- TED Fellow and equity bioengineer Erika Moore investigates how cells controlling inflammation behave differently depending on a patient's background. By focusing on the "who" behind the disease, Moore is uncovering why certain diseases disproportionately affect certain ethnicities, paving the way for more inclusive and effective health care. (Recorded at TED Fellows Films 2024 on April 16, 2024)

Dr. Erika Moore, an equity bioengineer, investigates how immune cells respond differently based on patient backgrounds. Her research focuses on understanding why certain diseases disproportionately affect specific ethnicities, aiming to develop more inclusive and effective healthcare solutions.
Rfk said this and he was labeled a conspiracy theorist

RFK is a kook who is now back peddling because of past anti vaccine rhetoric.
Nothing he said, can excuse his ignorance, even claims of ambivalence is incongruous with his expertise.
Diseases are racists? Yes. Healthy diets are color blind. Fix our diets first. Especially the public school lunch programs serving junk food. 😢
Looked it up, and confirmed. That just saved me about 4 minutes of my life and most of my remaining brain cells.
I hope you can help with auto-immune diseases as no one else can .... just treat the symptoms.
Very interesting and inspiring work!
Beautiful message ❤️ 💖 💕 ♥️ 💗 💜 ❤️ 💖
I hope she becomes a regular here on TED!
Would love to have a cure for Crohn's Disease before it kills me.....
My mom is 88 and has had that since she was 50, a long and emotionally taxing disease.
I wish you luck, cause in the age of anti intellectualism, that could be a tall ask.
I think this is a noble cause, but I feel like the title is misleading. The question of why different bodies have different immune responses isn't really answered, aside from a single line about the experiment results.
It doesn't delve into the juicy details about the mechanisms that cause this difference, and instead spends most of its runtime focusing on the disparity on research between different demographics.
There is nothing wrong with tackling this topic, but I feel like the title and the main topic are not aligned with each other, and titling it something like "Scientist helps research differing immune responses in underrepresented groups" would reflect the purpose of the video a lot better.
This is FANTASTIC!!!🎉❤🎉
I found out that one loratadine and one generic pepcid AC for 30 days solved my sinus inflammation but have no idea why. It has been an amazing difference. Histamines are a major puzzle piece.
Very informative.
*Erika* without a doubt, background can be crucial. However, that is not to toss as rubbish what we know about the environment. If our background transports the ammunition, what is it that pulls the trigger? That's the environment. In the case of our human-induced lifestyle diseases, it's _what's on the fork_ .
But it doesn't make sense considering her siblings are from the same background as she is. So wouldn't the individual be the primary issue?
Then what is a regular bioengineer?
The title should not be why but how.
what is the reason for watching up;
Diet diet diet
Thank you for this information. My body doesn’t respond to the majority of inflammation blockers. It's a really bummer, and it's giving me the blues. I need a hip replacement because the inflammation is wearing away my hip joint, and the doctor can't stop it! I🥹😡🥹
Right now, in the US, the Trump administration is going the other direction, away from inclusion and diversity.
You beat me to it lol
SHES NOT A DOCTOR
SHE NEEDS AUDIENCE
WHAT IS IS ?
