I'm only 27 but I am also so grateful that I was able to be the last generation to at least have a childhood without all this crap. Had my first flip phone at 15 and my first smartphone at 18 (100% by choice, my parents wouldn't have got me one anyway but I never asked for one either), and I've never had any social media accounts except youtube, linkedin and quora. Don't get me wrong, plenty of people in my generation made the choice to get addicted to this crap as teenagers too, but at the very least we had a choice, not being bombarded with it from birth. Personally, I chose to reject it all, and I can't say I have many regrets about it. Even today it's a running joke among my friends that it's damn near impossible to get hold of me, sometimes I don't switch my phone on for a week or more unless it's an emergency.

I believe the decline started in the late 90s with the mass production of reality TV. From about 1996 onwards. I personally put the date at August 1996 when the Spice Girls exploded onto the music scene. They were the first manufactured world wide phenomenon pop act. I know there were others before, New Kids on the Block, New Edition and Take That, but none had the impact that the Slice Girls did. It was the start of the rot. Manufactured pop and reality TV started to take over. But the true narcissists wouldn't be revealed until the mass adoption of smartphones, combined with new social media apps around 2010. I remember using Facebook around 2007 on a computer and it was actually not bad. Nobody had access to the platforms 24/7 so people only posted what was relevant. But when the smartphone started its mass adoption around 2010, things started to go bad very quickly. Now we have children who will be graduating soon who have no memories of a time without smartphones and social media. I'm pretty sure that even the people in their early 20s have no idea about another time. It's a sad world and it needs to change.

Some years ago she made a song about how the current youtubers (aside from her ofcours) were ruining a generation of kids and mind you this was before tiktok. I was at a concert from 30 Seconds to Mars last week. A lot of people watched literally the whole concert through their phone just filming themselves and the show non-stop instead of just enjoying the show.

That’s why I value reading and journaling. I use social media to promote my art but not my personal life. I enjoy living in the moment and have stories to tell. No one will have any stories because they spend too much time on social media.

When I was a kid, I watched people like Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Dionne Warwick and Celine Dion become famous through sheer skill and talent. Getting old has its disadvantages, but when I see what these young people are living with now, I thank God I grew up long before social media hit the scene.
I'm only 27 but I am also so grateful that I was able to be the last generation to at least have a childhood without all this crap. Had my first flip phone at 15 and my first smartphone at 18 (100% by choice, my parents wouldn't have got me one anyway but I never asked for one either), and I've never had any social media accounts except youtube, linkedin and quora. Don't get me wrong, plenty of people in my generation made the choice to get addicted to this crap as teenagers too, but at the very least we had a choice, not being bombarded with it from birth. Personally, I chose to reject it all, and I can't say I have many regrets about it. Even today it's a running joke among my friends that it's damn near impossible to get hold of me, sometimes I don't switch my phone on for a week or more unless it's an emergency.

I believe the decline started in the late 90s with the mass production of reality TV. From about 1996 onwards. I personally put the date at August 1996 when the Spice Girls exploded onto the music scene.
They were the first manufactured world wide phenomenon pop act. I know there were others before, New Kids on the Block, New Edition and Take That, but none had the impact that the Slice Girls did.
It was the start of the rot.
Manufactured pop and reality TV started to take over.
But the true narcissists wouldn't be revealed until the mass adoption of smartphones, combined with new social media apps around 2010.
I remember using Facebook around 2007 on a computer and it was actually not bad. Nobody had access to the platforms 24/7 so people only posted what was relevant.
But when the smartphone started its mass adoption around 2010, things started to go bad very quickly.
Now we have children who will be graduating soon who have no memories of a time without smartphones and social media. I'm pretty sure that even the people in their early 20s have no idea about another time.
It's a sad world and it needs to change.

She's Andra Gogan , has a romanian youtube channel with the same name and isn't the most liked person amoung romanian youtubers. Some years ago she made a song about how the current youtubers (aside from her ofcours) were ruining a generation of kids and mind you this was before tiktok. I think she had a bit of a boost in youtube because she also used to (or still is) voiceacting in romanian dubs for disney so kids gathered quickly to her channel.
But as I said , she isn't the most liked in Romania and has had more conflicts with other youtubers than I was able to recall , she's just another one of those that make content that is trending here or in America and has a young audience , I am not surprised that she made her way into Joey's video.

That’s why I value my privacy even more nowadays. It’s too much accessibility now especially with social media. A lot of people portray happy online but are miserable in real life. I see it everyday. That’s why I value reading and journaling. I use social media to promote my art but not my personal life. I enjoy living in the moment and have stories to tell. No one will have any stories because they spend too much time on social media.

When I was a kid, I watched people like Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Dionne Warwick and Celine Dion become famous through sheer skill and talent. They inspired me to spend 20 years training to be a professional musician. By the time I was done, no venues were hiring anymore and now the world celebrates narcissistic morons instead. The only relevant "musicians" without financial backing now are only relevant for posting self-deprecating comedy videos of themselves on social media or resorting to eating insane amounts of food for attention.
