Ordered the same bike a few days ago because why the heck not for the price? I bought a beat up se big ripper for cheap but it needs alot of love like new grips, tires, brakes, chain, freewheel, cleaned up/re-greased and rims re-trued. I bought it with the intentions ons fixing it up with nice aftermarket parts but in the mean time i figured id try out the thruster. I couldnt find a whole lot online about them so its good to see someone reviewing it. When i receive it and give it a ride, I'll be back to share my experience!
awesome bro, i appreciate it and please do. yeah, quite honestly , unless you build the entire bike piece by piece, there will always be something to change out. i might go with a different set of bars just for an inch or 2 more on the rise, but that would be the only change
I purchased this exact bike for my son. It is NOT a bad bike. What we are using it for is a project bike for us to work on together. We looked online and there are so many websites with good discount bmx parts. We have slowly been swapping parts and it is definitely transforming into a custom BMX for him. So far we changed the Handle Bars to the largest S&M 4 piece bars, a division stem , changed the grips to grey, completely swapped out the brake system to BOX brand, and added a ride out supply freewheel. It is looking and sounding great. So far so good. I was definitely on the fence about this bike , but it is worth it. I highly recommend 👌
That's awesome and definitely a great platform to learn and customize your bike. I wouldn't even consider this a walmart bike, since it's not sold in stores. Too bad you can't post a pic of it, I'm sure it looks really cool. I might swap out my bars as well. I need a little more height. But you're gonna swap parts on any bike, no matter how much you spend, unless you build it from the ground up. Congrats
Just picked up mine. Stock brakes were mushy and lacked stopping power. Swapped the brake pads and ran full length brake housing and brakes are solid now. Swapped the seat to a larger one. Headset was too tight and crank bolts were loose. I had to true the wheels as well. Once all that was adjusted I threw on some Thickslicks. The bike rides like a dream. The bottom bracket is so smooth and quiet. Definitely needs some setup out of the box but well worth it. It really doesn't need any upgrades but the brakes are a must.
I bought this bike because of your review. I’m glad I did even though it’s a Walmart bike it’s very high-quality people complementing all the time and it’s super smooth and fun to ride. Only problem I’ve had is one flat tire due to a goat head but other than that, the bike is flawless mechanically.
@josephgmann3878 that's awesome. Yeah bro, I know the die hard SE guys degrade just about every other brand. But you would be hard pressed to find any bike that couldn't use some upgrade if you so desired, no matter how much you spend. Is it still available for $210
@@jeffsheppard_actor it’s not available any longer for the 210 price I got mine for around 280 after tax, but it was worth every penny. I actually just watched a review from another gentleman talking about the differences between the SE OM Duro And the thruster retrograde. Now I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on the retrograde to see how it is. I’ll also definitely be checking out your next bike build. Thanks again for the content, brother.

@huffffy247 maybe 7, not 100% sure, the bar ends "flare" up, if that makes sense. and i'm not exactly sure where to measure from. but it's either 6 or 7

My bike just came in totally worth the 210 , I immediately swapped the grips for some cult x vans collab grips. Still going to do some upgrades, but bike is very smooth
I've had nothing but positive things to say about it. I know others have had issues but even if you replace the rims, tires, and sprocket. You're still under 500. I know parts can vary. I might have to look for one from the 80s, never heard of them. Check out walmart website, see if they still have any. If you get it, please let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching
Thrasher is a old BMX company the company was bought by Kent the bike company was known from well over the early parts of the 1980s and BMX racing the bike is only for nostalgia purposes only if you remember the bike from the 80s
thrasher or thruster? i'm thinking that was just a typo. honestly, don't remember hearing about thruster in the 80's. but for the price and what i got, i love it. thanks for watching
i know it's not an american bottom bracket. other than that, i'm not sure. i believe these bmx 29ers all have the same size bottom bracket though. should be easy to find out
@Unbothered-h7j not sure what you want to eliminate. But you can find just about anything on RUclips. I have a couple other videos of bikes I've built that might help you out
yeah, i saw those as well. i've never had anything but a great experience when dealing with returns to walmart. I'm not sure what happened in those individual situations though. please drop a comment after you get yours
@@jeffsheppard_actorSo I’ve received my bike put it together tested it out for about 20 minutes it rides very smooth and comfortable only problem I am having is the brake keeps grabbing the wheel and slowing it down I just have to adjust it but overall it’s a great bike
@@jeffsheppard_actor the first thing I was thinking was changing out the handle bars also I have mixed feelings about the handle bars I like them but then I don’t. Are you gonna upload another video when you replace the handle bars?
@Lowcut23 probably not. I'm building an 85 Californian right now and will upload that video in about a week, not really a how to kinda video, just an overview. I don't know very much, kinda learning and having fun

@@nobodyspecial-d5j quality of bike of you think your going to by a bmx from Walmart then going into skate park or off jump bike is not going to last. I returned the bike I got from Walmart because of that save money by a better quality bike

Yeah, I should probably get my wheels trued as well. Almost always have to get a different seat , no matter what bike lol. Thanks for your input

Nice review. Mine also came with 1 chain tensioner on the right side as well. You can’t beat it for the price.
hmmm i wonder if they only supply one? i already had some knock off SE chain tensioners so wasn't a big deal, but i think they were only about $10

Thruster makes a solid bike for the price. I have the Thruster Dark Matter in red. It has the 27.5" wheels instead. It's very nimble.

Pretty sure 27.2, but it comes with a seat and seat post. It should be marked on it

You're right, and that one is purple. Looks like the gray 29er for $210 isn't available anymore. I did see a 27.5 for $202, kinda a green color though
just saw it on the kent website for $215. on sale from $600. not sure how long it's gonna last
What size are the bottom bracket?
i know it's not an american bottom bracket. other than that, i'm not sure. i believe these bmx 29ers all have the same size bottom bracket though. should be easy to find out
