Especially in the 2000s and early 2010s, Sri Lanka was a force to be reckoned with. They were underdogs in the 90s and then beat Australia (the best at the time) in the WC final of 1996. This changed their fortunes forever. They reached the WC final in 2007, 2011, t20 WC final in 2009 and 2012. Unfortunately they lost all those finals but they won the T20 World Cup in 2014, beating India in the final. Murali was retired at this point but it was great to see them win a big title. Players like Sanath Jayasuriya in the 90s and 2000s, Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, and Lasith Malinga have been brilliant players and since they have all retired Sri Lanka has struggled to be the team they used to be. *Nick, Murli and Shane Warne are the two spinners who played at same time but Cricket world would never witness such top class spinners n big Turner of the ball. Murli had tough time during his Cricketing career. He was suspected of foul action and bending arms beyond legal limit. His bowling was discarded on ground by an Aussie umpire caused a big shameful incident in live match and Murli was subjected to test after tests in labs but later it was founded that Murli has congenital defect in his right arm which stops him from straightening it and gives a deception of throwing (sometimes called chucking) instead of legit bowling so he was cleared. He is a wrist off spinner and this rare accident made him such a top class spinner that at times you can read the wrist of Warne and judge the type of spin but in murli's case you are just a sitting duck ,his action and position of wrist is so weird that batsmen get uneasy to no help seeing it. Murli is so capable that he can spin the ball off glass which is almost impossible as glass offers no rough surface to impart spin. He also knocked the coin placed over the stumps in a practice with Nasser Hussain. The 4 guys you saw in England team getting out were legends too.. Andrew Strauss, Collingwood, Pietersen and Freddie the Flintoff. Those were the times when every team was super powerful. Sri Lanka is small island but they are always a gritty team they won world cup within few years of getting Cricket affiliation 👍🏻*

Rudy Koertzen is a legend himself, his umpiring style was really famous, took ages to put up that finger. Another really famous and hilarious umpire is BILLY BOWDEN check him out too.
Taking 8 wickets in an innings and 800 in your career is quite a feat and Muralitharan can be regarded as the greatest off spin bowler of all time. Also FYI Indian spinner , now coach, Anil Kumble once took all 10 wickets in an innings. And back in the 1950s an English spinner, Jim Laker, once took 19 wickets, 10 in one innings and 9 in the next , for total 90 runs. This is the greatest bowling performance in a test match.
Greatest Test Bowler. One thing the fielder on leg side close to batsman is called short leg not silly point. Silly point is the fielder on the offside. Mura-lit-ha-ran is a off-spinner but he also bowls deliveries called Doosra and Carom ball as well
White clothes - test match Color clothes - t20 and ODI matches , some of the balls muttiah bowls were legal bowls as well, but he was one of the best spin bowler I ever watch, 800 wickets that record will never be broken in my opinion.
Rangana herath was the next after the murali for sri lanka. He is the best test left arm test bowler in the world. Then ajantha mendis is the master of carrom ball another mistary bowler from sri lanka.
I think early in his career there was controversy about his action whether he was chucking or not. But from memory he was cleared and that the band in the arm was due to a slightly deformed limb.maybe someone knows more cheers
He was cleared. What did become a no no was the 'doosra' which was the favourite of most of the top off-spinners but research suggested it is almost impossible to bowl legally.
Murali had a deformation in his arm, that meant it couldn't be straightened completely. Early in his career, an Australian umpire no-balled him continually for throwing, almost ending his career. A lot of work was done to prove that his action wasn't a throw, and he went on to be one of the greatest wicket takers of all time.
Murali was a unique bowler with a controversial action. Went through constant discrimination from foreign countries. Mostly against Australia. Sad because he continuously proved the world that he's not a chucker. But the world still calls him a cheater. Even after going through such rough phases, he still got 800 test wickets. Went on to become one of the greatest bowlers ever to play the game of cricket. Just search "Murali no ball incident" and you'll get plenty of videos
..its rumored that you could hear Murali's delivery coming through the air because of the amount of revolutions it turned at.. would like to know if this is true
Murali had a deformation of his right arm which didn't allow full extension of the arm. He was called for "chucking" many times throughout his career . Good choice to react to a Muralitharan bowling video. He's an unorthodox off spin bowler. Normal off spin bowler's stock ball spins from left to right (bowler's perspective) after it hits the ground. Muralitharan and only a handful of other off spin bowlers also bowl the doosra (means the other one in Hindi/Urdu), which spins around right to left. Murali was able to do it because of double jointed elbow and hyperflexibility although some question whether he or others can bowl the doosra without exceeding the 15 degree elbow bend.
Traditionally India, Pakistan and Srilanka, called the Sub-continent as a whole, produce great spinners and players from England and other countries struggle to play them because they don't produce such spinners themselves and aren't used to it.
MURALI is an OFF SPINNER, spins the ball from left to right, BUT, he developed this delivery THE DOOSRA (meaning the other one in Urdu, its pioneer was SAQLAIN MUSHTAQ from Pakistan) which turned from Right to left with exactly the same action. SAQLAIN, MURALI, WARNE and ABDUL QADIR are top of the list when it comes to MYSTERY SPINNERS.
They are not mystery spinners.. They are orthodox spinners with lots of variations.. Mystery spinners term is usually used to describe spinners whose stock deliveries batsmen usually fail pick from hand.. Once batsmen start picking it, they start losing effectiveness as they are not genuine.. Ajanta Mendis, Danish Kaneria, Paul Adams are few of this kind.. @@phanirajsrinivasch8108 right. I just wanted to say that the batsmen were always guessing which way the ball would turn hence the 'mystery' but yeah you are right.
He had a naturally bent arm. You saw his more nuanced wickets where he developed the doosra (one which turns the other way). You might want to check his older videos, he would turn the ball crazy
In Cricket in order to get the wicket the bowler must appeal bcoz according to the rules if the bowler doesn't appeal even if the batsman is out the umpire won't give him out that's why they shout and the reason the umpire takes time is to make sure that the impact in on the line
Murily was an outstanding bowler in a very good Sri Lankan team. He could spin the bowl both ways without any noticeable difference visible to the batsman, totally unplayable on a spinning wicket.
Murali and shane is the greatest spin bowlers. And murali have lucky disability that is why he able to bawl dusra but no one can recognise.basically he is a off spin bawler, but he found the dusra witch is turning the ball other way with same action. That is why they can pick the delivery. And kind request. If you guys can do a 'best sir lankan fielding' video..
You asked what kind of bowler he is. He's basically an OFF-SPINNER where he moves the ball from left-to-right off the pitch. But Murali developed his bowling over the years to a point he can move the ball the other way off the pitch with the same hand movement. Batsman tend to watch bowlers hand carefully to get an early idea of where the ball would go and make an informed decision of what shots should they play. But with Murali it was very difficult to make a prediction of that sort because his hands where doing the same and the ball could go either way.
This was not Murali's best figures against England. In a one-off test in 1998 he took 16 wickets including 9-65 in the second innings. Jayasuriya got 219 and Sri Lanka won after England got 450 first innings. Murali could turn it off any surface, I reckon he could spin it off polished glass. He did questions about his action during his career but was cleared ultimately as having a bend in his elbow. The doosra was the really in ball for off-spinners but it is generally held now that it cannot be bowled legally.
I would love to see you guys have a game of cricket, you will get a much better grip on the game. There are plenty of cricket clubs in the states .would love to see that video.
doosra in the kind of delivery which turns the other way and the batsmen surprises... "doosra" is an urdu word means "the other one" And that delivery was actually invented by "SAQLAIN MUSHTAQ". he has own youtube channel too
Umpires are the most respected in the game. And now a days umpires give right decision 95% of the times so cricket fans have stopped ranting about umpires long 5years ago
Whenever Brett Lee ever got a favourable decision from Rudi Koertzen, he'd also mirror the slow finger rise. Not as a disrespectful mockery but in excited anticipation of the decision. See if you can also check out Glenn McGrath getting 8 wickets vs England at Lords.
It appears as if he throws the ball, but he doesn't. This caused a controversy but a detailed study of his bowling revealed that he never bent his elbow. How he did it remains a mystery for billions of cricket fans.
Let's hope you find some of his other videos. This one is good, but it doesn't show his skill as a bowler. There are two instances that stand out for me. One, batsman are guarding their leg stump or off stump. Ball is pitching way outside, batsmen leave it thinking that it will be a wide. The ball spins and goes around their legs to take the wickets. Warne was the only other bowler who did that as well. I forget which side Sri Lanka was playing in one day against. Murli set a complete leg side field setting, with one person on the off side. No one dared to play against his spin, those who tried hit the ball to the offside and got caught. You'll notice that each country had their top legends in batsmen and bowlers in the team, and these teams used to fight it out. They are what you call legends, not generational heroes. Now there are some generational heroes, but mostly teams work better together. These legends hardly come through anymore. Sachin had to face Murali, Wasim, Waqar, Warne, Curtley and other greats when they played the world cup. You don't see that as much these days sadly. Talent get suppressed sadly.
I was thinking about trying to explain how to pronounce Muttiah Muralitharan but I'll try something new & I think this may be more helpful, copy paste "முத்தையா முரளிதரன்" in google translate & select Tamil (his native language) & the pronunciation will be how native Tamils say. Let me know if that was helpful. 4:33 I'm Cricket there's a phrase "the sound of leather on willow" (bat hitting the ball, so pro Batting) but rather saying as Ball hitting the Stumps Ìi̊Í (Stumps probably aren't made of willow but still). In fact the sound of Ball hitting the Stumps (especially when knocking it out of the ground) is like music to my ears (read an old article on cricinfo & oddly Shoaib Akhtar said the same thing lol so probably every Bowler finds it musical). 5:15 You should see Billy Bowden, probably the funniest Umpire. 5:30 _Doosra_ in most Indian languages mean 2nd/second which is to say the Ball Bowled by the Off Spinner went/spun the other way (normally should spin right which the the 1st kind of spin for Off Spinner but doosra means it spun left which is other way so 2nd kind of spin for Off Spinners). When Leg Spinners spin the other way it's called Googly (so instead of turning left it turns right). 5:46 Wow! Well spotted, you're right Nick. His Bowling action bcoz of that has been controversial throughout his career but his elbow bone is said to have a congenital bend so the laws were amended to allow 15° bend to all Bowlers as long as once the elbow it bent that much it isn't straightened coz that'll give a spring action which isn't allowed. 13:45 You're to me a true Cricket fan coz no true Cricket fan can fail to appreciate the shear beauty of Bowling including the sound of the Ball hitting the Stumps Ìi̊Í
This bowler is so dangerous. He mislead the batsman with his bowling action. Sometimes balls spin to the left, sometimes to the right and sometimes it doesnt spin at all. But the action remains almost same
A good batsman should be able to read the delivery from the bowler's hand when releasing.... If they can't read... It's hard to survive against good spinners
Imagine no 10 batsman facing Murali ....😂😂 Murali is the guy who invented "Dusra " which spins other way it will look like normal off spin ( which spins from off stumps towards leg stumps ) but it will spin other way (leg to off ) completely unplayable at times takes the edge nd in to keeper s gloves or straight to the slip or hit the pads (plum) .. Or timber distrubed/ furniture removed 😂👍

Murli said the best batsman him ever bowled to is brain lara. Him never out lara let. But a great legend of the game
Murali took 8 wickets or more more than 5 times in Test cricket, more than anyone else.
You should do Anil Kumble 10 out of 10 wickets in an inning. TEN OUT OF TEN. That too versus Pakistan. Insane performance!
I would love to see you guys have a game of cricket, you will get a much better grip on the game. There are plenty of cricket clubs in the states .would love to see that video.
doosra in the kind of delivery which turns the other way and the batsmen surprises... "doosra" is an urdu word means "the other one" And that delivery was actually invented by "SAQLAIN MUSHTAQ". he has own youtube channel too
Review india vs australia 2001 test match in Kolkata. One of the only three in the history of cricket has a team won after been forced to follow on.
Umpires are the most respected in the game. And now a days umpires give right decision 95% of the times so cricket fans have stopped ranting about umpires long 5years ago
Put a video of you guys playing cricket
Please react sanath jayasuriya ❤ he is the father of modern cricket ❤
The highest wicket taker in tests and one day internationals
Whenever Brett Lee ever got a favourable decision from Rudi Koertzen, he'd also mirror the slow finger rise. Not as a disrespectful mockery but in excited anticipation of the decision. See if you can also check out Glenn McGrath getting 8 wickets vs England at Lords.
It appears as if he throws the ball, but he doesn't. This caused a controversy but a detailed study of his bowling revealed that he never bent his elbow. How he did it remains a mystery for billions of cricket fans.
Please react to lasith malinga 4& 4
4 wicket in 4 balls
That's Murali(=flute) + Tharan(=hold). Muralitharan(=flute holder), is another name of Krishna.
React to anil kumble.....he is one of the 3 top spin bowlers of all time(others r muralitharan and warne)
Please react to his 800th Test Cricket wicket. It was his last test match also.
Those golden ages of Sri Lankan cricket! It's sold out to politics now
Nick... A correction.... It's a test match, not an ODI.... You said test in the beginning
I didn’t even realize I said ODI. Thanks.

React to Anil kumble 10 wickets.
This bowler is so dangerous. He mislead the batsman with his bowling action. Sometimes balls spin to the left, sometimes to the right and sometimes it doesnt spin at all. But the action remains almost same
Plz react on sachin' s inning against pakistan 2003 worldcup..that inning was pure class
There is knuckle ball in cricket too ASHWIN does it better than anyone lets throw Sunil Naraine too in there they are amazing with knuckle ball🔥🔥🔥
React to wahab riaz,s deadly bouncers to shane watson
A good batsman should be able to read the delivery from the bowler's hand when releasing.... If they can't read... It's hard to survive against good spinners
Imagine no 10 batsman facing Murali ....😂😂 Murali is the guy who invented "Dusra " which spins other way it will look like normal off spin ( which spins from off stumps towards leg stumps ) but it will spin other way (leg to off ) completely unplayable at times takes the edge nd in to keeper s gloves or straight to the slip or hit the pads (plum) .. Or timber distrubed/ furniture removed 😂👍
react on waqar younus 7 wickets against england and newzeland plz
REACT to ANIL KUMBLE'S 10 wicket haul.
