THIS SONG. I am so incredibly happy to finally share this one with you all. This song has been one of the most time-consuming but also one of the most rewarding songs I've worked on in a long time. This anime is pretty crazy, honestly not one of my favorites but the music from the show is spectacular. Aldnoah.Zero is the Guilty Crown of 2014/15 for me.. I love every song. OK first off, the lyrics to this song.. If you've seen the direct translation then you'll know this song is literal word-vomit in several different languages... I decided to save my sanity and stray from the translations in those parts (choruses), deciding to write my lyrics loosely based off what it sounds like they're singing in "English" in those parts. It was difficult to stay true to the translation while also making the lyrics make sense in English, but ultimately I leaned toward 'making it make sense in English' haha so I hope you can forgive me for not sticking closer to the translation! But Amanda usually going beyond just that and sonetimes changes lyric meanings altogether, which, as an english lyrics adapter myself, I personally don't like, but the central message is the same so hey, let her do what she wants. One year later, just realized the song name aLIEz. If you take the a & z away it is just the word "LIE." = Liar. a & z stands for Aldnoah Zero. I'm so dumb. I was pronouncing the name as "Aleez"
Izaya Orihara IT could also be that Asseylum was allies with both sides of the war, so aLIEz is pronounced as allies, and the a and z represent the two opposite sides of the war. Lie would be the in between, what both sides of the war had in common, lying to Asseylum about certain things
I thought it was pronounced "allies" but with LIEZ in the middle because the singer is a cynic who doesn't trust them or was betrayed also suggests a focus on the theme of betrayal. Which happens constantly in this show

When I first heard this song, it gave me chills because of the message. After watching the anime, this song still gave me the chills and at the same time amazement at how well it's written. Now, with tension building up between countries and with a possible war looming up in the horizon, this song is giving me dread.
I'm still amazed and very impressed that you were able to translate this word salads of a song into English, adjust it and have it fully convey the original song while also conveying the deeper emotional struggles of those of the battlefield. My thoughts exactly. Just the utter, childish reluctance to enter into waging bloodshed, but then the instant realization that it is inevitable anyways...this is one of those few songs that actually makes you step back and think, and I really admire that.
Or, turn it around. A duty, a knowledge that war is an inevitability, but seeing it for what it is, an inevitability, and hating it for that reason. A sort of "Why did it have to come to this?" mentality. Having made attempt after attempt to de-escalate the situation, but being left with war as the only option.
This song is through the eyes of someone manipulated into fighting a war with the idea of respect, glory and honor. The beginning is them childishly willing yet nervous(the doubt of should they) to go to war then they find out what it means to be in war. The 1:19 part Is not childish reluctance but knowing the pain war brings on oneself and others and how selfish war can be that there is no true glory in it that there is no fight for peace and freedom war is a liar thats what the hate is. And the "I'll wage war" is the one who sent the soldier to war crying out wanting peace but they keep willing waging war rather than negotiation for peace thus the reason of the soldier screaming " I SAY CRIER, I SAY LIAR, I SAY RISE IN HELL" and "theres no end to this... cant you see that?" And "was this dream worth it?" I know i explained it bad but hopefully you get the idea.

This was my first anime and my brother and I found/watched it together. We had never seen anything like it before (anime in general) and we were so hyped... we would yell this every time it popped up on the screen

@@ASA-yo9iz Gundam ibo is not a good example of plot armor. The only reason people don’t notice is because villains have the plot armor. Everyone dying is just as bad as no one dying. The right amount of people have to die, and unlike the first season when the fat guy died all the deaths don’t hit as hard since it’s just all random. That indian guy and white girl attached to the general were annoying as hell. The only random death that makes sense is Orgas, as it’s tragic that such an infallible leader dies from a simple hit and run.

Honestly i hear a lot of people say bad things about this anime. its one the first ones i watched when i first got into anime six years ago but, it is still in my top five anime because i love the animation style i love the story too. I still get this song stuck in my head at the most random times. Honestly it is one of the reasons i got into anime. @Titan slayer Aldnoah Zero is one of the worst anime I've ever seen, full of unlikable characters, mindless and stupid plotlines, and a rushed and senseless ending. Its only saving grace is the amazing soundtrack. I would ramble more about the shows poor quality, but I know I've done that on multiple occasions in this comment section, so if you're curious you can look for my ramblings yourself.

There is something quite exquisite about this series.. the way it treats a particular paradox which is that Humans needs non human, detached, strategic almost robot like leadership to thrive and survive while the Vers empire who has acquired the highest level of technology only is moved and shaken by leadership that is passionately human at its core. With his passions, uncontrolled ambition and almost mistaken sense of righteousness, Slaine strikes us as the most Human, Terran of all the characters. And the contradiction is that this very human character, whom the audience can relate with in all of his weaknesses is the most human of all the Character in this Anime series. His devotion to the princess, his constant drive for improvement, social elevation and the acquisition of power is either a sign of consummate love or more importantly the idea of establishing equality between all social classes. Nothing is more compelling than sweetness that sours out of duty and a sense of fatality. It's interesting that as he embraces his dark side and gives himself over to his passion, he brings unexpected inspiration and strength to the Vers team... enough to inspire them to fight until the end. Truly inspirational to see the rise of a being whose birth was destined to everlasting ridicule and social stagnation rise to the top and command the allegiance of those who grew up embracing their privileges. On the other hand, Inaho, the hero and savior of the Terran forces is without a doubt so grounded in reality and yet so removed from all things human. Logical to a point of detachment and a strategic genius to the point of being closer to a machine, you have a sense that Inaho is too logical to ever embrace the maelstrom of human emotions. Humans who have shown a propensity to destroy, and embrace their passions are shown to only survive with the logical and often cold hand of strategy and emotional detachment. Inaho and even Darzana a captain of the earth forces and leader of the Deucallion seem to embody this way of approaching life. This paradox is at the center of so much in the series and how the characters deal with it, is utterly compelling.
+Gerard Beaubrun Wow, that is a really good, well-written point I had never considered. I definitely loved Slaine, especially the way he was so committed to doing what he believed was right, and I really hate the ending they gave him, because I felt that he deserved better. Particularly, I liked how driven and protective he was. He had qualms about killing people, but if it was for Asseylum's sake, he would stop at nothing, which is something I can identify with. I didn't like Inaho because he was too cold and calculating, and didn't seem to care about human emotions, so I couldn't identify with him (plus he didn't get along with my favorite character), but I never thought about the juxtaposition between their two personalities, and how the human aspects (or almost lacktherof) led to the fates of their planets.
Carly Zaugg I enjoyed reading how your minds pieces things together and well you explain your appreciation for Slaine. The end seems unjust to such a character who embodies so much, that in other circumstances could be as inspirational as a Napoleon. By the way, who is your favorite? ;)

+Gerard Beaubrun I appreciate this comment. I would also add- This conflict between the characters also embodies to me a difference between medieval and modern ways of combat. On one hand you have a very individually driven system of combat and method. Emotions are incredibly important and driving to attain power and win victory. You lead directly, not simply through plans. On the other hand, you have an absolutely systematic method of combat, leadership, and warfare. Individuals are meaningless, only the plan, following through with the plan, and waging as much death and destruction as possible. You have to "win", and that is all. Oddly enough, objectively, the former won. i.e. if bullets actually blew brains out.

To anyone pointing a finger and saying “this is our song against them”, actually read the lyrics. This person has fought against what they perceive is wrong, but realizes by the end that they became worse than what they fought against and landed themselves and the people around them into despair.

This anime is criminally underated. Aldnoah Zero was one of the first anime series I watched, and I enjoyed every second of it. I get that the second season's ending was far from perfect but that doesn't invalidate the entire series that was leading up to that.

OK first off, the lyrics to this song.. If you've seen the direct translation then you'll know this song is literal word-vomit in several different languages... I decided to save my sanity and stray from the translations in those parts (choruses), deciding to write my lyrics loosely based off what it sounds like they're singing in "English" in those parts. It was difficult to stay true to the translation while also making the lyrics make sense in English, but ultimately I leaned toward 'making it make sense in English' haha so I hope you can forgive me for not sticking closer to the translation! But Amanda usually going beyond just that and sonetimes changes lyric meanings altogether, which, as an english lyrics adapter myself, I personally don't like, but the central message is the same so hey, let her do what she wants. That also might be why it sounds more natural in English, but I wouldn't know since I've never seen the direct translation.

This were powerful lyrics for me. It conveyed this emotion of reluctance and yet, there is also urgency.

My thoughts exactly. Just the utter, childish reluctance to enter into waging bloodshed, but then the instant realization that it is inevitable anyways...this is one of those few songs that actually makes you step back and think, and I really admire that.
Or, turn it around. A duty, a knowledge that war is an inevitability, but seeing it for what it is, an inevitability, and hating it for that reason. A sort of "Why did it have to come to this?" mentality. Having made attempt after attempt to de-escalate the situation, but being left with war as the only option.
My favorite is “they say fight for peace, but what is that?”
This song is through the eyes of someone manipulated into fighting a war with the idea of respect, glory and honor. The beginning is them childishly willing yet nervous(the doubt of should they) to go to war then they find out what it means to be in war. The 1:19 part Is not childish reluctance but knowing the pain war brings on oneself and others and how selfish war can be that there is no true glory in it that there is no fight for peace and freedom war is a liar thats what the hate is. And the "I'll wage war" is the one who sent the soldier to war crying out wanting peace but they keep willing waging war rather than negotiation for peace thus the reason of the soldier screaming " I SAY CRIER, I SAY LIAR, I SAY RISE IN HELL" and "theres no end to this... cant you see that?" And "was this dream worth it?"

Honestly i hear a lot of people say bad things about this anime. its one the first ones i watched when i first got into anime six years ago but, it is still in my top five anime because i love the animation style i love the story too. I still get this song stuck in my head at the most random times. Honestly it is one of the reasons i got into anime. No matter how many times i watch the anime i still cry at some points in it just, because of the way it makes u get attached to the characters. p.s. to anyone new to anime don't listen to what others say about an anime before u watch it because what everyone else hates you might love.

Oh.my.god. I remember this...I listened to this in middle school. Haha, I can't believe it's been 8 years. Getting a wet in the eyes remembering listening to this during lunch on a crap laptop I kept in my backpack. Ah....don't know if you'll ever see this. But thanks for a good song for middleschool me. @Titan slayer Aldnoah Zero is one of the worst anime I've ever seen, full of unlikable characters, mindless and stupid plotlines, and a rushed and senseless ending. Its only saving grace is the amazing soundtrack. I would ramble more about the shows poor quality, but I know I've done that on multiple occasions in this comment section, so if you're curious you can look for my ramblings yourself.

There is something quite exquisite about this series.. the way it treats a particular paradox which is that Humans needs non human, detached, strategic almost robot like leadership to thrive and survive while the Vers empire who has acquired the highest level of technology only is moved and shaken by leadership that is passionately human at its core.
With his passions, uncontrolled ambition and almost mistaken sense of righteousness, Slaine strikes us as the most Human, Terran of all the characters. And the contradiction is that this very human character, whom the audience can relate with in all of his weaknesses is the most human of all the Character in this Anime series.
His devotion to the princess, his constant drive for improvement, social elevation and the acquisition of power is either a sign of consummate love or more importantly the idea of establishing equality between all social classes. Nothing is more compelling than sweetness that sours out of duty and a sense of fatality.
It's interesting that as he embraces his dark side and gives himself over to his passion, he brings unexpected inspiration and strength to the Vers team... enough to inspire them to fight until the end. Truly inspirational to see the rise of a being whose birth was destined to everlasting ridicule and social stagnation rise to the top and command the allegiance of those who grew up embracing their privileges.
On the other hand, Inaho, the hero and savior of the Terran forces is without a doubt so grounded in reality and yet so removed from all things human. Logical to a point of detachment and a strategic genius to the point of being closer to a machine, you have a sense that Inaho is too logical to ever embrace the maelstrom of human emotions. Humans who have shown a propensity to destroy, and embrace their passions are shown to only survive with the logical and often cold hand of strategy and emotional detachment. Inaho and even Darzana a captain of the earth forces and leader of the Deucallion seem to embody this way of approaching life.
This paradox is at the center of so much in the series and how the characters deal with it, is utterly compelling.

+Gerard Beaubrun Wow, that is a really good, well-written point I had never considered. I definitely loved Slaine, especially the way he was so committed to doing what he believed was right, and I really hate the ending they gave him, because I felt that he deserved better. Particularly, I liked how driven and protective he was. He had qualms about killing people, but if it was for Asseylum's sake, he would stop at nothing, which is something I can identify with. I didn't like Inaho because he was too cold and calculating, and didn't seem to care about human emotions, so I couldn't identify with him (plus he didn't get along with my favorite character), but I never thought about the juxtaposition between their two personalities, and how the human aspects (or almost lacktherof) led to the fates of their planets.
Carly Zaugg I enjoyed reading how your minds pieces things together and well you explain your appreciation for Slaine. The end seems unjust to such a character who embodies so much, that in other circumstances could be as inspirational as a Napoleon.

This conflict between the characters also embodies to me a difference between medieval and modern ways of combat.
On one hand you have a very individually driven system of combat and method. Emotions are incredibly important and driving to attain power and win victory. You lead directly, not simply through plans.
On the other hand, you have an absolutely systematic method of combat, leadership, and warfare. Individuals are meaningless, only the plan, following through with the plan, and waging as much death and destruction as possible. You have to "win", and that is all.
Oddly enough, objectively, the former won. i.e. if bullets actually blew brains out.

This anime is criminally underated. Aldnoah Zero was one of the first anime series I watched, and I enjoyed every second of it. I get that the second season's ending was far from perfect but that doesn't invalidate the entire series that was leading up to that.
