  • Howzit, Got some awesome footage from my fish cam from a dunking session mid May 2023. We started before sunrise and the action would pick up early on. Hooked up and threw in a Rainbow Wrasse Hinalea that my daughter caught using floater rig. Not more than 10 seconds after casted out and a flurry of action occurs as the Hinalea tries to escape a savage Tako(octopus) and some good size yellow spotted Papios. As I slow down the footage however it becomes apparent that the tako was interested in my 4oz egg lead sinker and not the hinalea. The papios seem to take interest in the Tako but I think was too big for them to try chomp off any legs. When I brought the line back in the hinalea was still alive and good to go, so it was released back to the ocean. If using live fish, I try to hook them where it'll be hard to come off unless bitten off, but also where if no takers then the fish will live still but maybe small kine sore and I can release em to fight another day. We had an action packed day--must've hit a school of Nenue cuz between the 3 of us(me, my brother, & my youngest) pulled in about 7 at least and one legal size Papio, but we only kept 3 nenue and the papio and set the others free---Nenue good fight but not my favorite eating fish. This was the first time I'm narrating a vid so sorry if sound kinda lolo. Shout out to my wife for letting me go on these all day fishing sessions and bearing with me through the video editing process(takes fricken long!!). If you guys like the vid please like and subscribe to the channel--comments are welcome too. As always Good Luck and Aloha!!

Howzit Steven-thanks for watching, but yeah it is and you wouldn’t believe how much footage I have from my fish cam of papios swimming all around my bait, come close but don’t bite-and I use all kinds of bait-ika, shrimp, live bait, tako leg, aku belly-I gotta get some oama soon, but sometimes I think they just aren’t hungry…I hook up papios on my other poles, but haven’t had one yet on the fish cam line… maybe the cam makes them nervous. I have other vids coming out soon with other stuff that did bite though. stay tuned…Aloha

Great video. Love the go fish cam. How do you setup your rig with the cam so you don’t lose it?

@@808dno howzit dno3221, thanks for watching. So the pole that I cast out the fish cam with I have 80 pound test main line on. The leaders for the hooks and weight are ALWAYS at least 20 pounds lighter test or below. That way if I hook something massive(wishful thinking lol)or snag the leaders will break before I lose the camera. But some times it does snag and I just don’t trust it-I put on my diving gear and and get it-and when I am diving back to shore I can look for tako or broken off lead weights. Aloha!

Howzit, thanks for watching. Yeah that’s the main reason I started the channel was to show fellow fishermen what’s going on under the water… I like to try different rigs and and baits and see what works.. glad it helps-Good luck and Aloha

What type of rig do you use when fishing this type of flat area? Longer hook line, short lead line? Also when fishing rocky areas whats the best rig for that type of fishing. Love the videos Mahalos!!🤙🏽🤙🏽

Howzit 808bum, thanks for watching-I’m no expert fyi but to me it all depends. Normally if there’s a rocky type reef maybe go short hook line, longer lead line. But I think the angle of your mainline in relation to the ground will factor in the equation. If it’s a gradual drop from shore then either way your hook line gonna be dragging on the ground-more chance of snag or crabs to grind em. If deeper drop off closer to shore like say off a jetti or like Makua side than for sure short hook line long lead line. And then you factor in what species you tryna target-for example:bottom feeders like oio or goats you would probably want to use a long hook line and short lead line-drop em in the sand patches in between reef section….hope this helps! As always Good luck and Aloha 🤙🏽
