Going through an awful breakup right now and this is exactly what I need, thank you for always being a shining light and so damn funny in all your videos
we call them baked potatoes here in Holly Jackson's guntopia America lol and they are a very popular element of Americana cuisine. And speaking of Holly Jackson and the UK vs the US, i desperately want to listen to the UK recording of the audiobook of a good girl's guide to murder, but I can only get the americanized version here in the US, and it makes me sad. like it's insulting to both brits and americans to think you need to us-ize a book for us to read it
Baked potatoes and jacket potatoes are a little different. Baked potatoes usually have things like cheese, bacon, sour cream, chives whereas jacket potatoes have like baked beans and tuna on them. As an American, our baked potatoes are superior.
@@satinsleeves Idk where you heard that lol but as a brit, jacket potato is just the more popular name for a baked potato (though some of us do still call it that). It can be totally plain, have tuna or baked beans, have cheese and bacon, etc.. In the US there might be a difference, but for us there really isn't so the only difference between US potatoes and UK baked potatoes is where they are. The only reason baked beans and tuna are more popular over here on bakies is because, firstly, they're pretty widely accessible and being tinned they're good foods for last-minute dinners since they're always about and, secondly, because they're decently plain so often families make them since it's pretty safe and mostly healthy to feed kids!!
@@satinsleeves Baked beans and tuna?? I'm glad my jacket potato encounter didn't involve that! I ordered one after figuring out it was essentially a baked potato, and when she asked what I wanted on it, I asked for butter and sour cream. And I had to explain sour cream to her. She finally decided I must mean salad cream. Talk about an absolute disaster of a meal. But at least it wasn't tuna and baked beans.
Same here, I want to read the original setup version. I live in CT, in the general area where she set her Americanized version (the main town is fictionalized, but she references neighboring towns, such as New Canaan, which are absolutely real). And even though I enjoyed her using our little corner of the woods for that, I was also very amused at the inconsistencies and the lack of knowledge about this area. She mentions the kids biking or walking - even though we are 1 H away by train from NYC, this is a very wooded hilly area, with lots of old roads full of curbs and with a stringent lack of sidewalks. Kids rarely bike far away because it’s dangerous. They definitely don’t sneak around properties that much, especially in the middle of the night. They mostly drive everywhere or are driven. Even very wealthy towns have little to no public lights on side roads and it’s very dark around here, considering all their sneaking and co. I loved the book, but again, they should have allowed us to enjoy the original.
My takeaway on Romantasy is, if it's labeled that, I should avoid it. I've had much better luck with fantasy romances. (Okay, mainly one series, though I'm sure I've read others in the past.)
Murder Road felt more like another book by Simone St. James called The Haunting of Maddy Clare than the more recent books by her. My favorite by her is The Sun Down Motel.
you’re so right about the more you think about Rachel price the lower your rating goes 😭 I gave it a 3 on Goodreads but over time it’s definitely more of a 2.5 star book. Completely agree as well about not much of the book making sense…when the big reveal happened I really struggled to understand that person’s motive for what they did and similarly all the other characters behaviours aren’t super logical?
dude i’m watching you read these books and waiting for the romantasy and when you got to the penultimate one i was like “oh she’s putting it off till the very end. valid”
I'm so sad that you didn't love the memoir! I listened to it on audio earlier this year and I thought it was incredible. I feel like we got such a different Ru than we see on the show.
Hi, you inspired me to make a booktube cause I love you channel so much. Even though I typically disagree with your ratings, still love watching you cause of your personality. ❤
so a Fate Inked in Blood was the guild book club pick for two guilds in magical readathon and my guild I think I saw maybe 10% of people actively enjoy it lol. most said it was very meh so you're not missing out on much lol
As a person who loves romantasy, I was also horrifically bored reading A Fate Inked in Blood. And I found the "twist" predictable? Or not even predictable, but like... maybe if that had been a third of the way in, then that would have been much better.
I'm very glad that you enjoyed The Women. I gave it five stars but I know a lot of former military people and some of what happened hit me hard. Knowing they went through some very similar things.
Americans eat jacket potatoes, they just call them baked potatoes and are easily confused by British-isms. They don't tend to eat them with beans or tuna though.
I kind of think when the moon hatched might be your vibe because it has very flowery descriptive writing. However, you could also hate it because you didnt like Emily wilde… idk i think you should try it. I wanna see 😅 you fumbled the bag by not choosing Annie Bot though 👀
I hope they keep the romantasy category around because i want them to stay separate 😂 obviously theres overlap, but i feel like people read fantasy vs romantasy for different reasons/are different demographics. an author winning so many years in a row when people arent even into it for the fantasy? not it imo also for a fate inked in blood - im a diehard bridge kingdom fan and i also thought fate inked was boring. the characters are so flat!
Have you read the great Alone by Kristin Hannah? It's definitely worth a read but I definitely feel what you're saying about the Women in that it was just such a solid 4, like so gripping and I loved the experience of reading it but a lot of little niggles and annoyances that I couldn't overlook to make it a 5
My good woman, you do not have to trust the opinions of those on Goodreads (who are they? how many would you sit down & have a cup of tea with). I buy based on newspaper reviews & also suggestions from worthy bookshops. I have hundreds of books here, many I have yet to read ... 4 Ikea Billy bookcases three of which are double stacked ... waiting on an order today from Blackwells & one from Edinburgh University Press ...
I'm worried about your rating average if you're gonna read the GR top 20 😂 I'm crossing my fingers that you find your next 5 star soon, could need one as well! 😊
i would suggest you to google for the ministry of time controversy - plagiarism is the least unhinged part of everything surrounding that book and author
Wait “the Ministry of Time” is about a ministry of the government that time travels right? So basically the author stole the idea from a Spanish tv show that aired from 2015 to 2020?
Going through an awful breakup right now and this is exactly what I need, thank you for always being a shining light and so damn funny in all your videos
I'm sorry you are going through that, take care of yourself ❤ things will get better
Hey, I know how you feel and I’m so sorry. Time will help you heal even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. There’s so much good to come 🫶🏻
Sending hugs 🫂 x

@@skeletonkeybookswe have sour cream here? So that woman was just dumb, we don’t normally have it on jacket potatoes but we have it.

no but why do all the romantasy covers literally look the same 😭😭 i swear even the names are similar
My takeaway on Romantasy is, if it's labeled that, I should avoid it.
I've had much better luck with fantasy romances. (Okay, mainly one series, though I'm sure I've read others in the past.)
Aren't jacket potatoes just baked potatoes?
yes, pretty much
Yep, in the UK people call them either name 😊
We do have jacket potatoes often! We just call them loaded potatoes or twice baked potatoes!
Murder Road felt more like another book by Simone St. James called The Haunting of Maddy Clare than the more recent books by her. My favorite by her is The Sun Down Motel.
I LOVED THE WOMEN!! it was my first Kristin Hannah and i've just been slowly going through her books and love them all!!
This video got funnier with each clip. You were putting yourself through it in this one 😂
Can we just talk about the fact that you are unbothered by creepy doors that open by themselves?
you’re so right about the more you think about Rachel price the lower your rating goes 😭 I gave it a 3 on Goodreads but over time it’s definitely more of a 2.5 star book. "The sooner romantasy gets cut" girl, same.
dude i’m watching you read these books and waiting for the romantasy and when you got to the penultimate one i was like “oh she’s putting it off till the very end. valid”
It might be 11 PM but I am sat and ready to watch!
A fun video, Meg, thank you!!! Love your candor and honesty -- so important in a booktube channel.
I'm so sad that you didn't love the memoir! I listened to it on audio earlier this year and I thought it was incredible. I feel like we got such a different Ru than we see on the show.

Your shelves are so aesthetic and colorful
Yes, yes, yes RE Murder Road. My favorite from her is The Sun Down Motel.
so a Fate Inked in Blood was the guild book club pick for two guilds in magical readathon and my guild I think I saw maybe 10% of people actively enjoy it lol. most said it was very meh so you're not missing out on much lol
I’m sooo curious about The Ministry of Time 👀 I think it sounds so interesting!
You described my feelings about The Reappearance of Rachel Price perfectly; kept reading, wasn’t sure it was actually good 😂
As a person who loves romantasy, I was also horrifically bored reading A Fate Inked in Blood. And I found the "twist" predictable? Or not even predictable, but like... maybe if that had been a third of the way in, then that would have been much better.
i lovee the colourful striped sweater!!
Proud of you for dnfing that last book 🫶🏼
I thought Ministry of Time was just a lot of fun! I read it after a lot of DNFs so it was great to pick up something that made me laugh.
27:04 I loved the Rachel Price book, it was a fun read
I'm very glad that you enjoyed The Women. I gave it five stars but I know a lot of former military people and some of what happened hit me hard. Knowing they went through some very similar things.
You need to read sun down motel it’s the best by far of her books
Americans eat jacket potatoes, they just call them baked potatoes and are easily confused by British-isms. They don't tend to eat them with beans or tuna though.
Even from romantasy readers I’ve seen very meh reviews of a fate inked in blood.
I felt the same about Murder Road. Really fast to read but not what I expect from her - quality wise.
Fave you read Defending Jacob. It’s my all time favorite murder mystery
I don’t think I could read it, due to the subject matter 😢
I kind of think when the moon hatched might be your vibe because it has very flowery descriptive writing. However, you could also hate it because you didnt like Emily wilde… idk i think you should try it. I wanna see 😅 you fumbled the bag by not choosing Annie Bot though 👀
Megan you need to start using your library if you can especially if you may not like the books
That jacket potato tangent was great
I hope they keep the romantasy category around because i want them to stay separate 😂 obviously theres overlap, but i feel like people read fantasy vs romantasy for different reasons/are different demographics. an author winning so many years in a row when people arent even into it for the fantasy? not it imo

Why is Bride not in Romantasy? 🧐
Goodread does not know how to categorize books
Bride is definitely more paranormal romance instead of straight up romantasy, so that might be why
I felt the same about Rachel Price.
Could you share a link to that spreadsheet template, please? 🙏

I read all the words in A Fate Inked In Blood, and didnt enjoy any of them either. Should have DNF'd. Thanks for the fun video!!
I loved this vlog !! 😍 I think if u don’t like romantasy just don’t read it 😅
I LOVE THIS VIDEO
I cant find this list on goodreads could someone link it?
I love Baked Potatoes aka Jack of Potatoes :D
I DNF that book too. It was drudgery to try and read.
Love that edition of murder road where is it from please 😊
I found ministry of time so boring 😭
It was everything I like on paper but I think the writing style and plot didn't do it for me, sadly..
I am a Scandinavian romantasy girly and I absolutely HATED a fate inked in blood, boring, predictable, and poorly researched tbh
i really struggled with the main character in rachel price all their reactions were so odd!!
a fate inked in blood also didn't work for me. I was so bored and did DNF
Girl don’t ever read Tempest of Tea, such a let down. On the other hand, Heartless Hunter is one of my fave reads of the year so far
High five, I've seen fjords too 🤣
Did I just stop the video to ogle at your spreadsheet? I did.
💗💗
Early squad!
i would suggest you to google for the ministry of time controversy - plagiarism is the least unhinged part of everything surrounding that book and author
What else than potential plagiarism is there? Could only find that and even there I'm not so sure about it
Oh please
Wait “the Ministry of Time” is about a ministry of the government that time travels right? So basically the author stole the idea from a Spanish tv show that aired from 2015 to 2020?
😂 Ideas aren't usually copyrighted. Tons of things resemble other things in media.
