Hi Alone, first, I want to thank you for the great shoutout. In my 76 years in Alaska, I have tried everything under the Sun, But, for these many years, I have become immune to them. They are a pain when you try to sleep, they always go for the ears, lol. I hope you have a wonderful Summer.
Glad you like the bug zapper. One other thing I do is fill a spray bottle with cooking oil (the cheapest) and where standing water is caught (puddles, tires, bird baths, lawn ornaments) or items I can’t move (55gal drums with recessed tops). I lightly spray the oil. It thins out and keeps mosquito larvae from being able to breathe. They die and the birds and fishes like the snack.
Kenai no longer on bed he is going to be so lonely😢. Lol me without my doggies on bed I rather get bitten. We have very dangerouse ones in South Africa you get a illness called malaria. We sleep with fans on most of the time summer or winter. What works for us in my language kaki bos its a type of bush and citronella oil we spray it everywhere. Love love the view so much❤
Lots of good information. I have seen a couple times that OFF was the only thing that "kinda" worked. Alaskan vampires are sometimes attracted to the mosquito repellent. ha ha
when I lived in Brazil I never used mosquito netting, just pulled the bedsheet up over my head and ran a fan. sometimes you could still hear them buzzing around but that worked for me. never really had a problem in Alaska but I lived in Fairbanks and Anchorage and they weren't as bad in town.
For the mosquito repellent for humans I have one word: Picaridin. It comes from the piperine, found in the group of plants used to produce black pepper. An Army soldier recommended to me because I am a mosquito magnet and the bites gets really bad all around my body just after a small gardening session. I buy mine at the place with the A. I hate chemical repellents so I use this and it works wonders. I hope it does help.
Good video. Tough enviroment to live. Looks like Everglades mosquitos where I grew up. Think the Seminoles used bear grease too. We had to cope with hurricanes but not all your snow though.
Hi Alone and Kenai, Beautiful opening scenery and music and love that homemade seat you have sitting outside. Great homemade concoctions-will pass them on. If Pres. George Washington used them that's good enough for me! That netting over the bed is a good idea! Now I know that the mosquito situation there is no joke-Yikes!.. Thank you for sharing..
Just returned from West Africa my 4th trip. This time I took vitamin B1 sublingual drops and minimal bites normally I’d be eaten up! Lots of love from Nevada!
Thanks for the mosquito repellent formulas, I'm the person in a crowd that the pesky little buggers attack the most (maybe because I'm so sweet) HA HA . Scenery is great everything seems to be waking up. CMQCAA++
Hi Chip! I used to have a friend who joked she couldn't go out in the rain as she would melt. I asked if she were related to the wicked witch of the west? Her reply was "No silly! I am made of sugar!" 🤣 Maybe you too are from the same bloodline? LOL. Glad you liked the scenery. I have an upcoming video in a few weeks that I am sure you will enjoy. 😉💛

Always enjoy the gorgeous scenery! Thanks for all the awesome information that you gave us all on how to fight the mosquitoes. Hugs to precious Kenai and sweet you. God Bless you and Kenai always
Looks like you’ve figured out how to handle those little buggers. They don’t bug David much, but for some reason they swarm me 😆. So far we haven’t had many skeeters, but they will be here shortly I’m sure. I use the lemon- Eucalyptus or just the essential oil….and as long as you walk faster than like 3 mph you’re good 😂 Stay safe and bug free
Thank you, Alone, for your wisdom in how to kill these annoying pest! Even though I live in the city, there is a creek that is right behind my apt they do come around us and our dogs, so I will try one of your rubs on. Thank you for your great videos.
I had the best luck with hot shot fogger. It stays on the bushes where mosquitoes feed. I only needed to fog 2 times a year and it made it livable outside. Great video.
I've noticed that a few of the commercial repellants don't seem to work around here..... they actually seem to attract the mosquitoes... burning pinion wood seems to help a lot...
Thank you for sharing your awesome suggestions for handling these pesky creatures. Everyone stay warm, safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia.
One more thing that might help~I keep a portable fan sitting just inside my house door blowing towards the door so as I go in & out, it keeps flys & mosquitos from entering due to the fan blowing towards them. 💁♀️ 🏠 💨 🦟
I just sent that recipe to the mosquito repellent to my sister she knows quite a lot about essential oils took a course on it and they didn't even tell her what she found out essential oils are toxic to Pets
Mosquitos are truly annoying. The Noseeums are the worst variety here in Southern Indiana. The assortment of ticks are also challenging here. I've been using Lavender oil to protect myself, but your homemade spray looks interesting too. I want to try that also. Grissom says "woof".
Hi Beth! I use lavender body soap, and my homemade laundry detergent has lavender essential oil in it too. Yet, the mosquitos still come around if I don't have other deterrents on. I even use a citronella soap for my hands, so if I forget to reapply the essential oil spray I have something on that will help to repel them. I wonder though, if you are having success with the lavender, what type of lavender it might be? Maybe the essential oil in my soaps and detergents are a different variety that might not be as scented. 😕
@@AloneinRemoteAlaska I'm putting straight Lavender oil on my skin in spots the mosquitos and ticks tend to aim for ie ankles, neck , wrists and behind my ears. I try to not apply so much that I smell like the inside of a diffuser. 😜
Hi Alone. I love love your channel. It just brings me such calming vibes. The flys have been so bad the last few years in my state that we were joking about them being our state bird. 😂

a small light outside on a pole with a fan behind the light blowing into a sock made of fine mesh will gather a surprising amount of flying insects including mosquitos in the course of an evening these can be added to chicken feed to increase protein for your chickens also to reduce mosquitos around your property ..! this is something I have personally done and it's quite effective ...!
It was so ironic that your video was all about mosquito repellent because I was just researching natural ways to repell them on my upstate NY property!! Can't wait to try you spray recipe!
OOoooh those nasty little bloodsuckers, I am scratching just thinking about it! Thankfully no mosquitos here, I have a stream on my land, and no standing water. I think I rather want to deal with a viper or two instead of those mosquitos! 😂

We have our yard sprayed for mosquitos because they loooove my husband, they don't bother me too much. But I wear the hat-netting get up to garden when the gnats come out. Ugh, while they don't bite like mosquitos, I hate gnats in my nose, ears and eyes...shudder...thanks for another interesting and informative video about life in AK. Hi Lori! Yes, I agree with you the gnats are so annoying how they fly right into your nose, ears and eyes. The mosquito netting while it seems kinda silly to look at, it works! If I had mosquitos like this in the city, I would consider spraying too! I hope to see even more wildlife on the trail cameras this summer. 😉💛
When I lived in Houston I fished a few bayous in the area.Well if you live anywhere in Houston you know the mosquitoes are big enough to put a saddle on them and they bite like you're getting a vaccine shot. I don't remember who it was that told me to use Skin so Soft by Avon. I bought some and to my surprise it worked great. Now this was the original Skin so Soft back in the 80's and I found out it contained pepper or something like that .Avon now has a product that is strictly for mosquitoes now. I have not tried it but it looks like they finally got smart. Good luck.
I battle carpenter bees that bore into the wood in the eaves of my porches and home. Do you have problems with these? They make sawdust everywhere and jokes. Hi Alone, in a previous video you asked us viewers if we had any suggestions for what to do with the back of your property. Based on this video I suggest a Dragonfly / Bat sanctuary to take care of the mosquitoes. 👍😁 Seriously tho, is it 10 drops of any one of those essential oils, or 10 drops of all?
I have kids in my backyard whowere getting bit up. One of their Dad's brought me a bottle of Kutter Backyard mosquito spray. When applied it lasts for 12 weeks. It was amazing. You do need to apply it using a garden hose though.
Hi Debbie. I have found that with the witch hazel essential oil spray that I don't have to reapply as often as I do the cutter brand. Even a couple of hours after applying I can still smell the scents on my skin and don't find that I am bothered by the mosquitos. Additionally, the cutter brand tends to leave me feeling sticky and like I need to take a shower after applying. But I do know that everyone's body is unique and reacts differently to essential oils. 😊💛
Ah, thank you, Debbie. If you locate some bear fat, I would love to know where. I searched high and low for some, and even asked some of the local hunters for some. 😊💛
Does it help to build a fire in a fire pit near where you are working/eating/entertaining? That’s what i do here in NYS… just curious Love your channel
Miss Alone, Now theres some useful information. My new card has a new expiration date and such. I tried to edit but i got an error...simply due to a zero balance. I will take care of it June 3rd. I had to slap myself upside my head and say DOH!!!... I knew about rancid bear grease but your blend might smell a lot nicer. Peace, BigT
Hi Big T! Glad you found the information useful. And yes, I am sure that the essential oil blend smells way nicer than the bear grease. No worries on the card issues. Been there, done that myself. 😉💛
The Mosquitoes are very pesky critters. Its funny how the more remote you are the worse they are you would think just the opposite. When I went bear hunting out in the middle of nowhere the drone of mosquitoes was mind numbing and constant the whole 3 days and nights. When I got home everybody was complaining about all the Mosquitoes around I just sat their and smiles and thought if you only knew. Thank you for all the great tips and tricks now I wish I had some of that bears fat left. Until next time God Bless
Great video! Alone, I know u have talked about reloading before I wanted to ask if you thought u would eventually do it? I have an older-but perfectly usable reloading press id be happy to send you-if you thought u could use it :)! Let me know
I find the Black flies or White Sox to be much worse than Mosquitos. They leave any exposed skin bleeding. I have some organic repellent I bought a couple of years ago. Hardly ever use repellent. Depends on the area and terrain .
Hi Debbie. I have not found a good solution for Kenai. Since he is always by my side, I usually just wind up brushing the mosquitos off his nose. That is the main place that they land on him. Poor puppy. 😳
@@AloneinRemoteAlaska Lol. Here with mine I always see them land by her hind end. She’s on heart worm prevention so that is good for that but I just hate her itching the lumps.
Hi Teri! Black spruce oil and black peppercorn oil too. If you cannot locate black spruce oil, at least try to find the black pepper oil as this is a key ingredient. 😊💛

Hi Thomas! Yes, I have heard that Orkin and other services like that work well. I don't think there is anything like that available out here. Maybe Dork can add it to his Wedding planning, VCR Repair and Food Delivery Service and call it Dork'in. 🤣
Hey I love your video mosquitoes oh my God I have stories I could tell you they love me if there's a mosquito within 500 miles they always find me. Now the other big thing is CO2 if your body puts out a lot of CO2 they will find you in a second I think my body does do that. When I was in Northern British Columbia I got a little device to wear and it puts out the sound of a female mosquito especially the male mosquitoes stay away from you and it worked pretty good I didn't get bit too bad. I tell everybody the most important tool you can have around mosquitoes black flies or any insects that bite 90% or better rubbing alcohol and what you do you put that on the bike multiple times the pure alcohol gets into the bite and dries the bite out. After that I put a little triple antibiotic on the bites and that helps from getting infected. And let me tell you I had a mosquito or mosquitoes bite me on the leg in Southeastern Alaska about 15 years ago within 3 days I had cellulitis in my leg oh my God. Had to go to the hospital had to get transfused with some special junk had to take really hard and got it for the stupid thing hated it. But my worst experience was coming off the ferry at Prince Rupert and driving to Hazleton British Columbia. I've never seen the mosquitoes so bad they were relentless just wouldn't stop couldn't wrote a window down in your truck if you went to sleep in the back of my truck got in there they were biting through my clothes they were so hungry. I still have scars on my elbows but the rubbing alcohol 90% are better is the big trick put that on your bites and you'll thank me in the morning bye-bye San Pedro California🦟

Great info. I’m going to try your repellent recipe.
Love the hat and your dress!!!!
our state bird in MAINE is the black fly
In Florida citronella candles the bugs love them had it all around even under my chair and I had more bites Than I could count
Great video an some good info
We have mosquitos so big in Kentucky you can put a saddle on them an take ‘‘em for a ride
Thanks for this! I'm going to try a variation of your spray. Also love the mosquito netting. Definitely going to try that one.
I also use the dunks in my fountain where I have goldfish. No adverse effects to the fish in the last several years.
Hi Felicia (sorry, had to give you a real name) your video is so informative, thanks for sharing. BTW I love John in Alaska 😊
Great vid again. Watched it while having breakfast…with bacon n eggs…also I think drinking Stout ales keeps mozzies away. 😂have a happy day. Brun
I read that brewer's yeast tablets for dogs will repel mosquitos.... might be worth checking out for your pup..
Don't worry about the netting. With blonde hair, that sweater, and a 357, you look quite good.
@16:05 what type of camera or app are you using for it to follow your movement like this? Thank you
Miss Alone,
Now theres some useful information.
My new card has a new expiration date and such.
I tried to edit but i got an error...simply due to a zero balance.
I will take care of it June 3rd. I had to slap myself upside my head
and say DOH!!!...
I knew about rancid bear grease but your blend might smell a lot nicer.
Peace, BigT
Hi Big T! Glad you found the information useful. And yes, I am sure that the essential oil blend smells way nicer than the bear grease. No worries on the card issues. Been there, done that myself. 😉💛
Good video. Thank you much.
Let me know
I get very bad reactions to bites off them, but living in UK we don't have them, it happens when i go to Spain.
I find the Black flies or White Sox to be much worse than Mosquitos. They leave any exposed skin bleeding. I have some organic repellent I bought a couple of years ago. Hardly ever use repellent. Depends on the area and terrain .
I just love ur channel. 💗 😊
If ever I see a bear coming up behind you Im going to be yelling so loud.....🤣🤣🤣....I hope you hear me.....🤭🤭
i would plant garlic around the house and yard, skeeters hate garlic, boil it make a spray. its cheap enough
I’m sorry I’m commenting as I watch lol. Also what do you do for Kenai?
Would love to copy your recipe but a little confused,,, Did you mean black seed oil or black spruce? And real black pepper?
Looks AMAZING!
Hi Teri! Black spruce oil and black peppercorn oil too. If you cannot locate black spruce oil, at least try to find the black pepper oil as this is a key ingredient. 😊💛
@@AloneinRemoteAlaska Thanks!
I've worked a few salmon seasons in Alaska...mosquitoes ain't no joke.
i dont understand how they survive the winters

My son was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska his first 4 years Army , Before I visited Alaska I ask him to send me a sweatshirt, lol, he chose one that had a HUGH MOSQUITO saying it was the Alaska State Bird. ...... I KNOW THEY ARE BAD HERE. 🥰
if any of your preventatives really work good let us know.
I LIVE IN COSTA RICA!!! lol
i use Orlin they come in do their thing no critter bugs 😁
Hi Thomas! Yes, I have heard that Orkin and other services like that work well. I don't think there is anything like that available out here. Maybe Dork can add it to his Wedding planning, VCR Repair and Food Delivery Service and call it Dork'in. 🤣
How about building one or two bath houses. ?
I had everything to make the bug spray. I live next to a river and the mosquitoes can be thick. Thanks.
How goes the job search?
Beautiful state HOWEVER why would anyone want to live there in the warmer weather ?
Do you fish and hunt .
Do you like tea?
Do you have deer ticks on your property? 😬😄
I always hated to hear a mosquito. They always attacked me so bad.
Build and hang bat houses everywhere.
