And when you put them in an environment with super plush things where they can mash their face against it, or if you put them to sleep on their stomach since their neck can't support the weight of the head to turn if they get in the wrong position, they can suffocate themselves. If their head is tilted downwards too much due again to super soft bedding or the angle of various rockers/nappers, that can cut off their breathing as well. It's also why experts recommend not co-sleeping since if you roll and block the baby's airways just a little it can kill them too. It doesn't even have to be full on rolling on top of them. While some of these deaths can be easily determined, some cannot. There is the possibility of heart failure or brain issues or lungs just quit even without outside influence so that's why it's sometimes unknown. Babies are fragile. But the number of SIDS cases have dropped a lot in the US if I remember correctly, and that could very possibly be because parents are making sure to negate any possibility of an unsafe environment where the child sleeps. Also glass bottles are made with tempered glass now so they're harder to break. Also when heating milk in a glass bottle I don't have to worry about chemicals seeping into the milk like I do with plastic.
