I'm glad you mentioned Hard Drivin' because that's the only other arcade racer I ever thought was comparable to RUSH. That game was so sim that it had a freaking KEY to crank the car. RUSH is a really special case with layers of depth you didn't really expect from an ARCADE racer. I really wish more modern games would take inspiration from games like RUSH, Beetle Adventure Racing, SplitSecond and just make really fun, multipath racing games that focus more on the exploration of the track and less about the two extremes we tend to get now. 1) Sim racers with a focus on licensed cars and real locations 2) Scripted rollercoaster ride racers with all flash and no substance like Crusin' Blast where you just hold down the gas and let it happen. They're all fun, but I really feel like the RUSH style needs a lot more love.
I remember that key and thought it was pretty cool they had that. I remember the big dedicated cab where you sat in the seat and almost got pulled into the “car” style cabinet. I sucked so much as the game but thought it was interesting. I fully agree about the games now. You really nailed the roller coaster style new games. I don’t know if it’s laziness or just them not being able to risk putting a game out that won’t appeal to a mass audience but it’s sad to see.
Thanks! This was my second real arcade purchase. I’m really glad I bought it. We found it cheap with a dead monitor, I had to drive 3 hours for it but it was worth it in the end.
San Francisco Rush might be my all time favourite video game. Not just driving, but in general. I still come back to it regularly (On N64) and when i show it to new people they are always amazed on the game even after almost 30 years
You pretty much got me in the arcade Rush The Rock game! This may sound terrible. But my first experience was the PlayStation version. And that port is pretty much an entirely different game altogether. lol It's pretty cool with the secrets the arcade game has and such. If I could at least get rumble to work decent with the steering wheel on my PC modded Arcade1up Ridge Racer. It would be more fun to play. I'll have to try it on the N64 as well. Cool video man!
The design on the cab looks awesome I love it! The neon green really on point. I also love seeing you play Rush, if I was your neighbor I'd love to come over and play arcade games with you. 🤓🙌🎮🕹️ Cool video as always brother!
I love seeing you play Rush, it's an arcade machine that you just don't see here in the UK but it's one on my must play list when I see it! I should be coming to Texas this year so I'll have to swing by some arcades during my visit
The Dallas/Fort Worth area is your best bet. I plan to make a video on how many arcades there are in that area. It’s a huge metroplex but I can name around 8 good sized arcades in the area off the top of my head. There’s probably more too.
I love this game so much. Played quite a bit back in the day on arcades and N64. These days I revist it from time to time using Mame and a steering wheel with FFB mod. It's so hard though.. I could never get consistently good at it. It feels like half of my performance is out of my control lol.
I have tried it with the FFB mod, it was pretty good but always felt a little off from the arcade feedback. The game can be difficult. I’d start with the easy car to get a feel for it and then work your way up to the more difficult cars.
@KillerArcadeGames Technically, the FFB mod access the game data regarding the force feedback. It should be pretty authentic. But emulation still emulation. In arcades, the feedback of Rush was the strongest of all arcade racings out there.
I loved the standing racing game cabinets, the one you chase a car and destroy it was my favorite, if I’m not mistaken there was a police light on top of it
Hmm it might be loading that too which may cause it. I've noticed most hard/fast turns create slow down. The turn on track three at 23:01 usually drops some frames when more cars are around.
I first played Rush the Rock on Midway Arcade Treasures 3. At first glance, it seems like a faithful port, but they didn’t adapt the controls to work with a DualShock 2 and the audio has been royally screwed over. Certainly better than the PS1 version, but not exactly the most faithful port. OG arcade is still the best.
The MAT3 isn't actually a port, it's a full rebuild of the game and the physics and several other things are not arcade accurate. I was so disappointed. I bought that the day it came out to play all of these games and found several weren't the actual arcade version. Hydro Thunder is the same, it's the Dreamcast version.
@ Really? It was a full rebuild of the game? Maybe it tricked my 9-year-old self but it certainly looked like the OG arcade version, but MAT3 isn’t really the best compilation looking back at it.
There is a pincushion effect on my monitor. It’s not supposed to be like that but we couldn’t seem to fix it. The middle of the screen in pinched inward and the top and bottom is stretched out a little. I’ll either replace the chassis or maybe find someone to repair it.
Does the clutch pedal works for the simulation level cars? Because its make sense, with easier cars, dont need the cluctch pedal to shift gears, but in a simulation, you need (Correct me if im wrong)
It works on all cars but none actually require you to use it. You can shift without it but I do feel like using the clutch gives you a better shift and faster times.
Can you just replace the thermal paste between the chips and heatsink on that motor feedback board? The thermal paste is probably just dried out and not doing its job effectively
That might help but from what I read from others with the same issue, they just replace those chips which are fairly cheap and readily available. I've never actually pulled out that board but have shot a temp gun at them and they do get above 140F then the board's lights shut off and the feedback stops for about 5 seconds and it comes back on. It cools down pretty quickly but also can heat up quickly.
@KillerArcadeGames Gotcha. If the heat sink is not getting near as hot probably is just the paste. That's a good indication its not transferring the heat to the sink. I don't know how hard it is to change the chips. Great video by the way, love your content

Great video. !! You are so lucky to have the actual arcade version !! Awesome racer !!!!

I'm stunned it never got a comeback. Forza Horizon's Hot Wheels DLC felt a little Rush inspired but nothing has really been as good.
You really gave an underrated classic the appreciation it deserves. Keep sharing your good contents! 💯
Thanks RoseAnne!
@@KillerArcadeGames You're welcome! looking forward for more good contents this 2025 🙌

The ps1 version is so weirdly different! I did like the 64 version, before I had my arcade id just play that on my laptop lol.
I love the design on the cab as well.
The neon green really sticks out.
It does. I could always spot it from a far.

Thanks Willie! Too bad there isn't a neighbor like myself who just wants to play arcade games lol.
Another super cool video. Congratulations!
Thanks Anderson! I hope people go watch your insanely fast speed runs!

I think the police light game was Chase HQ
Sadly I've never played it , but i liked playing Cruising USA back in the day and Daytona.
Keep an eye out for it if you visit arcades. Its well worth trying and I think underrated.
39:00 Wasn't the main reason for the frame drop here because of the secret stunt area underneath that hill?
Hmm it might be loading that too which may cause it. I've noticed most hard/fast turns create slow down. The turn on track three at 23:01 usually drops some frames when more cars are around.

Is the screen cut off a bit in game, or is that just the angle of the camera? Classic game, played 2049 quite a bit.
