For turning ON you simply have to stand on it, it has pressure activated sensors that turn ON the machine when someone stands on it. And it just turns OFF automatically after 15 to 30 seconds of no activity.
You can also use it for measuring other items like food packets. I used it for measuring the weight of my laptop and it shows accurate weight. So you can use it for other things too. But make sure that the thing is not too sharp like LPG cylinder as it will break the glass. 😀
