I had never heard this (or any of the other non-film songs) until recently at a The Little Mermaid performance in Kansas City. So many of the songs, especially this one, completely blew me away. I look forward to the future to see The Little Mermaid, with this beautiful music, performed as many times as possible.

This kinda sounds like Proud Of Your Boy from the Aladdin musical. Me and my sister kinda noticed that Alan Menken songs sound similar. The love duet from Newsies sounds like A Million Miles Away from the Aladdin musical, apparently a song from Little Shop Of Horrors sounds like Part Of Your World. Also Les Poission sounds like Human Again.

It's interesting to think about, you know with siren's song luring in Sailors. It proves just how much Eric is in love with the ocean, and how much of a sailor he is, that Ariel's song takes over his entire life. I really love this story as food for thought, Disney rendition or the original story.

1) it works better in the context of the overall show than on its own in the soundtrack, especially since they built Eric's character up considerably from his role in the movie. 2) I think this is supposed to allude to the mythos of sirens with enchanting voices since sirens are often depicted as mermaids and Ariel is, ofc, a mermaid.
