Boglins - Toy Cleaning and Restoration

- Vintage Boglins are prone to attract all of the nasty dirt, fluff and gunk around, making them filthy. But after 30 years of building up muck and grime, what's the best way to clean a grotty Boglin?
Products used:
Flash Multi-Surface Ultra Power gel for cleaning
Superglue for repairing rips/tears
Citadel acrylic paints for touching up paintwork (you could mix in a little liquid latex to make it more flexible and less prone to cracking, but I didn't both)
ive wanted one of these my whole life, and i just got one today for $25! thanks for the video, i'm looking to get ol Drool cleaned up and restored
i guess youtube has decided that i'm into boglins now
yep
well done you've rolled back the years on this Boglin
Thanks. It really doesn't take much. :)
@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews What was the type of paint you used on the mouth and tooth? I may try and give my boglins a paint
@@thetrapdooruniverse6425 I used Citadel and Revel acrylics (around the 13minute mark), but you have to keep them thin, or mix them with a little latex (or ideally use latex mask paints) to avoid them cracking when the rubber flexes.
@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews Thanks that's very helpful
it makes him look more like he lived in a bog with the dirt
Great video !!!! Loves bogs
I wish I still had my original Dwork. So glad they’re coming back 😄
Yes, I'm looking forward to them releasing new sculpts eventually (rather than just the old ones with horns). :)
@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews Yeah they’re 3D scans of the originals too and a different rubber so invariably they’ve lost a little definition and don’t have the same feel however the colours look amazing. I hope Tim does the Soggy Boglins again too.
@@Oldmonstrosityshop he had done soggy boglins on the totims site
@@Oldmonstrosityshop his website totims has a bunch of boglins he hand made himself. i just ordered the gold horned King Vlobb off Walmart, and a Galaxy Purple Boglin Imp, Kneep, off the totims site! they are my first boglins so im stoked.
Dwork is all new looking again!
The eye mechanism is actually pretty simple to disassemble, I used to take it apart and put it back together when I had one in grade school and there's not much to it.
Fantastic restoration!
Looks amazing friend
one of my friends whos a bit older then me told me about these things . wow they look amazing . oh and cool video man !
Thanks! This is a vintage boglin, but it's great to see tehy're hitting store shelves again!
Great job. 💪🤓
Thanks for you help. It's moment to restore the mine. Hello from México 🇲🇽.
How is Mexico?
@@yourmom9828 Great!
@@yourmom9828 where are you from?
Amazing! Great job!
I've just picked up the same Boglin, he's not in too bad of a condition but he is a bit dirty and inside his mouth the paint has wore off and it's gone a bit tacky, like the lips stick togeather if you open and close his mouth, do you think I could still clean him or would it be too risky. It doesn't look as dirty as yours tbh
I'd like the dirty look if it was paint vs actual dirt
I have a doink in the loft in its box, i would say in average condition. I can't seem to find any others for sale on eBay etc, any idea what the value would be roughly
Can you do restoration for the slightly smaller Boglins.
Thanks needed this if i ever restore the one I’m going to get
great video mate!
Thanks a lot!
i dont know , i watched you remove the clips that hold the arms an tail .with ease .the first 1 i bought the tail clip was loose and it was a real chore to pop it on . . the 2nd one i bought had the nody clipped to the box with the tail clip .i could not get it off . i used a fork as a pry bar and that was a fight .i tore a hole in the box trying to pop the clip .i thought i was going to rip the runner . i did get it off and popping it on wasnt easy but not the war of getting it apat . ami the only 1 that has to fight those clips ??? im never removing the tails lol . i want a few more but i hate those clips lol
I would recommend maybe trying a rubber glue like the glue you get from a tyre repair kit
Could you write the products used for cleaning, pasting and painting in the video description? You would do me a great favor! Thanks
Done
very thanks! Did you also use a fixing paint?
@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews You've done some great work.#1 Boglin Boi Jim Sterling would be proud
do you have any other Boglins in your collection because you basically said he’s ready to go on the shelf with his brothers and sisters ?
Yes, I have most of the common vintage boglins - I just need Slobster to complete the set.
@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews So when did you start collecting to get this lot ?
@@Byle1990s Oh, probably about 10 years ago.
@@AtticRaidersRetroReviews ok
Hey, is that Flash cleaner just like super strong dish soap? Trying to find the right sort of thing where I live. Thanks!
Yes, basically it is.
Hi. I've recently brought a boglin off e-bay which is in a similar (if not worse) state than the one in your video. I'm hoping to restore it and I'm going to use your video as a guide. Worryingly, my boglin is cream rather than green, so I'm not sure how clean it will come up. Also the tail is detached so I'll need to fix it. Do you mind if I contact you for help/advice should I need it?
Feel free to ask any questions once you start on it. :)
Hi. Just to let you know I'm shortly going to attempt restoring a boglin similar to the one in your video. I'm going to use your guide. Do you mind if I contact you if I need any help/advice?
Is there any advice for if the boglin has perished a little? Anything you can apply to help?
Hard to see the results with the high contrast lighting.
Soak it the warm another first with some Dawn Dish Soap
Abd use a Blue Scotch Brite Spinge
I have the same one, wanna restore him as well?
Not really a service that I'm offering, but it's dead easy to do yourself. :)
I tried to clean mine and just rinse it with water and it turned all slimy and sticky and had to toss it out because it was nasty I don't know why water did that to mine but it did
Sometimes the rubber breaks down over time and goes sticky. As far as I know, there's nothing you can do about it.
this should jut be an ad for flash
You should try tactical soap TWU
LEYKIS 101 !!!
Think I saw that thing on a wet market once.
Someone said that that flash is good for bogs not boglins lol
Can I buy him
Sorry, this guy is in my personal collection.

Why this give a lot of satisfaction after seing it?
My old Boglin I washed so much that his skin started to rip and his tail fall.
soft head electric toothbrush works .
Yes, good suggestion. :)
