YES my personal favourite episode. I remember watching this on a plane for the first time and I was crying in laughter. one of the nearby passengers looked at what i was laughing at and smiled almost like he thought oh yeah of course that makes sense
John Cleese admitted that making this series nearly killed him. A lot of the filming was done in one continuous take. There's been nothing like it since. Classic.
@@AfterWorkReactions yeah, all that running around and going crazy plus he also wrote it with his wife Connie Boothe (Polly the waitress) He was a fit man back then. But I guess 12 episodes were enough.
The Major saying "He doesn't look quite the ticket" and " They attract the flies,y'know" are a couple of my favourite lines. And, for my two bobs worth, the Psychiatrist is my favourite episode.
I saw the psychiatrist when it was first broadcast, my mum was training to be a psychiatrist. When the male doctor says to the female doctor, "there's enough material here for an entire conference", my dear mum couldn't breathe for laughing, neither could I.
Hi mate, nearly fell off my chair laughing at this when Polly hits the olg lady, I havent seen this for a few years, always funny when watching, plus you laughing aswell, really great stuff !!!!!
Basil is pompous and reactionary but I do feel for him and see his desperation. Sybil does very little and berates him for his being overworked yet doesn't step-in. If I had his frustrations and responsibilities I'd probably be a bit 'Basil' myself!
Not long after Fawlty Towers ended, John Cleese made a film where he plays a very Basil like character. The film is called , Clockwise. A hugely underrated film. I’ve seen it twice , once when young and once quite recently. Even though some elements are a bit dated it actually on the whole ages well. I recommend.
"...el perro microscópico..." LOL!! Plus I love how the "stunt" Miss Tibbs is really a man wearing a wig and the same outfit as Miss Tibbs. LOL! It's also amazing that Mr. Leeman didn't laugh while he was being dragged around on-set. LOL!
American comedian Greg Proops said he didn’t understand Fawlty Towers until he lived in England and realised how true to life it was. My parents were basically Basil and Sybil so it hits home for me quite a lot!!
Amazing that John Cleese and Connie Booth (Polly) were married when they created Fawlty Towers together, separated during filming, and hated each other by the end, especially with both series being made 4 years apart.
Dr Price is Geoffrey Palmer - one of Britain's national treasures. Best known for his role in Butterflies with Wendy Craig and Nicholas Lyndhurst and of course in As Time Goes By with Dame Judie Dench
There are some classic lines in this episode like “This is not the Burma Railway” , “The Fawlty Towers Book of remembrance”. “2 down - twenty to go” “would you like Mohogany, teak?” “That’s the Ticket” and “I thought you meant linnen” ( as opposed to Limen, the name of the dead guest) , “Perro Microscopio” (meaning tiny dog) and so on. A true classic like all the other episodes although my favorite line of all is “I Know Nothing” spoken by Manuel from “Communication Problems.”
I remember this episode, I can't imagine how thing's could get any worse after it finished. I honestly thought he would've got at least 6 lawsuits filed against him😂
This episode and "Basil the Rat" are the most slapstick funny of the series, in my opinion. The actor playing the doctor is Geoffrey Palmer and he and Judi Dench star in a consistently excellent show titled "As Time Goes By" and I highly recommend it to you simply for your own personal enjoyment. Palmer plays things very brusque in this episode but his character in the other show is wonderfully fleshed out. I watch the entire show's run every year it's so good. I also agree with you on the Waldorf Salad episode. There is something a bit off about the actor's portrayal as the American. I would guess the British have the same feeling whenever they see an American actor doing a very stereotypical and not-quite-right British character portrayal.
And just as an aside, my favorite line of the entire show is from The Builders (I think S1 E2) where the builder keeps prefacing, "If the good Lord..." and Fawlty continues it, "...is mentioned one more time, I will move you closer to Him." Such excellent writing.
The American was a pretty stereotypical caricature that is probably more funny to Brits than actual genuine Americans so I can see why "Waldorf Salad" might have given you that reaction.
'Bottom' has stood the test of time moreso than this for USA viewers like yourself. It is brilliant. That and 'Red Dwarf' and perhaps the brilliance of 'Blackadder' would be a suggestion to USA viewers who don't always get British comedy.
I think the problem with the American in the last episode was he was your stereotypical in you face, loud, obnoxious American. They cast it for the average British audience.
I'm guessing that , this viewing restriction, was imposed on you because of some copywrite issue. It reminds me of TV broadcasts when I was a kid, with 405 lines , ( per inch, was it?) Still, it's better than those tiny boxes of images you had, before.
The humour lies a lot in the structure of the episodes. They are all very finely and rigorously structured. And Fawlty's frustrations and behaviours and lines. It's definitely not about "who do I like" or something like that. They are all ambivalent to some degree or other and rather cookie-cutter characters (the guests).
Ridiculous episode. Here's a redux. *guest dies* Basil calls 999/relevant parties: Hello, a guest has died in our hotel. *he then informs any friends or dependents of the deceased, secures the room. Informs new arrivals that they might be a delay, or a cancellation due to the occurrence* Sybil ensures his belongings are neatly sorted. Once removed. Manuel and Polly perform a deep cleanse of the room. The end.
@@letsbelogicalaboutthis2349 Better than an episode dragging a dead body all over a hotel full of guests, and hiding it in a laundry basket. Just cook that guy some sausages, ffs.
These shows are 45 years old, I’ve watched countless times, still very fresh
You gotta admire the guy playing the corpse....he did it brilliantly.
yeah---he's a dead ringer for another actor, can't name him either
It is easy for an actor make people laugh when he is corpsing the whole time.
He wasn't acting, apparently they had to kill him so they could have a corpse
“Two dead, twenty five to go”
😂😆
The Late Great Geoffrey Palmer playing the doctor who wants his sausages… they don’t have casts like that these days.
- and they can't write scripts like this either, family entertainment with no filth
YES my personal favourite episode. I remember watching this on a plane for the first time and I was crying in laughter. one of the nearby passengers looked at what i was laughing at and smiled almost like he thought oh yeah of course that makes sense
yes, and "basil the rat" and the "German" one for me!
"I'm a doctor, and I want my sausages"
I don't know why, but that quote just sticks with everybody. R.I.P. Geoffrey Palmer, a wonderfully understated actor with great comic abilities.
Love how in the end he gives up and makes them himself
@@diogenesagogo Love his dry, dry humor!!!
Seen all of fawlty towers so many times but somehow you just made this even funnier, great reaction video.
Glad you enjoyed!
I know of no other sitcom that generates as many belly laughs as this one.
It is a great show I am enjoying it alot!
I liked In Sickness and in Health, banned now from the tv
This brings back memories. Can’t believe how old these are
If you were born in 1935, they're not old. If you were born in 1985, they are.
Lighty buttered kipper I can't breathe
Probably already said, but Mr. Leeman is an actual codename in real hotels for a corpse in a room. And the poke in the eye never gets old.
Is that BECAUSE of this show, or is it an old tradition like "Mr. Sands is in the building" being code for a fire in live theater?
John Cleese admitted that making this series nearly killed him. A lot of the filming was done in one continuous take.
There's been nothing like it since.
Classic.
I would image that seems like hard work!

Another one Fawlty, shot was he.

Thank you, Josh, for all these reaction videos. You laughing calms me right down, mellows me out, at times of high stress.
This is one of the classic episodes, so good
Hi mate, nearly fell off my chair laughing at this when Polly hits the olg lady, I havent seen this for a few years, always funny when watching, plus you laughing aswell, really great stuff !!!!!
LOL that was a great scene. Thanks bud glad you enjoyed!
Manuel threatening to quit and go on strike is my favourite part!
It’s like “weekend at Bernie’s!”
Basil is pompous and reactionary but I do feel for him and see his desperation. Sybil does very little and berates him for his being overworked yet doesn't step-in. If I had his frustrations and responsibilities I'd probably be a bit 'Basil' myself!
I agree he is so stressed in every episode.
All day long Sybil does f**k all, she's supposedly "good with customers"
Not long after Fawlty Towers ended, John Cleese made a film where he plays a very Basil like character. The film is called , Clockwise. A hugely underrated film. I’ve seen it twice , once when young and once quite recently. Even though some elements are a bit dated it actually on the whole ages well. I recommend.
The incredible Joan Hickson, lived in a cottage near me in Wivenhoe, Essex
Ah the wonderful Joan Hickson. She did the impossible and made Miss Marple her own. Brilliant performance in Clockwise.
LOL!
I'd say that the next ep, The Anniversary, is the weakest of FT. However, it's still better than the best ep of most sitcoms.
agree
I used to think the anniversary was the weakest. Now its one of my favourites
The Anniversary is John Cleese's personal favourite.
American comedian Greg Proops said he didn’t understand Fawlty Towers until he lived in England and realised how true to life it was. My parents were basically Basil and Sybil so it hits home for me quite a lot!!
Amazing that John Cleese and Connie Booth (Polly) were married when they created Fawlty Towers together, separated during filming, and hated each other by the end, especially with both series being made 4 years apart.
from what i've seen from them in interviews they never hated each. they continued and still have a great deal of care and respect for each other
Other British comedy of around the same era...
The Good Life
Citizen Smith
Butterflies (stars a young Rodney from OFAH)
Dr Price is Geoffrey Palmer - one of Britain's national treasures. Best known for his role in Butterflies with Wendy Craig and Nicholas Lyndhurst and of course in As Time Goes By with Dame Judie Dench
The next episode is hilarious,, ‘the anniversary’ … can’t wait for you to watch that
Thanks bud looking forward to it!
Everyone has those days where things go from bad to worse to impossible 😂
There are some classic lines in this episode like “This is not the Burma Railway” , “The Fawlty Towers Book of remembrance”. “2 down - twenty to go” “would you like Mohogany, teak?” “That’s the Ticket” and “I thought you meant linnen” ( as opposed to Limen, the name of the dead guest) ,

This sitcom never stops being funny.
It is a great show!
Rigamarole. I like it when you use that word!
LOL thanks =]

I honestly thought he would've got at least 6 lawsuits filed against him😂
this is my fave episode by far, 'the kippers, the kippers!'
The way John cleese runs around just doubles me up with laughing I miss the old comedies. They were the best ,
LOL he is a maniac I love it!
2:27 saucer
4:40 bowl
That bitch.
Love how Sybil keeps shouting for Basil at the end. :D
Classic comedy and some very clever references. 🤣
Every time I see this episode I start craving kippers.

This episode and "Basil the Rat" are the most slapstick funny of the series, in my opinion.

He is a Canadian actor. It's John cleese friend in real life.
every time i watch them ,the visual humour is the thing to watch ,as the dialogue sometimes distracts from the brilliance of it
The American was a pretty stereotypical caricature that is probably more funny to Brits than actual genuine Americans so I can see why "Waldorf Salad" might have given you that reaction.
Wooooo thanks josh
Thanks bud!
I was probably the only person in the world to have a crush on Sybil. The really weird thing though, is I was only a teenager lol
I agree the Waldorf salad is my least favourite episode. its a close call which is the best this or Basil the Rat

John Cleese is so, so perfect in Fawlty Towers.

Hey Josh will you be continuing with the rockbusters compilation? :) Feels like it's been months since the last one.
I never understood why they couldn't just put the body in Manuel's room xD
It wouldn't be funny....
👌😂😂❤🇬🇧
Another one Fawlty?
No the same one Major.
Alright.
The Major is like the British Joe Biden.
Oh, grow up!
Unfortunately the picture is really bad this time...I hope you can do something about it,its barely possible to stand...
