    I have one in the box, Du-Bro wheels, 1.75 front, and 2.25 rear ordered, and only other thing that needs modification is the lights, and whether they are flashing or solid. It's hard to imagine what FMS was thinking when they blinked the nav lights, and kept the "strobe lights" on solid on the wings. I owned N2597Q, a 182K model for 3 decades, and the white light on the trailing fuse is on solid, and the red "rotating beacon" on top of the tail should blink. The 182 is a great airplane, never gave me any real trouble in 2000 hours of flying barring a broken vacuum pump while FVR on top. But that's another story.

      Thanks for sharing your experience with the BIG version... The lights are a bit goofy. Not sure why FMS and others just can't get it right. This one flies outstanding. Its a keep for sure.

      Just tried to replace the tires with Du-Bro's. Got the front tire size wrong. 2.00 is the correct size. However, when spinning the stock nose wheel, it spins quietly and smoothly, so I will use the stock nose wheel. The mains actual size is between 2.25. and 2.5, so the 225T DuBro's will work fine. I had to use a washer on the inside to keep the DuBro from rubbing the wheel pant, and trim the outside wheel pant where the axle is captivated because the Dubro is a little wider than the stock. This allows the wheel to turn smoothly and quietly. The axle is all thread, so a little cured thin CA on the threads gave it a little better bearing surface. Now it's super smooth and quite. Tire will spin for several seconds with a good spin.

    Great improvements on this. Love the assembly refinements, electrical connectors, etc. I see they still have the noisy wheels like the 1400mm version. I greased my wheels on the old 182 and they are great now, I couldn't stand it sounding like a "toy" with squeaky wheels.

    Regarding the big Fox gliders you mentioned: I really hope FMS did a better job on this Cessna than it did on them. Mine crashed on the maiden flight because of the way the elev-servo assembly was built, w/ a floppy long rod that couldn't stand the aerodynamic forces at the exit of loop, eventually making the elev 100% ineffective.That concept of using plastic parts inserted and glued to the foam also isn't good in the long term. The easily come off and cannot secure parts in place if you fly in turbulent conditions. The good about them is that they're made of EPO, which makes them immortal: Afther the most severe crash, just make sure you collected all pieces, dive them into boiling water and... PRESTO! They get back the their original shape just like Terminator's T-1000.

    Excellent presentation ! I loved how scale and gentle she seemed to fly. The behavior on floats really looked good. It seemed to be able to lift off the water much easier than your little Ranger.
    Speaking of the Ranger - I don't remember the details - but it seems there was an optimum placement of the step of the floats in relation to the overall CG. And in that regard, I was thinking that maybe the Ranger floats could do better if they were placed slightly farther forward overall. Just looking at your Cessna, it's stance sitting on the water seemed a bit tail low. ( Which I think is a bit more correct - and a good thing. ) The Ranger in comparison seemed to sit more forward or level while just sitting there. I think one aspect of the Cessna's arrangement is that the step is a bit more forward - and that once it is running along the water - it is easier for your up elevator to cause the plane to pivot (on the step) easier - get some positive incidence - and fly off. I hope you have good luck to figure it out with the Ranger. Thanks for another great video !

    I'm VERY new to RC flying (no plane yet, just RealFlight Simulator Training). For my eventual 1st plane I'm thinking either the FMS 1220mm Ranger EP V2 With Reflex V3 RTF of the FMS 1300mm PA-18 Super Cub with Reflex V3 RTF. My plane of choice when I'm feeling good about staying with it is the FMS Cessna 182 1.5m. Beautiful plane but I'm seeing that it is a lot of plane for a newb. What is your opinion of the Ranger versus the Super Cub for a first time flyer/buyer. Very helpful videos. Keep them coming!

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  11 дней назад

      Jim, Glad you are spending time on the Sim. It will certainly help you when you hit the flying field.. The Ranger is my go to plane for teaching new pilots. Primarily due to its slow flight characteristics and durable front landing gear. If you are flying off pavement or hard surface the ranger is the way to go. If you are flying from rough grass, then Super Cub is a good option. Biggest different is ground handling with a taildragger adds another level of skill.. This Cessna is a wonderful plane and flies great. But I think the Ranger is more forgiving to fly. The FMS RTF system are good, but the TX's aren't very good. You can't dial down the rates or even have a thottle cut. But with the new Refelx V3, you'll be able to dial down the rates. (Still no expo)... If you think you're going to grow in this hobby, I'd invest in a more capable TX... I have FrSky Taranis and Spektrum NX8.. Both great systems...

    Hello Steffen,
    Great review, as usual! The plane is so beautiful and scaled (in my opinion), but why the heck did FMS put those flashing navigating lights and solid strobe lights?! We know, It should be vice versa. I haven't purchased my FMS 1500mm Cessna yet, but I was wondering if all of the wing lights are connected separately, so I could install a switch for the landing light, to start glowing when landing flaps are deployed (as I did on my FMS Sky Trainer). My other question is if the wingtip lights (nav and strobe) have some driver (like BJT transistor) to make them flash or if they are blinking LEDs by default? Because if they blink by default I'd like to change them with solid light LEDs (red and green) and to change the solid strobe lights with blinking ones. I'll be very grateful if you have time and will to check that, so I'll know what could be done and what will stay as it is.
    Again, thank you for this comprehensive review!
    Regards, Emo

    • @SteffenRC
      @SteffenRC  4 месяца назад

      Thanks.. Yes, you can make the nav lights static. But they are colored LED and I don't think I can change color. The other option is to move the Nav lights to the tips and move the tip lights to the landing light location... But getting them to switch on with flaps could require some re-wiring.. Isn't impossible and it might be worth the effort. I'm seriously thinking about it..

    • @emiliyanmartinov
      @emiliyanmartinov 4 месяца назад

      @@SteffenRC thank you for your reply! Just to make things clear for me - One can make the nav lights solid by changing them or re-wiring?

      Dan, this plane isn't sold as a Ready to fly (RTF). This is a plug and play (PnP). So, you'll need to include the Transmitter, Receiver, battery and charger. That said, you can get those items at low cost (or spend a ton) depending on your wallet... I fly two different radio systems, Spektrum ($200-$400)and FrSKY (same). Both are good and offer affordable options. SMCRacing has quality Lipo batteries ($15-$20). Chargers range in cheap to holy cow in price ($40-$200)...
