When she said her parents knew 6000 people, she wasn't kidding. I grew up in Maquoketa as well and it is a very small community where if you see someone you don't know, they are a traveler or visiting relative. I met her once in her gallery, very talented lady.
This woman is a modern master. There is no wasted brushwork and there are such great compositional choices for a 12 x 12 headshot - background, cropping, color etc. I've not seen her "old master" technique but for this alla prima technique, Manet et al have nothing on her in my book. Sargent might have an edge but not by much. Hope my envy can motivate me to get better! Love your work, Rose!
I just became familiar with Rose's work, through a Richard Schmid tribute video (he was Rose's teacher). She seems like an amazing human, and I admire her artwork and perspective. This video really speaks to me, encouraging me. God bless her.
Rose, I recently purchased your video....WOW....love love your approach to the portrait...I'm from a small town in West Virginia....I can't imagine what it would be like to paint all those wonderful faces....this video is so much fun...thank you

Rose - you alone are a human inspiration - thank you so much for sharing this project with the world. LOVE

I first saw Rose Frantzen in Streamline Art video, and in conversation with Eric Rhoads. I just loved it. And now this. Way to go Rose. I am your fan.
