I've seen this phenomenon a couple of times off the coast of Southern California. I can say that waves that glow are spectacular, better than any fireworks show.
+Joshep Rubi That certainly isn't a very kind thing to say. What has happened to you in your life to be so unkind? I have seen bio-luminescense of the shores of Southern California. The luminescense is what I was referring to.
I swam with bioluminescent fish pulsating below me in Puerto Rico It was scary and fascinating, more scary tho I’m not talking about the plankton glowing when disturbed, that happens just like in this video, but when a large fish or other bigger sea life pulses, you pee yourself a little
I've experienced this many times in the Philippines' beaches!💕 Their beaches glow color red, purple, blue, or green!😍 Almost all of the beaches there are bioluminescent💓 When it waves and when we swim, it's so magical! Especially when riding a boat
There are 3 bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico this one is Mosquito Bay in Vieques. The other 2 are in Lajas and Fajardo. I've been to the one in Fajardo and is beautiful.
This is awesome, I didn't know so many creatures were so bioluminescent! There should be an IMAX movie just to sit there and look at that stuff. No wonder ancient people thought there were magical sea creatures!
Deanna Lauchlan they've since banned swimming in them bc of the damages to the ecosystem, one of the bays the lights totally went out over it but it's back now so only no motored boats n no swimming ice always wanted to swim in it
and to think, there's like 98% of the ocean completely undiscovered. flora and fauna like never imagined... just waiting to be explored. we should be spending more time exploring the galaxy under the depths as well as beyond the stars. our ocean contains many secrets.
I've seen this since I was a baby in my country the sea water glows at nigth too! Every time we go to the beach thats what we like to see wel the the sea is only 50 feet away from my house
NatGeo doesn't respond to these comments do they? If so, can you all, or anyone else reading this, tell me where I can get a good, portable camera JUST LIKE THIS ONE! This is amazing, money is not an issue! I want one!
Where I live (St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) there's a lake with bioluminescent water. You could either do a kayak tour at night on the lake, (the kayaks there are clear, so you could see right through them), or you could go there and put some in a small jar or something. What I do is take the water from the lake, put it in a mason jar, shake it, and it'll glow for a little while.
Fantástico!! no nosso planeta existem animais extraordinários ... com características que os humanos parece que as copiaram ...não só a iluminação, relógios, bússolas, dessalinizacao, papel, sonar, submarinos etc....uma infinidade de espécies... @rashawn770 I work for the company that made this film (ammonite) and we didn't use Red Cameras, we used Starlight cameras that we've developed and built over the last few years. That means that they are one of a kind and there is nothing similar commercially available. Sorry
I've seen a phenomenon where the underwater sea is glowing with yellow lights. They look like big yellow lighbulbs put underwater in the sea around our boat and its alot like hundreds of it. I've been trying to find what causes it for years but couldn't find this specific phenomenon. We argued whether it's protein, bioluminesence animals or other things. Anybody have this kind of experience?
@MujakiKid In the sea there are most bioluminescence. The colors often seen are aqua, blue and green. On land, fungi, fireflies, glowworms and other bioluminescent creatures use yellow-green, green or just yellow. the only glowworm that uses blue and aqua are the ones in Australian caves called arachnocampas.

+marlys benitah Fiquei feliz de saber mais um lugar onde acontece, Sul da Califórnia está agora na minha lista =)
No you've never seen it because you need a starlight camera you liar I just exposed you

And she is right, you can see it with the human eye... you only need the special camera to photograph it.
I didn't know that. We didn't have smartphones at the time or I'm sure I would have taken a picture, or at least attempt to take a picture.

You can try typing in Puerto Rico bioluminescent bay in the search engine here on RUclips or on Google. Other than that, I'm not really sure. Sorry!
Back in Guatemala the sea water glows like this also
I didn't know we had these this is so cool. 😀
@Beyondz28: It was filmed in the Bioluminescent Bay? Cool! It truly was a wonderful experience.

Most of the light they emitted was to warn you guys to stay away. Good thing you kept pestering them, lol.
If you watched the video through, it's not spitting out light its agitating the plankton resulting in light appearing along the displaced water.
