I’m not completely sure on how it works but KBS isn’t the only streaming or promotion service even though it’s one of the most well known. This way, the banned songs can be promoted on other networks like MBC and SBS which are two other just as big television networks! Hope this helped!
yeah these don’t even include the songs that almost got them blacklisted. they have more songs criticising the society, government etc. and another thing is they’ll never have their mixtapes broadcasted on Korean tv bc they’re not official albums. they’re not even on Korean streaming platforms bc those mixtapes are out for free (though people can still buy them) and none of them had official solo debuts, but they’re still outstanding soloists it’s amazing.

The government which at the time had taken over via a military coup tried to claim that it was a riot instigated by communist sympathizers. Years later, the victims were honored with a memorial and the incident is now considered a democratic uprising. It wasn’t the Korean government’s finest hour, so higher ups didn’t want to talk about it ......

Everything here is what I picked up after a year of being Army (to answer your question and participate in the discussion at the end of the vid): BTS actually didn't do too well in South Korea till 2018. They were so popular overseas and not so much well regarded in Korea. A lot of their songs critisize the government and the system which almost got them blacklisted. I remember that in December of 2017, some put like a petition for them to disband under the blue house (where the president lives). This was obviously after winning in billboard awards and performing in the AMAs yet they seem to still face opposition in their home country. I think this died down in 2018 after topping the billboard chart the people realized that these guys literally bring BILLIONS of dollars into the economy. BTS were not a traditional kpop group when promoting because (especially at first) they got no media coverage like acts from the big 3 would get. Dudes literally vlog and upload to RUclips. Even on verieaty shows and award shows they were not treated the best, had bad waiting rooms if they had one at all. I remember watching a clip of them rehearsing in the hallway in front of bathrooms maybe 3 or 4 years into their careers. Because of that kind of mistreatment that they have their own shows now. I remember reading an article about a host of a show who turned them down in their early days, and how he'd do anything to have them on now... How the tables have turned lol. Obviously now they have a lot more respect and recognition (which they totally deserve). Honestly this is one of the reasons why I am even more proud of their achievements, being the underdog and ending up crushing everybody (I am talking numbers wise so don't come at me lol).

Many armys are Phd holders and Professionals in Accountancy, Research, Engineering, Architecture, Philosophy, Education, Journalist, Linguistics, Law, Medicine & etc. Many talented artist like graphic designers, animators etc. When you have a fandom with these kind of people put together then you combined our love and dedication for the boys, nothing is impossible. We have our own Data Analysis how,when,where and what to do for our boys get to the top. Our army artists make own promotional video of our goal for specific comeback, we have voting team, streaming team for every specific platform & country, charts team for every specific chart in every country. Every BTS content we have Army Translators from Korean to English then to every language possible. The only thing we can't do anything is the US radio station who don't play much of their songs no matter how much we request it. With all of this fandom capabilities, the buying power, knowledge and skills. All the of these stuff being done for BTS by the ARMYS are all for FREE and no one is leading us. Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) is the national public broadcaster of South Korea (equivalent to your BBC, I suppose). They tend to be far more conservative and stricter in their standards of broadcasting materials.
NU’EST technically isn’t “babies” per say to BTS because they debuted March 15, 2012, but they are I supposed considered “babies” or “little ones” to HYBE/BIGHIT and sharing a company with BTS. They’re still considered seniors in KPOP though. They’ve been around AWHILE. Even debuted before BTS which is crazy to think about.
Besides KBS there are other big entertainment corps like SBS, Mnet, and MBC so while you do take a hit from not getting on KBS there are other broadcasting stations you can get on. Also Waleska's makeup is always on point :)
A lot of groups change the lyrics for promotion so it gets approved by kbs that’s why they’re still able to get fans to listen even though they are small. Ik Bts had to do that for a few time in years back while promoting in the music shows. Also I feel like the banning of dope didn’t really impact them that much because that song was one of the first to get really popular with the western fans, so whatever they lost from Korea, they gained in the western side

You are perhaps unaware of how anti the korean media was because the media was under the influence of the Big3 companies who had money and power. These companies who have most of the groups popular, blackpink, exo, nct etc. BTS had a tough time. They struggled with help of army. Unlike many other groups from small companies with little money BTS persisted and broke through. Good examples of underdogs. Not just them but the fans were terrible too. Petitioning against awards they received, or running abusive hashtags against them which would even trend at 1. One was # break the wings, just before the release of their album wings. Not just banning their songs but also not inviting them or giving them slots. If invited, they were treated badly. So they stopped going and started their own shows like Run BTS and Bon Voyage. A person from KBS humiliated a very young JK who had gone to attend a reality show. That video is available on youtube. He was one of the men who interviewed BTS recently on KBS after many years. JK was sweet and forgiving. Armys weren't so easily pacified. If you search, jo seho rejected jungkooks burgers, you will find it. There are quite a few clips around showing how bts was treated. Well it's just KBS banning it. We still hve MBC etc. But indeed they would still be affected because like u said KBS is big. Plus BTS hasn't done that much promo on any variety shows in Korea. They mostly use to do music banks & some variety shows which they then completely stopped. And then they started their own content like RUN BTS & Bon Voyage. Their mixtapes are literally released for free. They aren't even available on Korean streaming platforms like MelOn or Genie. It's only on Spotify, Apple Music & SoundCloud. So how did BTS overcome not getting play on the networks? Very simple ARMY. And not just Korean army but international army was a huge part of it. Even when they only had 300 fans coming to a fan sign that first time less than 2000 Twitter followers they were passionate fans. Fans who spent their own money to promote BTS. In America and in other places in the world fans were spending their own money and organizing to multiply that and buying ads and posters and calling radio stations. They weren't just calling radio stations they were giving them flowers and thank you cards buying them a pizza with a thank you for playing BTS. You could drive down the highway in South Carolina and see on one of the members birthday or during festa time billboard for BTS in 2015. And of course these things didn't necessarily greatly expose BTS to the general public at all but it shows just how passionate each and every fan was and how they were in their own lives connecting with each other online and spreading it to their friends and family. So you have these boys who are working incredibly hard with great production company big hit making really great music that they're having a part of in writing that it's their story their songs their words. They've got performance skills second to none in K-pop so their reputation for knife like choreography is growing constantly. They are on RUclips with their dance practices they're on v live logging from before they even debut about their dreams and ambitions and heart for music and struggles. And they have this tiny little company behind them big HIT entertainment who is working them and working with them Non-Stop. If you just graph out other K-pop idol groups and those first three years and how often they released music how often they were traveling to a different country to do some kind of get to know us tour even if there's only a couple hundred people in the audience BTS was running running working so hard harder than anyone else releasing more music and creating more opportunities for fans to engage life all over the world it started tiny but no one worked harder than BTS and no one put out higher quality content more often. Not just a BTS record or single but covers of songs on soundcloud mixtapes just dropping random songs here and there that they had created sharing their heart. Vlogging each in flogging Hope on the street. And they couldn't get on to those Network variety shows that were the staple of K-pop idol groups. They showed up and maybe four and their first 3 years. So big hit made their own for the boys first rookie King and then run BTS and BTS Gayo all through v live. These showed how the boys were friends the chemistry that the boys had and for some of them who might have been too shy or awkward or just got lost in seven members on a variety show with producers and hosts who are in control it allowed our seven members to all shine.

Asian country has different culture. And it is not comparable to other asian country depending on our personality. Maybe kbs, banned bts song due to issues to maintain korean rich culture, which maybe kbs has a big commitment to maintain their own rich culture in respect to korean good governance. By means of strict compliance for what their government sets of standard not to go out their artist for the set standards. It is the culture to maintain their own set of standard or parameters not to harm the ideology of their own young generation. That is my own prerogative.

In regards to these songs that got banned on TV broadcastings mostly are "b-side" songs, b-side are not usually being promoted during the debut of an album. For the charts "title track" is the main focus and TV promotion is not included on the computation /criteria to chart a song. If they ban a BTS song it would be their lost not the boys. Besides in when they debut internet around the globe is already available.

Every BTS content we have Army Translators from Korean to English then to every language possible. The only thing we can't do anything is the US radio station who don't play much of their songs no matter how much we request it. With all of this fandom capabilities, the buying power, knowledge and skills. All the of these stuff being done for BTS by the ARMYS are all for FREE and no one is leading us. One will come up and if majority agrees WE GO for it.

A lot of groups change the lyrics for promotion so it gets approved by kbs that’s why they’re still able to get fans to listen even though they are small. Ik Bts had to do that for a few time in years back while promoting in the music shows. Also I feel like the banning of dope didn’t really impact them that much because that song was one of the first to get really popular with the western fans, so whatever they lost from Korea, they gained in the western side

You are perhaps unaware of how anti the korean media was because the media was under the influence of the Big3 companies who had money and power. These companies who have most of the groups popular, blackpink, exo, nct etc. BTS had a tough time. They struggled with help of army. Unlike many other groups from small companies with little money BTS persisted and broke through. Good examples of underdogs. Not just them but the fans were terrible too. Petitioning against awards they received, or running abusive hashtags against them which would even trend at 1. One was # break the wings, just before the release of their album wings.
Not just banning their songs but also not inviting them or giving them slots.
If invited, they were treated badly. So they stopped going and started their own shows like Run BTS and Bon Voyage.

Well it's just KBS banning it. We still hve MBC etc. But indeed they would still be affected because like u said KBS is big.
Plus BTS hasn't done that much promo on any variety shows in Korea. They mostly use to do music banks & some variety shows which they then completely stopped. And then they started their own content like RUN BTS & Bon Voyage.
Their mixtapes are literally released for free. They aren't even available on Korean streaming platforms like MelOn or Genie.
It's only on Spotify, Apple Music & SoundCloud.
And the mixtapes are never performed live except maybe in their own concerts or festa by chance.

So how did BTS overcome not getting play on the networks? Very simple ARMY. And not just Korean army but international army was a huge part of it. Even when they only had 300 fans coming to a fan sign that first time less than 2000 Twitter followers they were passionate fans. Fans who spent their own money to promote BTS. In America and in other places in the world fans were spending their own money and organizing to multiply that and buying ads and posters and calling radio stations. They weren't just calling radio stations they were giving them flowers and thank you cards buying them a pizza with a thank you for playing BTS. You could drive down the highway in South Carolina and see on one of the members birthday or during festa time billboard for BTS in 2015. And of course these things didn't necessarily greatly expose BTS to the general public at all but it shows just how passionate each and every fan was and how they were in their own lives connecting with each other online and spreading it to their friends and family. So you have these boys who are working incredibly hard with great production company big hit making really great music that they're having a part of in writing that it's their story their songs their words. They've got performance skills second to none in K-pop so their reputation for knife like choreography is growing constantly. They are on RUclips with their dance practices they're on v live logging from before they even debut about their dreams and ambitions and heart for music and struggles. And they have this tiny little company behind them big HIT entertainment who is working them and working with them Non-Stop. If you just graph out other K-pop idol groups and those first three years and how often they released music how often they were traveling to a different country to do some kind of get to know us tour even if there's only a couple hundred people in the audience BTS was running running working so hard harder than anyone else releasing more music and creating more opportunities for fans to engage life all over the world it started tiny but no one worked harder than BTS and no one put out higher quality content more often. Not just a BTS record or single but covers of songs on soundcloud mixtapes just dropping random songs here and there that they had created sharing their heart. Vlogging each in flogging Hope on the street. And they couldn't get on to those Network variety shows that were the staple of K-pop idol groups. They showed up and maybe four and their first 3 years. So big hit made their own for the boys first rookie King and then run BTS and BTS Gayo all through v live. These showed how the boys were friends the chemistry that the boys had and for some of them who might have been too shy or awkward or just got lost in seven members on a variety show with producers and hosts who are in control it allowed our seven members to all shine.

KBS is just sensitive to any minor profanity. Perhaps it's cause it's a national broadcasting station. There was a time when we were afraid the SoKor Govt would ban BTS cause some of their sings are so political. Spring Day and Am I wrong, in particular, referenced the ferry tragedy and some remarks made by politicians. They weren't even superstars at the time. It was quite unnerving actually.

Asian country has different culture. And it is not comparable to other asian country depending on our personality. Maybe kbs, banned bts song due to issues to maintain korean rich culture, which maybe kbs has a big commitment to maintain their own rich culture in respect to korean good governance. By means of strict compliance for what their government sets of standard not to go out their artist for the set standards. It is the culture to maintain their own set of standard or parameters not to harm the ideology of their own young generation. That is my own prerogative.
