I got some Liao Laser-etched dice and they worked well letting me roll crits and head shots. Then I used them while playing another faction and when I needed to make an easy 3+ consciousness roll for a pilot, it rolled snake-eyes. I couldn't be more proud: _genuine_ Liao dice!
I agree that the glitter didn't show up very well in the promo pictures on ordering. They also made it sound like there was a difference between the "Officer's SWAG' dice and the "Laser-effect Faction" dice. I ordered a set of each for 5 factions and ended up with 5 double sets versus 10 different sets.... it even showed up different on my order form... I got a couple of sets from BoD at NOVA and perfer those over the Kickstarter... just a bit smaller so they feel like they are rolling around when they hit the tray an WAY EASIER to read...
When I heard about them and saw them on the unboxing video (Randal's production sample) I was a bit excited. But having them in hand....the ones from Baron of Dice are def better.
They are pretty and there are nice addition to your units if you happen to like one of the ones that they have a dice set for. However I'm not a big fan of the sharp edges and they are a little difficult to read.
The problem with dice that have engraved facings or facings with gouges taken out of them (like each pip being carved into the die) is that when you roll the die, the lightest side has a higher incidence is facing upward. So, 1 will roll slightly more frequently than 6, 2 more than 5, and 3 more than 4. My dice are balanced, which is to say the pips are printed on each facing and each facing is square. gives a better, more even distribution of results. The dice you showed are gouged, so will tend to result as described above. You'll notice it if you were to roll them about 100 times and track the results. It's a subtle shift of results, but measurable. Having said this, the dice are quite nice. FYI: I used to support the Casino Industry in Las Vegas, NV. The Nevada Board of Gaming has very specific requirements for balanced dice. This is something I picked up while I supported the software industry over there over a period of about 10 years. So, for tabletop gaming, I make a point to use dice that aren't engraved or have gouges. I'd suggest this to all gamers. For Catalyst, I'd suggest printing those fine images on each facing rather than engrave them.
I was just coming here to post that my set seem to roll slightly higher. I haven't done any real testing of them to know for sure, they have been killing when I've been using them.
I gave this a try with the two sets I got. The star league pair were averaging 16.13mm on one and 16.17mm on the other, with max variance of .05mm The Battletech chevron pair were the worst, with a low of 15.94 and a high of 16.08 on one and 16.02 and 16.23 on the other
I'm underwhelmed. I don't like the sparkly transparent aspect - its just too hard to read the pips (not enough contrast). And I might be in the minority but I'm really not a fan of the sharp edges. I would have much preferred solid colored dice (maybe with a bit of marbling/camo on some factions) with rounded corners/edges. Does anyone sell faction specific dice (with real logos) that would fit this bill?
I don't mind the hard edges personally but I'd have bought rounded ones if that was what they offered as well. You can find stuff from the old MWDA game dice wise but they are rare now and Baron of Dice (Coupon code: ARMEDPAINTER) has some sets for sale but some look closer to specific factions than others.
@joshuaadams8617 all I've heard from CGL and QML say coins. I imagine there are a few other issues too so you may be right, but all I've heard is the Arano coins holding up the train, nothing about dice.
Well, i'm really regretting picking up some dice in the kickstarter now, these seem awful to me. I'll probably just put them away in some drawer and never use them whenever my kickstarter arrives in a few years
The dice are cool, but many are to close to the same color and nearly impossible to read quickly as the pips don't pop. I was not impressed and would not have bought any of them had I known this is how they would be
So, bottom line: yet again, CGL fumbled on a dice offering, chose poorly with respects to design and manufacturer, and we're ultimately looking at a net loss of product. Wonderful.
To give them some credit, the quality is nice, I just don't understand the glittery effect they went with. I mean, we play a game where we try to blow up enemy mechanized units and step on infantry...I'm not sure glittery was the mark to aim for and the fact that wasn't obvious on the KS page is also bad.
@Thearmedpainter I feel like we're getting close to "bait and switch" territory with this batch. While yours mostly may have turned out fine, I've seen reports and pics of others that have not, some just as bad as the Clan Invasion dice, of which mine were totally unusable. For me it will be a wait and see anyway as I still don't have my rewards yet and even with the recent CGL update there's no telling when I will get it.
I regret adding any dice as a single set of dice are holding up my entire KS shipment. Baron of Dice boxes of dice are better deal and also hard edged.
The Ghost Bear dice, at least, are on a blue background. The Smoke Jaguar dice are on a..... lime green dice. I'm glad I ordered both of them in the steel version, at least. I have a 10 set of the Smoke Jaguars I ordered from "da scrap yard ork" that, unfortunately, are just better than what Catalyst has put out. 🤷♂️
For $10 a pair, they should be casino standard.

Way better than the horrible Clan Invasion dice. Most of mine were out of square and you could tell even from table distance.
Despite my criticism of the dice, I 100% agree on this. I actually really like these sharp edge ones just not a fan of the glitter.
I have the old ones, and I like them because they don't have glitter and flash, but still have houses and clans.
I don't mind the glitter inside however for 10 dollars a pair they should be perfect at least in size
hmm, I wonder if there is anything we can do to salvage them? Maybe paint the dice so you can see the pips better.
I’ve taken to just using Baron of Dice and old MWDA dice personally.
honestly i think the dice were the worst part of the kickstarter if i could i would put the money toward another vehicle box
👆

I wonder how my Marik dices will look like.

Being color blind certain faction dice are all but impossible to see the actual design or number on the dice. The glitter really makes it tough
Dice die the dice gods!
Can we purchase these if we didnt do the Kickstarter?
@@WeOnlyEatSoup this I don’t know unfortunately
Hmmm…..so are you telling me you DON’T like the glitter effect on the dice? The glittery stuff, if you will.
Correctamundo
Maybe I will break out my calipers and measure some dice when mine come. Then we can see how off some are.

I wasn't fond of those dice so I sold them on ebay (and gave some away 🤣)
House Arano? How did you get those? Isnt the Arano stuff holding up everyones shipment? (like my 2nd box is held up by the coin 🙁 )
Just the challenge coin.
@@rburt3 I thought some of the dice were holding things up too?

Looks like Temu dice lol
I think the quality is fine it’s just the design choices that were silly imo.
They're too sharp for my tender mitts. I almost stabbed myself on the corner of one of mine.

Dice goblins unite. The mercenary dice (and a lot of the others) have a little too much glitter/glamor to them. Look weird.
Pretty dice but man they are hard to read
Chessex battletech dice was the golden standard, though you guys prolly dont like rounded edges and want to roleplay casino players
If you’ve got a keen eye when watching my battle reports you’ll see a whole mess of Chessex dice as that’s a large portion of what I use.
Not a fan of the dice CGL have made. I prefer the fan made ones that I have collected.
Not a fan of these dice. The glitter ruined it for me. As soon as I saw them I regretted adding them to my KS.
