From the outside, this Metro looks fine, I'd gladly buy one for £1 and keep it in my garden or refurbish a carriage and turn it into a unique holiday let.
One of the workers from nexus told my entire school that if the trains turn older than 43 years of age it will have to get rid off and I’m still wondering why northern trains haven’t been scrapped yet because they are older than 44
I notice the replacement 555 has been geared for more standing less seating because you know people love to stand 😂. (It is harder to discourage sitting anyway). I'll miss the forward view too😢
The 555s only have a few less seats per train than the 599s, which combined with Nexus' desire to run a 10-minute service on both routes when the full fleet is in service will actually see an increase in the number of seats per hour compared to now! It's a shame there are not one or two areas with forward/backwards facing seats though, as not everyone wants to be sat sideways.
@@jonathanhalewood5902 10 mins is terrible for a Metro service. Should be under 5 before they can even call themselves a Metro. In Copenhagen my average wait for a train was more like 30 seconds.
@@MarkHewitt1978 10 mins is the anticipated minimum outside of the core. Additional peak services will boost this, and in the core, it will stack to give a train at least every 5 minutes. For an area the size of Tyne and Wear that is quite respectable.
Some of the units will cost too much money to repair, so are being withdrawn and stripped for parts to re-activate other units, once all parts are gone, the metrocar is scrapped
The worst of the metro trains (the ones which will cost the most to repair) are withdrawn and are stripped are parts to use to fix other trains. Once all the parts are removed, the train is sent to scrap, which helps Nexus gain extra money to help get the new trains into service.
4001 is heading to the North Tyneside Steam Railway ad 4020 is going to Beamish. There have been frequent scrap movements recently, as 4088 ad 4070 were scrapped last week. The next one is apparently in July
They attach two working units to actually move the broken one. They are later uncoupled and sent back to gosforth depot. It's only 4077 which left for scrap.
I did I full route Time-lapse of the green line From Airport to South Hylton Which the metrocars were 4071 & 4073 Fun fact about 4071, I was heading to South Hylton and it had broken announcements which weren't on and has an old bell and now is my favourite Class 599 Until it goes Now moving onto a fun fact of 4073, which on the return journey, it had female announcements Notice what's missing? It's 4072 that's missing
Quite a shame if the announcers didn't work if 4073 was the leading unit. 4073 and 4081 are the last two female announcer units and if they are the leading car then the announcements on the trailing car will be female. It works in the opposite way around too, if a male announcer is leading then all announcements on that train will be male. Ah with 4072, it's been in the shed at Gosforth depot for a while hopefully being repaired. There's a couple which have different bells to the rest of the fleet: 4078, 4071, 4050, 4045, 4044, 4042 (stored at gosforth), 4039, 4031, 4021, 4002 (scrapped), 4001 (withdrawn.)
@@TWMfan The original female announcer was Mrs Stapely who also did the ones for TfL amongst others. I can't recall how many words and cadences she had to record for Nexus but it was several thousand.

There are a couple I've seen in service for a while: 4035, 4065, 4003, 4068, 4075
