  • So, you want to start adding cool interactions to your projects, but maybe you're intimidated by coding or blueprints? Well, have no fear, I break down the essential principles to know in this video. This is a part one, because there are some essential things you really should know and understand. Part two is also ready to be released, but I'm going to wait to see how this one does first. Make sure to like and subscribe to let me know that you're interested in the next part. But first, check this one out and start learning the basics of blueprints in Unreal Engine 5. I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is, regardless of experience, to set up some basic interactions. Oh, and by the way, it is also SUPER fun! Enjoy!

    VIDEO SUMMARY
In this video tutorial I will go over what I believe to be the essential principles for getting started with blueprints in Unreal Engine 5. To make things interactive, we need to be able to communicate with the objects in our scene, and we will look at several different ways to do that. Then, once we have a line of communication, we can give them a bit of code to do. It is all very user friendly with the blueprint system, but blueprints are also very powerful. Don't be intimidated, though! I taught myself how to blueprint, and I know you can too. We will talk about the level blueprint, and using it to communicate with objects in the level. We will also talk about using blueprint actors with public variables in order to tell our objects what to do. Once you learn these basic things, you'll have tons of fun making your scenes interactive. Oh, we will also discuss some basic coding principles as well, mostly variables and flow control stuff as it applies.

This was so helpful! Blueprint videos are very broad. To have archviz as the intention is very helpful! Thank you.

      Hmmm...weird! Try this link:

I'm not sure of any reason why that wouldn't work. BTW, this lecture and the next one are both in that course already, and of course I am still working on a bunch of other lectures regarding interaction (to be uploaded in the next couple months)

Hey man, I'm looking to start learning some arch vis. I have Graphic design experience and construction experience. Could you recommend the best starting path for someone looking to start with no experience in 2024?

First step is definitely to learn some modeling software. SketchUp is probably the most basic and easy to learn, but if you start there, I would eventually graduate to something more powerful/complex. 3ds Max is the industry standard. Not to promote myself, but I have classes designed for people just like you. I always recommend the basic 3ds Max course for people with no experience, then have them jump to the archviz specific course, which uses 3ds Max + Vray. This is still the standard for really high end imagery, but lots of people use other combos too, depending on what needs are. For a simple combo to get started with easy to learn software, you could do SketchUp + Twinmotion or D5. I have an "insiders guide" to the industry, and all my courses/resources here: www.learnarchviz.com/courses-landing-page

To me there is little difference in using blue prints VS coding as for both you need an understanding to access, change and update components, variables etc. but where blueprints like most node based systems (material systems, C4D expresso, Blender geo nodes etc.) shine is that they allow for a user to get a quick visual overview of what is happening and where to find what if you follow a proper structure and add some notes. Especially to me as a mostly visual designer this way of programming feels more accessible.

Do you have any advice on error message in Unreal Engine "Video Memory Exhausted"? I have an RTX3070

It's a VRAM issue, but I don't know much else about it. It seems to happen when I get crazy with the amount of stuff I have open, and then try to record my screen as well.
