You are correct that a three phase alternator can be hooked up in whatever order you want. If it were a three phase motor the order would determine the direction of rotation.
Wow, this is bringing back some memories, I used to race one of these in the New Era super club and bemse power bike series. It used to suffer with a lack of rear grip and I ended up getting a really trick headstock and swingarm mod done by Spondon engineering. I had a one off ram air box fitted too and it was quick, but was always a handful. I had some great results, but it hurt me too. Then I moved on to super stock bikes and had an 02 R1, but then the GSXR K3 came along and blew everything away lol. The original R1 is so nice and easy to work on though. I asked Andy about this, seems the whole lock set was replaced as the ignition barrel wasn't very good. I hadn't realised when I shot the vid. It is possible with most fuel caps to be able to remove the lock levers so any key will fit
Yes, it can. It does tend to be a bit awkward though as it'd require a different lever or an extra mechanism. BMW actually put two pivot points on their s1000rr lever so swapping is really easy
@@alexma995 If the levers are particularly grungy, use some fine wet or dry paper (used wet) - before finishing to a gorgeous deep shine with Peek polish 👍
Always use barrel crimps rather than solder. Solder is too hard, inflexible and adds heat to the parent wire and is a source of corrosion in some cases due to the flux and breakages due to the heat introduced

Thanks! I think the engine was a bit beyond the tyres (and chassis) at the time.

Good progress Dave! Didn't realise the original ignition key would fit the new tank cap. Is that the case across most bikes of that era?

As always cool project. Doo you use some sand paper to polish aluminium details? I hawe to polish aluminium levers on my motorcycle🤨🤓😆
I usually just use Peek or Maguire's metal polish and some elbow grease
