awesome video and brought back lots of memories. My dad is in the video about 6th car in, 68 camaro earth wind and fire and my grandfather with his 57 chevy whiplash. I think I was one of the kids that went running across the track when the 70 camaro wrecked- I remember that like it was yesterday- i stund next to the trailer as the winched it up. the years at thompson have rubbed off and I now race my own 67 camaro at bradenton motorsports park in Florida. GREAT JOB! LOTS OF MEMORIES as child
"AWESOME" Film-Footage! Great to see My Uncle Bill"Maverick"Golden & his "Little Red Wagon" just-beautiful ! Great to see Hemi Under Glass too..takes me back to a toddler, when I would watch That'Black & Gold car(that I knew was the competition/the other Guy) race against my Uncle...Of course,in the beginning the H.U.G. was the Only other Wheelstander beside us...Ahh,Great-Memories, THX for the download gs1260cc, ScottyG.
I went there in 1964-64 . Saw Don Garlits with his wife sellin T-shirts out of the back of his Doge P-up . Saw Don Nickerson with the Comet Wagon racin a 64 Dart with a Hemi . Saw Doug Rose with the Green Monster . Somebody had 413 Dodge p-t with a factory stock 413 . Ran good . They charged to get in the pits back then and I would always find a way to get in . LOL FUN Days ! Not so much anymore .
my dad ran their in the 70s he ran a 69 Camaro z/28 302ci all stock low 13s in the quarter. was hoping to see it here . we have a basement full of trophies from Thompson . he also was ran on train ave in Cleveland ohio a lot we still have the Camaro it is in tennesee being restored hope to run it again someday. great video
I spent many summer weekends at the raceway when I was 13 thru 15. I would work at Dick Woodworth's farm in Madison after school and then at the Anchor Inn that my mom helped operate so I could hitch hike to Thompson on Sunday for the races. My mom made a couple of passes down the strip and my dad hated it. Such great memories from this video. Thanks for posting.
This track is still here up in northeast ohio. Out in the middle of nowhere pretty much haha. Still going strong. Every Wednesday they have pretty much open track night. You can race your buddies, and/or enter a bracket tournament. I even recognize a handful of these cars. Must have been family members keeping them running.

I’m 21, and I wish we could go back to times like these. I wish everyone was still into cars today like they were then.
I HEAR THAT!!..its because no one can work on them without a degree from NASA.

My grandfather was the no.1 racing champion at that track during the 60s.
Awesome story thanks for sharing. It was a trip down memory lane for my dad also. I remember him racing there as a kid.
