I love that Dan’s first reaction to being in the video was to wave! So cute! I love your authenticity during your foil process, you’re so relatable and make it less intimidating to try hot foiling!
I feel comfortable knowing that I can foil vicariously through you, Cathy! Your card turned out very pretty and those Moonstone confetti are the perfect match! (I wonder, has anyone else found it a little odd that WFF purposely has the stars at such an odd angle to the tree, instead of just having them straight?)
Incredibly pretty! Love that you keep it real and share the bloopers along the crafty journey with us! Even the cameo from your hubby, hehe. Your videos are always so fun (and so informative) to watch xoxo
I'm gland to hear you struggle with foil because it makes me feel better about my own foil failures. One can be a completely competent crafter and still have disappointing results with foil.
I absolutely loved this video! ❤️ I'm so glad you didn't practice first! Because your struggles show us that we ALL struggle as we learn! Too many times these videos online are so perfect that when we try to duplicate what was shown and keep messing up, we think there is something wrong with us! This video is REAL and represented, at least to me, that PRACTICE makes perfect and PRACTICE takes time and patience! Thank you so much for teaching us this!
ah Cathy.... you give me hope for my crafting skills lol.... I have a foiling plate on my "wish list" as I mistakenly bought a big lot of foil, not realizing it was 'hot' foil instead of just pressure foil... so now I HAVE to get a plate to use it lol! Thank you for keeping us all grounded in reality with a healthy dose of humor! 🤪
I had a rocky relationship with my hot foil machine to begin with, but I love it now. I tape stuff to the side of the hot foil machine to keep it from moving when I run it through the die cut machine. I cut my foil with a paper trimmer and have no issues. Trimming with scissors doesn't seem to be a problem. I love your card so much I did an impulse buy of the tree hot foil plate...right after placing a large order with Waffle Flower :)
This card turned out so lovely! Love that hot foil plate! Next time you try foiling, try Jennifer McGuire's tips! She tapes the hot foil plate where she wants it with a tape hinge, and then slides the foil underneath. I haven’t tried it yet myself, but it Jennifer suggests it I’m sure it would work!
Your videos are awesome! They make me feel so relaxed knowing that if I keep at it, I will be amazed at the results. And your results are always awesome!
Oh Cathy, I am catching up on your videos, and man I love this one! Now I see why you asked Dan to leave the room. 🤣🤣🤣 In all honestly, it looks like my creative process in the beginning of your video. You are the best!!!
Wow! For a bit of a rocky start, you NAILED those plate placements in the end! The composition looks fantastic and I love the colors on this card, and how those sequence match perfectly. Nicely done! It is helpful to remember that the dull side of the foil has an adhesive in it, so that side goes against the cardstock. May I suggest watching all of Spellbinders "Glimmer Bootcamp" videos? I just watched them all this weekend, they don't take much time, and they show you *everything* you need to know specifically about using the Glimmer system including really helpful tips and techniques. Highly recommend them! Also, I took my P-touch and made a label for my Glimmer that says something along the lines of the PFP pneumonic for stacking (plate/foil/paper) "Plate pretty side up, foil pretty side to plate, paper to foil dull side." That way I don't have try to remember the set up!
Oh I'm so sad I missed the premiere, you seem to have had a lot of fun! My favorite comment came from Lancashire Lass: "It's too late to yell instructions at you , isn't it?" Because I found myself doing just that during the replay ... As in "you'll never get enough pressure on a rotary cutter using it backwards" and "there's a reason the platform has a grid, Cathy!" You are such an excellent sport and that is so encouraging. Thanks!! 🥇
@@czdesign And will you try and use your rotary cutter in a FORWARD motion? It's actually quite easy to sharpen your rotary blade, I do it all the time. But it's also cheap now to get replacement blades (and I heard Dollar.25Tree is selling new cutters). I have several on the go and I mark the blade with an alcohol marker: F (for "fresh" or "fabric only"), U (universal, once the first bite has worn off), N (neutral, will cut hardly anything, ready for service). I bet you were looking for a "C" after the "U". I have that, too. It's for "chinked".
And you were adorable in your honesty. Sometimes I think I have my piece all perfectly figured out then True enough the execution makes me feel like I stepped out of my education level. Right? Love your vids to bits.
I love this card. You looks exactly like I do when I am foiling and I would be very ashamed for any to see how many of my hot foil plates that I have foiled. It’s a good thing that it doesn’t hurt them
Way to stick with it!! The whoopsies happen to all of us, we’re just not on camera. 😃 Thank you for keeping it real. ❤️ I love the shine the foiling brings and I love the colors you choose, right down to the embellishments!! Beautifully done!!
So loved this video. I have a love/hate relationship with my Glimmer machine. Love the effect, WHEN I can get everything to work properly (including me). My heating platform fits so tightly into the base that when it's time to remove it to run through the embossing machine, I have to yank it so hard that the hot foil plate, the foil, and the cardstock all shift and nothing is ever where it started...even when I try to use tape. Oh well. I will MAKE it work!
I've had that problem Using the craft tape helps and just today I used the machine and maybe I'm imagining it, but the dock seems a tad looser. good luck! the other option is to pull the dock away and then put everything down. it works fine!
Whenever I need to place a foiled element in a specific spot on a piece of cardstock, I use the hinge method, taping the plate along one edge to the cardstock, then sliding my foil underneath.
@@czdesign Yana is the creator of the hinge technique (i think) and has lots of videos on how to do it. Here is one example. ruclips.net/video/55Pws1XJlcM/видео.html

Love it! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one that has to redo things. 😁 I love foiling! I find that it works better for me when I tape down the hot foil plates. I found that Spellbinders Best Ever Craft tape does the best and does leave a lot or if any residue from hot foiling.
Hey I saw a tip watching Jennifer McGuire, she put a label on her hot foil machine telling her what side is up / which side is down on her hot foil machine.
Such a nice card and also loved the process. Maybe add some liquid glue to the strips of foam tape on the back of card panel to assist in making it straight. You already do that with sentiments and other things with foam, so why not the strips. By the way, it looked pretty straight and even to me. Thanks for sharing the good, the bad and cute card.
It came out so pretty. I had to laugh with you as it was nice to see even the best of us struggle sometimes with cards. We have a vision but it doesnt always work on the card so we adapt. Thank you hugs
Boy that confetti was the perfect bling - matched the ink blend to a tee! I was surprised the foiling worked as good as it did. Jennifer McGuire puts the plate, foil, paper, and shims on first then turns on the timer. I still can't convince myself to invest in a hot foil machine. No room, and don't want to have to buy a bunch of hot foil plates. Fun to watch, though!
Love the video. I recently purchased this hot foil system and haven't been able to get usable results. I always end up with the grid pattern from the base plate all over my designs. I'm going to try without the green shim when I get a chance.

AW, you could've left your poor hubby in the shot, I didn't even notice him until you said something. I thought you were going to use the sequins as ornaments on the tree.
Cathy, here’s a Yana video that shows the hinge method. Start around 8:45 for a preliminary, then the hinge is at 9:23-ish and then at about 11:25 more info. I'm not worried your going to cut yourself, just want it to be more effective for you. I love my rotary cutter. Best of luck and wonderful card.
AW, you could've left your poor hubby in the shot, I didn't even notice him until you said something. I thought you were going to use the sequins as ornaments on the tree.
Oh that would have been a great idea!
Cathy, here’s a Yana video that shows the hinge method. Start around 8:45 for a preliminary, then the hinge is at 9:23-ish and then at about 11:25 more info. Not that I’ve figured out my Gemini hot foil machine yet! I foiled one little shape and it worked, and haven’t been back. ruclips.net/video/I8a_15Pt-co/видео.html If it’s not okay to link to other videos, just let me know and I think I can delete if you can’t. BTW, that card is All the Things. My no-buy holiday supplies has just gone down the drain because of your card.
Oh thank you! I will watch her because I know she's a QUEEN of this stuff. Thanks for sharing Yana's video!
Love the video and the card...except I'm wondering if the sentiment would have looked better just foiled on the card? Seems it would have been more cohesive....to me. Why is this glimmer process so tricky? LOL! Seems straight forward until you start foiling....sigh.
I like the separation of the greeting off the panel, but yes, it could have been lovely too. I just don't have a hot foil plate for that greeting!
Maybe those pen blades would cut the foil…
Very confusing..this is why I don’t foil. My brain hurts
Trust me. I feel that!
