I've always put cheap foam back carpet in works vans. It cut's down a hell of a lot of the constant drumming noise coming from the load area, boxes tend to stay where you put them rather than sliding about whenever you speed up/slow down/corner, and it stops things from wearing all the paint off the raised floor ribs. I usually stick it down with a light coat of cheap spray adhesive over the entire load area floor. That stuff stops the carpet going "Baggy" in the middle (As can happen when only sticking it down around the edge), and it's really easy to remove with some isopropyl alcohol when you either want to replace the carpet, or remove it entirely when you're tidying the van up to sell it on (Those pristine load area floor ribs can make a tidy van look like it's had a REALLY pampered life. :D).
Smudo approved projects are the best ones! I love how all the little details make it a great solution. Thanks for showing the prototyping process. Making your stuff fit your life is really a wonderful concept, I need to keep that in mind.
I love seeing makers build stuff for their pets .. Smudi is such a hansom pupper,Great project ,super practical like the L hinge and only slightly jelous of your bridgeport!
Your work is not only creative, inventive, and practical, but you are a joy to watch. Your energy and enthusiasm, even when you are having challenges, are infectious. You always leaves me with a smile.
First of all, dog comfort and approval is always the first thing to consider! Secondly, I am so impressed by this seemingly simple but excellent design!
1Laura, the end-product on this looks so clean and finished. I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there takes your design and starts manufacturing them. Superb work
Laura, I love your channel and I especially love some of the gems of wisdom that you put out there. Making your possessions accommodate your life rather than your life accommodating your possessions is a tremendous outlook.
As usual, great project. And I learned a new german word, I now know that rubber feet is gummerfusse. I’ll try and remember that next time I visit a German hardware shop. 😊
I like your way of thinking. I'm building a camper out of not the most practical car, just because I like it, and what you said is a good way to explain why.
Hoping that your work inspires me is an understatement. Your work always inspires. And the balance and understanding of need vs want is an important part of any process. Thanks Laura and keep up the good work
Haven’t watched a video of yours that I don’t love, but I always especially enjoy the projects you do to your T5. Been thinking about a similar idea for a while now and I think you’ve given me the missing pieces to the puzzle!
I had an old van years ago. Carpeting it was a great idea. So much quieter going down the road, and warmer too. You can always throw a tarp on top to avoid getting it all dirty.
Such a brilliant idea, I love the way you come up with great ideas that at first seem crazy. You have to have things that fit your dog's lifestyle, then yours. 👌
Oh! So beautiful! Whenever I find a way to make something that really makes the idea of form following function in a simple but functional way, I get such satisfaction. But to make something that allows for more than one function, while still being simple: That's genius! As always, you inspire.
I admit I had no idea where you were going with this until you installed it. It's brilliant! Really like the latches on the walls that keep it rigid. Maybe I'd think about rounding the upper corners of the side wall cutout too, to make sure Smudo doesn't get scratched by them on accident as he jumps in/out :) Great project overall, the carpet looks much better than the white scuffed floor too!
I just found this channel. I love it already. I feel like I would really enjoy her company while she's making things. (If anyone else knows of channels like this please let me know)
Good afternoon Laura, that box 📦 that you have created for your VW T5 and then adapting it for your lovely dog Smudo to be able to get in and out of is brilliant 🤩 and I can’t wait to see your next project on Sunday next week and until then TaRa for a bit.
I think it would be interesting to see the pit in the middle of your shop floor used for something..like storage or have some hinged covers or removable covers like diamond plate so the pit could be used as a mechanic pit again to work on vehicles or your forklift from the underside.. Use the pit challenge to get your shop to its full potential..
Great build, i would add still some self adhesive foam or smth to cover wall ( van wall that's steel ) to insulate when Smudo is there and a two hoop's on that plate so you would be able to lock wheel of your bike there ( hoop's could also be on hinges
That could work nicely for the bike; triangle "hoops" like I have on the floor of my van that can be raised upright or folded flat against the floor or wall. And, yep - I also thought about some carpet to cover that wall for Smudo! 😊
Hey, im not here to rain on your parade. But, that carpet is for like balkonys and stuff. the small nobs on the back makes so when it rains on it air can circulate and dry the carpet out. in your van. they will rubb the paint off your van floor, making it more prone to rusting. if you want that carpet my tip is to put something inbetween the metal floor and the carpet. like rubber mat or something like that
I would add a collapsible "tray" for the fronttire, to keep it in place while driving. Try to make a mock-up by following these steps. Put a hinge in the same height as when the box is fold down. Add (weld) a metal piece that when down will end behind the wheel. Bend a rod so that it creates a U-shape. This should also be mounted with 2 hinges but approx 8 cm higher. Then connect the metalpiece & the U-shape rod so the 2 can pivot. And then of cause make it "Smudo-proof".
Very cool design. Especially that bespoke hinge. Any concerns about the screw stripping out the wood over repeated usage? It looks, from here, many timezones away, that it's going to wiggle a bit.
What about putting a wood bolt insert into the end of the wood and use a bolt or a rod with a thread on one end ( threaded I to the wood) and smooth on the rest of it. I am thinking this might be stronger and more resistant to coming loose / damaging the metal on the hinge mechanism. Great video as always and both dogs are looking healthy.
"For the dog" is a good reason to do anything.
It's really the only reason necessary!
And sounds more peaceful than "For the horde"))).
"For the dogge!!!"
I love Laura’s “wow! I can’t believe how well my crazy idea actually works” smile. It’s joyous.

Functional, elegant, and for Smudo. Perfect build.
I never in a million years thought that I would almost tear up watching a build, but this 8:23 ... I mean by the fire and everything 😭
😍
Such a good yawn ❤️🥱
Smudo's look of gratitude just killed me!!! 😍😍😍

I love your ingenuity. I loved the prototype process. And the results were awesome. I could see how proud of yourself you were , and rightly so.
First of all, dog comfort and approval is always the first thing to consider! Secondly, I am so impressed by this seemingly simple but excellent design!
The proud look on your face when the proof of concept hinge worked 👍
It wouldn't be a proper Laura Kampf project without a complicated hing of some kind. 😁 Always inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
1Laura, the end-product on this looks so clean and finished. I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there takes your design and starts manufacturing them. Superb work
Love it. Simple but effective for the purpose it was designed for. And I love your delight when an idea works.
I love this project. Your ability to create a design is astounding. Thanks for sharing this video.
Laura, I love your channel and I especially love some of the gems of wisdom that you put out there. Making your possessions accommodate your life rather than your life accommodating your possessions is a tremendous outlook.
The dog approves of it and that’s all that matters. Looks great to me love the way that it works
That was ingenious. As a mechanic, dog lover and tinkerer. This is great.
You are Smudo's Best Friend. And in return, he's always ready for testing. Good idea for the adaptative box.
Nice job LK I love the simplicity with maximum effectiveness ❤️ 👌🏻
As usual, great project. And I learned a new german word, I now know that rubber feet is gummerfusse. I’ll try and remember that next time I visit a German hardware shop. 😊
Not quite, it's Gummifüße. Rubber translates to Gummi and feet to Füße.
@@tec4303, thank you, I stand corrected. 😉 Cheers!
I like your way of thinking. I'm building a camper out of not the most practical car, just because I like it, and what you said is a good way to explain why.
Just to add a shout out to the look of slight worry from Smudo when you put your jacket over him. "won't you be cold human?"
Hoping that your work inspires me is an understatement. Your work always inspires. And the balance and understanding of need vs want is an important part of any process. Thanks Laura and keep up the good work
Love the van with the box added and of course, the carpet. Wonderful! Your smile as you build the box says it all! Great job!

Never doubt your self with your ideas
Love the project
Love from England
I love Smuto. Nice design. I love your little laughs when your describing your ideas….

It’s all about the dog, just like at our house. Love it
Laughed so hard at "I sound like Tyler Durden, I'm sorry ,I'm ok, I just wanted to build this box"
same 😆
I just found this channel. I love it already. I feel like I would really enjoy her company while she's making things.
(If anyone else knows of channels like this please let me know)
Making your puppy happy and safe while riding is a great reason for doing this or anything else🐝🤗❤️
Love how you traced the template for the piece that fit against the seat backs. Inventive as always! 👍🏻
Now I know what “gummifusse” are! Thanks for another great video! I get it and agree - it’s best not letting material possessions own us.
Gummi Füsse = rubber feet
Awe... The pup loves it immediately and a bonus Tyler Durden reference. Great work! :)
KISS Keep It Short & Simple! Good idea that works well! Excellent!
The way your face lights up when one of your ideas works! ❤️
You’d make one helluva shop teacher. I learn something new from each episode.

That hinge may work on something I’ve been pondering about. Thanks for the idea.
Again smudo appears as your inspirational advisor🥰
Awesome design! I particularly love those latches
I would love to spend a day in your workshop..... and your head! You are so creative and your knowledge is incredible. Love watching you! 😁👍
.... Also, what a great bike!
Wait! Are we not going to be introduced to Smudo’s friend?
Great video.
That is Mac and they are best friends and hang out every day
@@laurakampf love it. They are both gorgeous!

(Also ... no relation to Tyler Durden. Just to be clear.)
Of course he is, he's Laura's!

That double hinge... Wow. That was some engineering kung Fu right there. 💪🏽
Ingenious!!!! Certified International Puppy Approval.
Hi Laura, du hast immer geniale Ideen und vor allem sauber umgesetzt 👍dein erfrischendes und ehrliches Lachen ist unbezahlbar
Great film. Super useful project. Smudo's a great dog. Mahalo for sharing! 😊🐒
Smudo Blick am Ende war Gold! So ein Süßer!
Sleepy Smudo content is the best content. This was fun.
I like your box. Good for the dog.
hey Laura nice to see you every Sunday being creative : )
Ja, das ist schon eine coole Idee den Raum für Sperrgut und auch für individuelle Einbauten zu nutzen. Danke. :)

Excellent music selection 🤟
Awesome ..... & most importantly, approved by Smudo. Cheers Laura and thanks for sharing. Happy Sunday :)
"Why do it?"
"For Smudo."
"Say no more."
exactly. lol.
Hahaha talk about thinking out the box, pun intended , genius idea you are something Laura 👍🤗
Carpet is ok. Especially since you haven’t glued it down. If you need to get it out, just unscrew a few things, and not horrible to get out.
That new storage system is so cool holy crap
I have the same van, and I think you will give me plenty of inspiration 👩🏼🔧
Smudo is the best reason for anything
aint it so cool when a plan comes together!
Laura sounds awesome when speaking German!
Love your philosophy of life
simple life, smile in each project, observe and learn. what else?
very useful and creative solution. thank you for sharing!
Good Sunday morning to all!
I wonder - could you put a harness on Smudo and attach that to the wall via some strapping, as kind of a doggie seat belt?
I would add a collapsible "tray" for the fronttire, to keep it in place while driving.
Try to make a mock-up by following these steps.

My van is carpeted walls and floor. Stops things getting damaged. Also stops things sliding about. I used office entrance hall carpet from eBay.
Tolle Idee, noch toller umgesetzt 😃👍
I think at this point I need to accept that I'll never be as cool as Laura is
Nice 👍 I love this prototyping part! Cheers
A very beautiful piece!
Perfect......clever idea Laura!
Very cool design. Especially that bespoke hinge. Any concerns about the screw stripping out the wood over repeated usage? It looks, from here, many timezones away, that it's going to wiggle a bit.
Very clever and neat !
Nice project! Well done 👏
Inspiring as always! Wish I had a shop like yours!
Smudo living the life. Haha..great work as always. You always come up with genius solutions.
Practicality = No carpet
Doggo = Loves carpet
Laura installs carpet.
👍 correct choice IMO
I have carpet in my camper and love it!
Qué buena idea ése tipo de bisagra 💡. Saludos desde Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷
Thank you Laura,XLNT vid,enjoyed that.
😎❤✌
Empowering :-) and I love projects that enhance ur productivity!!
Smudo is one lucky doggo!!
We love a good prototime

Very nice upgrades
Ok, im stealing this..! No shame at all... Such a great idea!!!
Have fun with it!
Love all your videos but I’m super on board when they involve Smudo! ❤️🐕
Great job 😍😍👌👌👌
great design and custom project. You rock!🦌💌❤️🙏👍
