a trip. Never seen anything quite like this before.
+modernknightone Yes, actually the more I watch this video, the more deeply dark and depressing it is. Pretty heavy subject matter, with a conundrum thrown in as well, just to unsettle some more. Maybe, this being ELO and all, there is meant to be "no answer" to why, anyway.
+Francesco D Calvano True that. When people ask why....there are often no answers. That is uncomfortable for people that want boundaries and black and white explanations to life's conundrums. ELO is one of those super groups where grey matter was always involved in what they were doing and so you may well be right.
+modernknightone My take on the video is that modern medicine couldn't save her child, so she's pulling a Hail Mary by taking him to the Lucky Motel. Maybe some past experience there makes it lucky? Maybe it's the painting over the bed? A sad tale of desperation.
Unique........Jeff never fails us with his music....
Vibrant and haunting all at once, just like the best from the maestro. Wouldn't it be brilliant to hear a four movement Jeff Lynne rock symphony.

The video makes this song even more beautiful, another wee belter like point of no return that not everyone knows x
That was the most emotional video I have seen in a long time

First time hearing this. I love it.
Another Jeff Lynne haunter.
ELOdiscovery com news says: "This track features on the Japanese reissue of the album "Zoom" by ELO.
Jeff Lynne: ukulele, percussion, guitar, bass."
I love this track, but why do I cry when I hear it? Anybody else have that happen?
Relax, that's only completely natural, honey. It's Jeff Lynne. He communicates feelings and moods through his music.

No one said it's an official channel. Where did you read that?
Tan hermosa y emotiva como todo lo que viene de Jeff Lynne.
Enorme Maestro.

Thank you. I've been looking all over for this!
Oh my God, this is GREAT!! Please tell me that it's been around for a while and that it's George Harrison playing ukulele.
George supported Jeff from the heavenly skies above, when he (Jeff) recorded the tune.

this video is better than the song!
To be honest, this track does not sound like anything special. Why was it released?
i don't mind saying it, but this video kinda creeps me out.
