I think electric flux & electric field are 2 different entities. Flux is a scalar measured by its density, while field is a vector shown by line with arrow. Charge or magnetic pole has flux but not field around it. Field appears only when flux of one charge interacts with flux of other charge. Change in flux density and motion of flux produce all forces & motions.

Sir I may be wrong but is it better to understand, flux is proportional to Field line density X Area rather writting Flux = field line density X Area, because, no of field line depend on how many lines we are considering.
