Karl from "Make It Kustom" gave you guys a big shout out & now here I am subscribed, watching & learning. He also makes a great plenishing hammer too. Billy J... Queensland, Australia.
So I fixed a big dent on a corner piece of aluminum trim on a camper. Used your small shot bag and a slipper to shrink the dent and get it close. To finish I took a polyurethane caster I had laying around and with hand pressure on top of my table saw was able to get a smooth finish on the piece. The mobile wheel looks like something a hobbyist could also mount on a bench and use any number of ways. Watching your videos keeps my mind in overdrive! Thanks Wray. Great stuff.
so I'm making my list let's see plans for gathering tool, plans for mobile english wheel -- are you thinking about anvils for that? gonna need those. very cool piece of tooling. hard to believe the healey nose -- that was mangled scrap when you started!
It is fender from Mercedes W123 ... First three digits in Mercedes part are telling which type was originally made for. Thanks to the Wray & The Team for interesting presentation.
The triangle from a road race bicycle makes a decent plannishing hammer / English wheel frame. The head tube and the down tube can be cut and made to accept both hinge and working bits. This allows a geometry swapping option to be supplied standard. Once we ramped up production the other one was second nature. Reynolds 531, Invisible 10° Train Track Bikeless in Milliseconds trick and a Columbus 4130, Liquored Up, Padul to the Mwadal Oldsmobile 442 Red Light Drag in R are my favourite self recycled frames. No memory blanks make them special.
Great video! I'd love to buy a set of plans for both the mobile English Wheel and the Planishing hammer: even the gathering tool plans when available. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of working sheet metal on RUclips! Carl Carlson
Your videos are outstanding Wray! Love every minute of them. Any chance you will make an english roller kit for us to buy? If not, where do we get those anvils so we can build along with you? Thanks for taking the time to post.
Hi Nick, we have a CNC lathe and we make all of our anvils and top wheels. I do plan to offer plans and a kit for the mobile English wheel. I will wait till we make the second one which will have design improvements.
@@proshaper Wray that mobile English wheel is genius 👌 DIY plans and a how to plan will be huge. Also a DIY video on your mobile plannishing hammer would be cool as well. Would work great for guys hammering out welds on roof skin replacement and guys doing custom hot rod work with chopped roofs exc. Both videos would be great for the channel to grow. More diy Tool videos for those who love to build there own stuff and don't have huge bank accounts. Older dolly restorations like you did with the hammers. DIY stands to hold Dollies and jigs for hand formed metal work. All kinds of cool stuff.
The mobile English Wheel seems to require much less skill (and time) to remove smaller dents compared to other techniques such as a slapper and dolly. Very impressive!
I like your portable English wheel and planishing hammer. I also have a recommendation for an improvement to the English wheel or any similar hinged tool. The recommendation is to use a toggle type clamp to close/open the hinge. That would speed things up quite a bit. Open the toggle to make pressure adjustments=no need for wrench of any type on the adjustment, plus you can open the toggle to enter and leave the workpiece. No need to change pressure adjustment to clear flanges or rims on the workpiece. The toggle could possibly be built from a pair of Vise-Grips or some style of De-Sta-Co clamp or custom designed.
I have, go to my RUclips homepage click the video tab and all 239 videos will be there in the order they were made. You will find several on how I make the drawings which guide making a wireform.
It just happens that Gilles (he is the owner of the Talbot Lago fiberglass body we got in.) is a Solid Works wizard and has offered to help with any CAD work I may need. Thanks for the offer. Wray
I bought a portable english wheel about that size at a flea market 8-10 years ago... I found it in the shop last week. IT was manufactured in the1950's as best I can determine.
In reference to annealing aluminium. When I was a plumber we used to use a bar of soap to tell the annealing temperature. Rub the soap on like a crayon , then heat the metal until the soap turns black. Or you could buy a cheap ir thermometer from Amazon.
I have tried every method, the best I have found is draw some scribble lines with a Magic Marker on the panel, then soot it up. Burn off the soot and then the marker.
Wray, my question is where do you find 2” wheels in shapes required to get into various radius? How did you turn the roller sideways at the 90 degrees from straight as you began? I am impressed but missed it, wasn’t shown as it looks welded solid! DK, ASE master, Omaha. Retired.
We make all of our top wheels and anvils. We can make any size. All English wheels should have the ability to rotate the upper and lower yoke 360 degrees. That is how we make all of our English wheels.
Wray, the roof my project car (1961 Karmann Ghia) was used as a trampoline before I got it. Would you recommend a planishing hammer or a wheel to take out the dents and ripples?
I would be happy to send a resume. I have been disabled for the past year. I can't sit or stand for long periods of time but can do both for shorter periods. My brain is not disabled 😊
Life is too short to work very long hours. And all of us follows wants you to live longer. So slow down on your hours. 8 to 9 hours is enough. Take care of yourself....o by the way how much are you going to be selling them for.

Nice of him to do that. With his much larger subscriber base hopefully he'll give Wray a helpful boost.

Thanks Wray! Pure gold.
The end of this video shows just how HUGE your shop is. I don't think I could ever tell in previous videos.
20000 sq ft. Very expensive to heat. Ask me how I know?
@Wray Schelin's ProShaper Workshop I can help with that too. Geothermal/solar. HVAC designer with several consulting engineering firms for 20+ years
Excellent demonstration, I'm really impressed with how well that mobile english wheel works!
Awesome! We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Awesome! Thank you!
Done made that gathering tool Wray. Works a treat!

brilliant explanations love the tools
That Mobile English Wheel is slick, made it look like you're ironing a shirt!
A very good job fantastique
About a month ago I was wondering about a mobile English wheel and if was possible
The mobile English Wheel seems to require much less skill (and time) to remove smaller dents compared to other techniques such as a slapper and dolly. Very impressive!
It was interesting to watch how quickly it worked them out.
That portable English wheel is an excellent tool
Patiently waiting on gathering tool plans!!! Hint hint
That would be perfect for a Vespa legshields
How about some Delrin wheels for painted panels🤔
Any progress on the mobile English wheel plans and kit?

Love this channel
Love your work Wray.
Impressive as usual Ray
I'm interested in your mobile English wheel
Hello,
What diameter tubing and thickness are they made from?
Great stuff
Great tool👍
Could you make video on how to develop a buck from photos and drawings?
I have, go to my RUclips homepage click the video tab and all 239 videos will be there in the order they were made. You will find several on how I make the drawings which guide making a wireform.
I like that mobile English wheel .
I have a whole new design for it. I will make a new improved version and a video.
How about a hinge in your English wheel with an adjustment like a PR of vice grips ..
There is a hinge.
Good one!
Wray I sent you an e-mail about CAD to your proshaper e-mail. Subject Cad. In case it trashed it. I did attach a PDF sample. Great Videos.
It just happens that Gilles (he is the owner of the Talbot Lago fiberglass body we got in.) is a Solid Works wizard and has offered to help with any CAD work I may need. Thanks for the offer. Wray
I've been envisioning this for a while, one that also mounts on the wheel hub

@@proshaper Got ya! I didn’t know! Thanks.
Do air hammers make bite marks if the piece is not completely level in the same way an English wheel can? IE, are the more forgiving?
Same, you always have to watch for bottom die and top die bite.
Wray, the roof my project car (1961 Karmann Ghia) was used as a trampoline before I got it. Would you recommend a planishing hammer or a wheel to take out the dents and ripples?
Long throat planishing hammer.
What kind of turnbuckle is that?
I’m in the UK, and cannot find a turnbuckle like it, maybe I’m using the wrong keywords in my searches.
We also used the term turnbuckle in the states.
The knob that they're turning for tension is made out of a gear.
Are you guys open daily? I’ld love to visit. I’m a Ratrod builder
I'm open 7 days a week from 9:00AM to 10:00PM
I can do the autocad drawings for you if ya sketch it out on a napkin. I'll make it look pretty. I like the barter system 😁
I need somebody here at the shop, easier to make corrections and evolve designs.
@Wray Schelin's ProShaper Workshop huum..I have never been up the east coast...might be I time that I did. 🤔😊
@Wray Schelin's ProShaper Workshop I just want to learn. Money is not an issue...its all fake anyway...unless ya got some gold and silver.
