I remember my biggest culture shock happened when I first visited Japan. Coming from a more casual and expressive culture, I was completely taken aback by how deeply ingrained politeness and respect are in every interaction there. For example, the bowing culture was something I wasn’t used to-I wasn’t sure how low to bow or when to stop, and it felt so formal at first. Another thing that stood out was how quiet people were on public transport. I’m used to hearing conversations, phone calls, or even music in public spaces, but in Japan, everyone was so respectful of others’ space-it almost felt eerie to me at first. Over time, though, I came to really admire and appreciate these subtle cultural differences. It taught me a lot about mindfulness and respecting shared environments!

@@luluanderson-t6j Well, for starters the food. Good lord was it hard to get used to. The way people talked was different, speeds in cars were different, the hospitality of people are way different. I've met a lot of unsavory people since living here. Pretty much everything is different. I miss the food I used to eat back in Mississippi a lot tbh. The schooling was different, the economy is different, the wages I get now vs when I was there are different too.

You have to be careful when you set expectations. My parents were total a holes about me getting b's in hig school, so when i failed a class in college i thought they were going to disown me...they didnt, but i cant replace those days of hiding it with my bp sitting st 300/250...

I hablve thise expectations of my kids. I encourage them to meet them, by telling them they CAN do it. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they fail. When they fail, they fail. My response depends. If they were saying they cant they cant they cant, then fail, I tell them its because they didnt truly believe they could. Every time they have told me they didnt truly believe it. If they dont, and they jisr fail, you tried. You didnt do it this time, but doesnt mean you cant do it. Things happen, but you TRIED!
