- Douglas Trumbull, a visual effects supervisor and director responsible for the fantastic imagery in such films as "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Blade Runner," died this week at the age of 79. In this online exclusive "Sunday Morning'' web producer David Morgan looks back at his legacy.

Such great visual effects, you can never deny. What movie magic he has created for all of Hollywood to see. He will be missed.
In my book, Douglas Trumbull was responsible for some of the most striking, memorable images in movie history. And the two Films he directed shouldn't be slept on, either. RIP
He was also a very kind man, my mom’s cousin
This is a sad passing of a genius. His work has always been ahead of its time. His work on "2001: A Space Odyssey" still holds up to today's standards. And his iconic work on "Glade Runner" (1982) will not be forgotten. He will be missed.

I met Doug in S.F. when he did a show about the future of cinema. I got his business card, (still in my wallet) and he got mine, for my short noir. What a special guy.

When I saw your name, I knew I was in for a visual treat.
The man was a genius. And when he first made his mark on cinema, there were no digital visual effects. He had to do all of those by hand and eye, using nothing but the camera, lighting and practical effects. His work is unforgettable and will live on for all time.
A true Icon in the Sci fi industry. Wow!!...What a legacy to leave behind!!! Thank you sir.

Why was the VO recorded so poorly? It sounds like it was recorded in an echo chamber. Just because the web producer did the piece doesn’t mean the product needs to be subpar. Up your game CBS. I’ve heard better VO work from novices that work from home. Get your web guy the equipment he needs for a polished sounding product.

I went into Subway today to get a healthy sandwich. The older lady behind the counter helped me and started preparing my sandwich for me. She out of nowhere fell to the ground and started convulsing and shaking. the other teenage girl there just stepped over her and finished up my sandwich as the lady lay on the ground shaking. The two teenage girls that work there just laughed it off and said "Oh, she does this all the time." I peeked over the counter to see the lady foaming at her mouth. I then paid for my sandwich and left the establisment.
So you killed her?
