This game is so nostalgic it's painful to watch... That musty, heavenly basement that me and my brothers spend so much time in playing this game... The distance beyond the map-screen clouds that our imaginations dared to dream of... No one else will ever understand it... But as insane as this sounds...if, when I die I wake up in a one-room house to my uncle going out into a rainy night after Princess Zelda has telepathically communicated to me.... I will feel as if I've come home.
Wow didn't know about some of those timesaving maneuvers. I thought it was awesome when I noticed that you could skip going to the village and just find Sahasrala in the East, but these go beyond that.
Using the hookshot will make you invincble from all enemies, not a glitch but done by design. I imagine that it would otherwise mess up if you got hit at the same the hook laches on to something.
I really enjoyed this vid, I just replayed this game last week and got a kick out of the moonpearl trick and also killing off ganon without light arrows.... amazing!
It is far from frame perfect. You only need to be at the right pixel, which you can use a visual cue for. Then it is really simple. There are so many more tricks in the game, loads of them are lots harder than anything seen here.
@@TompaA I meant that it was something specific and I should have said it’s a trick that works on a specific spot but I always thought that this was hard thanks for telling me
I wish I would've looked this video up about a week ago when I first booted the game up. These are awesome glitches! (My personal favorite is the hook shot rendering you invincible for a second.) I just entered Ganon's Tower, hopefully I'll get to utilize a couple of these. Thanks, man.
Several of these still work on the GBA version actually. And there are also loads more glitches in the GBA version than on the SNES. If you check the RUclips channel Greenalink you can find loads of GBA glitches in his videos.
If you have a super controller and activate rapid fire on the run once you have the boots you can float over holes as long as you hold it down. There is also some crazy glitchey rooms in dungens when you float over the holes to the unreachable areas of the map and go thru the wall.
There are several speedrunners who can do the hovering without a turbo controller, simply by being really good at mashing. But yeah, there are so many more things you can do than this outdated and bad video shows =D.
surprised I didnt see the hookshot trick while moving a block like u did with the fire rod, I remember yeas ago 25 years ago I couldnt get the blue mail and I accidently discovered it.
I love the fact that you don't need the Silver Arrows in there to kill Ganon and that they would make that only easier for the Hero, this would give the Master Sword a much bigger role since that Sword is basically the most important Item in the first place
I hate using bombs to knock myself past holes/obstacles because it messes up the natural order of blocks/switches to activate. Just makes shit more confusing later when you run out of bombs. Here's a good trick for the Ice Palace- use bombos to wipe out the penguins. They always drop magic anyways. Hookshot can also kill them in a hit
@@LNC4P When the torches first go out, if you light the left one before the right goes right, it will stay lit. This does not work on the PAL version however, IIRC.
+BarrettDoesVideos Everything in this video works the same on all non-GBA releases of the game. There are however many 1.0 only glitches present in ALttP runs, just none in this video. As you can clearly see when I opened the Moon Pearl chest, this was on an English version =).
ok, i have the japanese famicom, i live in japan, but i need more info, on how to detect the 1.0 version, vs some kind of software update version please!
You could also attempt a 1.0 exclusive glitch. The easiest one I can think of is the item dash. Use an item on the same frame you start a dash, and you will dash with that item out instead of your sword. If you can do that, you have a 1.0 cart. It's relatively easy to do (you just press both buttons at the same time once you have Pegasus Boots) and doesn't take too long to try.
Real time runners end the timing when they enter the Triforce room, and start it on file select. For Tool Assisted Speedruns, it starts on powering on the game and ends with the last input needed for the Triforce text to disappear.
@AgeofEmpiresPlayer Yeah, happens when you hold up+down. Can also be done when going into a doorway to the left by holding left+right. My purpose with the video was to show stuff you can easily do in real time on console. I left all the TAS-glitches and similar out. But there's obviously a lot more to show!
Indeed, there are loads and loads of things I didn't include in this video. The Hammeryump was discovered after the making of this video anyway, thanks to a discovery I made awhile ago.

Yes, they do. This was done using the 1.0 US version, and everything will work the same in JP. Some tricks here are not really relevant to randomizer games though, like the very first text skip trick as the text doesn't exist there anymore. This video is also very outdated and there are many many more tricks that can be done. This guide for randomizers is very good for example: docs.google.com/document/d/1cio22fU4_cEsMcHN0I1KceUzB5P1aFgB7dOBrZuwRHU/edit
Normall you need to go through the entire dungeon to get the Big Key, backtrack to hit a crystal switch and go all the way around the dungeon again before you can drop down to the boss.
@Sam Pepper Under normal circumstances, the hole at 2:31 is blocked by the blue crystal switch blocks. The only switch in the dungeon requires you to get the Big Key and go through door above where the hole is. With the bomb boost, you can skip having to lower the red blocks, so that the blue ones will stay lowered instead and thus being able to push the blocks and go down the hole.
No way?! What I show there is that you can skip the cutscene where the boy disappears and all the animals run away. Which also messes up the sound in the Dark World.
Good video for showing shortcuts, but having a commentary track would’ve really helped explain what he was doing in some places. In a couple shots, was Link just leaving and re-entering rooms just to reset the enemies?
This was just a lazy video I did long back, I didn't really expect it to turn out to be this popular, it's also quite outdated strategies and such as well. The description has explanation on what's going on. The first clip I re-enter to show that you can skip the text at the start of the room by just holding right. That's the only clip where I did this, so I'm not sure where you get the other "couple of shots" from? But yeah, this is old and bad. You could go here for additional info instead: alttp-wiki.net/index.php/Main_Page
Tompa A Thanks. I’ll definitely check that one out too. I didn’t notice the details in the description until after I had posted. 🙄 I think point 8 I was one of the shots I was referring to, where you were pushing blocks and shooting the flames at the same time.
I laughed so hard when he did the bomb jump maneuver to get to the treasure chest. If I had known there was such a simple solution when I was a kid...
I changed the patterns of pits fell from 5F
so basically bomb = jump

Tompa A 😂😂
More like bomb > jump
The best thing about this video is it taught me new stuff when I've pretty much kicked this game's ass already
Sometimes when you grab a heart with your hookshot you recover two hearts instead.
4:16 ... the Hook shot dodged the rolling thorn bars?!😶

I always wondered about the world beyond as well

Been doing glitches for a while - although last play I jumped out at Argahnim, beat him, then got stuck in the Dark World - no mirror lol

Omg falling to get to the door faster after lighting the lamps, brilliant ! Wish I thought of that 😩 + 5:02 very badass
One glitch i found: when the fire bar thing is moving around, use the hookshot to avoid being damaged just before it hits you.

welllll my new hero
