You just dropped a ton of cash on a new US general or icon roller cabinet and work center now you need to drop another $100 to get the icon magnetic work center light or do you. I'm checking out a viewer-suggested hack to see if you can save 80% or more and get the same level of performance using an Amazon rechargeable set of LED lights.

My wife and I utilize these Amazon lights throughout the house. As we age, it is nice to have a light come on as you navigate your way through the house after hours without turning on a glaring overhead light and waking others up. The charge lasts a long time and depending on the model, some of ours begin to blink to alert you that it is time for a charge (often the blinking will begin about 3 AM which IS annoying). An additional note for you tool boxes, the portability of the magnetic light is very convenient when you need a quick light to search a drawer or need a bit more light under the hood. Not so with the hard wired ICON version. Really enjoy your content - shining on . . .

I would think anyone with a $1500+ tool box already has at least one or two small lights for working on a vehicle. I would rather have something plugged in that I don't have something else to worry about charging.

I have been a fan of these magnetic amazon lights for a while. I use them in my router cabinet, on some of the tool shelves in the darker portion of the garage, and even on that cheap wire shelving in my pantry and linen closet. They work great and the battery lasts long enough.

Been using those Amazon lights for about 3 years in my husky cabinets and they last long for that but also have them over my workspaces and I have to switch them about once every 2 weeks. Used switch them out more frequently but I put electrical tape on the outside half since the sensors are very sensitive. Bought 3 extra for charging and replacement. Honestly took a chance and they're good enough for me.

I have these in my hallway, for night time. First, it goes off after about 3 minutes of no motion. Second, these may be different, but mine have adjustment for temperature (3) and brightness (3), so if you have a bit of glare, you can change from 5000K to 4000K to 3500K (I think these are the temps) or from 100% to 75% to 50% or any combination of the 6. I think they work great.

The icon light is a really good deal at $100. Plus I’m almost sure it’s the same exact light as the snap on I’ve had both and they are exactly the same down to the injection molding marks

I have had similar lights in my house as undercabinet lighting in the kitchen and I did not like them. I liked the wireless feature, but I was charging them all of the time. After a while it seemed that I was charging them every day and that is when I decided to go with a wired solution.

  • @demontekdigital1704

These would be perfect for lighting a dark hallway. I'd stick them about two inches above the baseboard so they wouldn't be blinding, and if you set them to motion sensing it'd give you a really cool space tech vibe because they'd turn on sequentially as you get closer to them. The only thing I don't like about them is they're battery operated. However, if they can be used on the cords it'd be cool.

Like many of those who replied, I also use many of those Amazon lights to enter rooms and sink cabinets (once you stick your hand into the cabinet, the motion sensor turns on the light and I can see everything that is in the cabinet without turning on the room light). Depending on the usage, each charge of these lights last about 3 weeks to a month. I actually use these lights more often without having to turn on the room light (Energy conservation/savings?) I can move throughout the house at night without having to switch on the room light. I have at least 8 of these scattered throughout the house and also will probably be buying more. Some are better than others, but once you find the ones that serve you well, you'll probably pay the extra buck to get the same ones.

  • @gregpreston7301
    @gregpreston7301 6 месяцев назад

Worth mentioning if it hasn't been already... this type of light with motion sensors uses a tiny bit or power even when Not in use. The electronics for the motion sensor is a continuous draw. I have similar lights in a location that is not used often and have cone back to find the batteries drained. I believe thats why they have the 3 position switch. ON-OFF-AUTO. I leave mine in the off position most of the time and move to auto if I'm on a project where I want motion sensor.
Just my two cents but I agree. These are a welcome addition for extra lighting.

I bought a set of those for a closet we have that has no power to it. They throw a lot of light. If someone is worried about wasting battery life, you can turn them off manually if you want to. Plus, I’ve had ours up for six months and have not had to recharge them. I will say that, we’re not in that closet necessarily every day, but I think it was money well spent. If you put four of those where you put the one or two, you will have more than enough light. I can’t remember exactly, but they may even have different levels of light temperature.

I'm guessing you can shoot video in pro mode where you can adjust the settings and they'll stay fixed. Then, when you compare to other lights you can see the difference without the camera compensating. One will seem the same as the other because the camera is actively making them look the same (based on the 18% gray principle). Might make a good trunk light.

Can these be used with a charging cable plugged in all the time?
We had purchased a previously recommended motion sensing LED light in our coats closet which used rechargeable AAA batteries. The good thing was that it used rechargeable AAA batteries and not alkaline batteries. However, there was NO WAY to charge the batteries while using the LED lights - the batteries needed to be removed from its case and charged separately in an external charger - which got old pretty fast.
Hoping these allow operation while "permanently" connected to an old USB-C phone charger for people that have such a use case. We might even consider these to replace the old fluorescent light in our pantry whose bulb has been glowing orange and ready to be replaced.
Great video as always, Jeff! 👍

I took a peek over at Amazon. With vision like ours, old eyes, I am now going with 5,000 to 5600 Kelvin color temperature lighting for work areas. They say they are cool white which is about 4,000 Kelvin. Compare these lights to true daylight lights and you will see the area pop. In fact you may be able to get by with fewer lumens. Try a comparison and see if this is true for you. Now for family and rest areas 2400 to 3200 Kelvin will tell our brains it's bedtime. Don't forget to bring in an old couch for comfort and sound absorbing qualities. Old drapes help, too. Believe it or not, lots of books on a book shelf works wonders and make you look like a genius. Don't forget a commercial popcorn popper. It won't help with the sound, but you can have theater popcorn anytime you want. Be safe.

How strong are the magnets? I’ve got a bunch of books in my RV that would be a perfect application if they don’t fall off on the first speed bump I come across or the gas station driveway curb.

Fairly strong and the lights are very light. I would be stunned if you could knock one lose.

I bought some similar lights from Amazon and they would just stay on when they shouldn't, and then they took forever to charge. Plus I don't want them to turn off while I'm soldering. Not good.

Have them !!! The problem is you always have to recharge them. It's a pain !!! I'd use led strips that plug in !!!

The "extra battery loss until they turn off" is solved easily by a light you have a switch on 😂. You are already going to have power going to the chargers and such so you dont need battery powered lights, and there isnt really any reason to limit yourself to motion or mag switching. A simple mechanical switch isnt exactly a hindrance 😂

I recently picked up a similar light at Home Depot for $14.99. That may have been a sale price though.

I use these Amazon lights in my gun safe. They work great. They do months on a single charge.

Better than no light at all. For those of us that are not rich it will work.

My only disagreement is the cabinets need to be purple, not white lol. I've been using battery operated night lights for my home. These lights look awesome for me and the Mrs.

Not even close because you can also take the amazon light to other places like where you may be working. Much more portable.

The amazon lights work well in the purse and the car.
