Loving the new ranch! What an awesome place to live! The secret to solo canoeing is to sit in the "front" seat, but face the other way. This moves your weight nearer the center and keeps the tip from pointing to the sky. This will make it way more stable. Once you get some bass in that pond they're gonna fatten up quick eating all those brim!

You should be able to easily get or make an outrigger for the old canoe. Will definitely help with the balance. Replace the jug line with 550, paracord or even venetian blind cord. Slap a fibreglass patch on the inside and outside of the canoe. Home depot, tractor supplies or Lowes should have them, even an auto parts store.

Lojo, in regards to your canoe,when you only have one person set in the front seat facing the back seat this will help to reduce the amount that the nose comes out of the water. I personally like to be in the meddle like you were but my knees won't let me stay like that for long so I had a removable seat that hung off the gunnels . And don't worry about the canoe sinking with both of you it should be able to support about 1500pounds .
LOJO big fan of your channel of all the time here but what you need to do is grab one of those Deeper by sonar and throw it in there just to see the continuity of the layout of your pond.

But I would use the same concept and maybe spray some foam insulation in one half of the pvc and rig the line to pull from the opposite side so when a fish is on, the other side should stick out the water as an indicator. When using a canoe by yourself use the seat that would be the front seat for two people. That will keep it from riding in the water like it is doing a wheelie. You can put some outriggers on it to keep you from flipping it as well.
Go to local meat market and ask for hog shoulder. Cut into chunks and bag overnight. Add strawberry or cherry Koolaid powder and garlic powder to bag and let marinate. You'll be amazed at the results.
You probably had a snapping turtle or 2. We used to use gallon jugs with a wire leader, and a big hook, and would throw the jug out, and come back the next day, and find the jugs, with turtles on the end of them. if you put on some more line, and still find them broke off, use a wire leader.

When i did this kind of fishing in Oklahoma and Kansas we use to check them for fish every hour all night long and caught tons of catfish!!👍👍👍
I can tell you from experience if the otter gets in your pond it won't leave until every catfish in it is gone. Best to dispatch it QUICK!
