Hello @TAXDODG. I like very much your videos. I am very interested in the equipment shown at 4:47. Can I know the name/brand or something about it? Thank you!
Gilberto Binga Hi, that equipment is called a prickle chain. We use this for levelling the soil where we plant lentils or peas and leaving straw on the surface. It can also be used to incorporate chemical into the soil. This brand is made by Kelly Engineering and a Google search will find them.
Martin Grisotto Hi, this machine is called a Prickle Chain and is 60' (18m). It serves several purposes mainly in this example it helps to level the soil and bring any buried trash/straw back up to the surface and spread it out evenly. This paddock is sown to Field Peas so will be harvested very close to the ground which is why it needs to be leveled and as you would see later in the video we use a heavy steel roller to press in loose stones to minimise damage to the harvesters. It can also be used to incorporate pre emergent chemicals into the soil profile. In summer time it can be used on very hot days to smash stubble and also to knock pest snails off the straw so that they dehydrate and die in the hot weather.
Seeding depth about 30mm and presswheels follow directly behind in the furrow to firm the soil over the seed. Yes the chain is after the seeder and before emergence by at least a few days.
+EG Photography I split it at the spot I want to change the speed and the same at the other end so that just that section of footage is altered to what I want.
+NITROLLATOR Thanks for your comments. Our farm is actually one of the smallest in the local area. The airseeder in this 2015 video is 40'/12m and we used the same rig this year. We have a new larger airseeder ordered for 2017
Cool, everything is on a different scale in Australia. I hope you make another video like this from the new equipment. Could you maybe tell me how much torque a tractor like this produces at the crank? I guess it's in the thousands.
The tractor in this video is 220hp whereas if you check out our 2016 Seeding video we have upgraded to a 310hp tractor in readiness for the new larger airseeder next year. Sorry I cant answer your torque questions.
Why so many operation to sow a crop. On the western US Great Plains so many operations would cause wind and water erosion. Not to address the labor shortage we have in the US.
Thanks for your questions. We work our ground as little as possible and involves usually just a single pass with the airseeder but for Lentils we run the diamond prickle chain after seeding to help level the surface before using the heavy steel roller to press in stones. Generally for cereals it's a one pass operation with airseeder only. Our soils on our properties are quite stable and flat with minimal slope plus we aim to keep as much stubble in place to minimise erosion. This season of 2016 (not this 2015 video) we have sown all our crops into standing stubbles and not used the prickle chain at all and soley relying on the roller to press in stones on those paddocks sown to lentils and peas; hopefully it's enough to minimise stone ingress into the harvester! We operate with just myself and son for labour needs :)
Hope its not gmo shite and that you dont use proven chemical carstration chemical altrazine?? If you do there is no excuse for ignorance so please look up the dangers. Our children need protecting. peace.
Anyone know what's happening at 3:45? Is it a sprayer?
Can someone let me know what the benefit of this equipment which in 4:25 please?
May be used for cut down the grass
Nice background music ❤️❤️

Hello bto wana be a farming job in austalia
Can you explain, what is that machine doing @4:45?

TAXDODG Thank you very much for this explanation.
One more thing - how deep do you seed using airdriller? I assume u use chain after seeding, right?
Seeding depth about 30mm and presswheels follow directly behind in the furrow to firm the soil over the seed. Yes the chain is after the seeder and before emergence by at least a few days.
What you are sowing?
Hiii man i liked ur video !!!how much land fo you seed and with hiw much time?
Hi, Thanks for your comment. We crop 930ha/2300acres.
+TAXDODG and seeding takes about 2-3weeks with just myself and my son operating.
I wonder what the width between the lines.
thanks for the answer
+talgat76 The seeder is 40'/12metres. Row spacing is 9"/230mm
Does anyone know a farm in south Australia that will take on a work experience lad
Go the eagles.do you know Giles' from yorketown??
No can't say I do. I'm a fair way further North than Yorketown.
How much land do you crop?
+NewHolland KTM 2300 Ac / 930 Ha
Thanks for the reply
Nice drone work. What software do you use to edit your videos?
Thanks. Windows Movie Maker. Easy to use but by no means fantastic and can't output above 1080. It introduces a few stutters too.
+TAXDODG I use the same software but how do you work in the speed up and slow down without stopping and starting a new video clip?
+EG Photography I split it at the spot I want to change the speed and the same at the other end so that just that section of footage is altered to what I want.
whre do you get your equipment from I am from SA so I would like to be a farmer
Most of our machinery is sourced from dealers in Kadina.
I've been to Yorktown and around that area got to go
NO ONE CARES
You could probably do 3 or 4 rows with that thing and you would have seeded the average farm here in the Netherlands.
Also I'm not a farmer or particularly interested in it, but the views with that music make for a really relaxing atmosphere.
