EPISODE 2: THE CULT OF SANTA MUERTE
Watch Episode 1: The Ritual Killings: Mass Graves, Cartel Secrets & Cover-ups: The True Story of the Juarez Murders • The Ritual Killings: M...
On the southern border, there is a legal concept known as “reasonable fear.” If an asylum officer determines that a migrant has a “reasonable fear of persecution or torture” if returned to their home country, then removal procedures can be delayed. And, in the current border crisis, there’s been no greater source of “reasonable fear” cases than the Mexican drug cartels and organized crime.
In each episode we take a deep dive into the border crisis to find the primary players behind the violence, the scope of these transnational criminal enterprises, and the state of the narco wars.
In this episode, host Vince ‘Rocoo’ Vargas, takes a deep dive into the Santa Muerte religious movement.

Combatants the world over develop a twisted relationship with death, that manifests in a form of 'death/protection worship.' There are a number of Santa Muerte adherents on the law enforcement/military side of the equation in Mexico as well.
Bri u aint kno shi3tt. Not dying from a battle in ur 20s is a modern thing.
@@brrr00007 Ok troll.
The falangists battle cry was ‘viva la muerte’, the Germans wore the totenkopf(so did the Savoyeans since the Middle Ages). A modern example of death worship/glorification can be seen in the Azov bataillion s’ funerary rites.
Amazing how Ghost Recon Wildlands featured this before it popped up on other people's radar
Watching this makes me want to go back and play it. 😂😂😂
Hmm true but maybe the game got the idea from the cult that already existed for sometime. See, I remember when I was a kid the Mexican store would sell candles with the grim reaper on it; aka “Santa Muerte”. This is nothing new. The movement might even go back to pre-Spanish Mexico, Aztec times. Kinda like how hoodoo exists.
@enriqueavila1463 the people who helped write for Ghost Recon Wildlands did their research.
Okay ironclad the small TV thing in the middle of the screen just ain’t it make it bigger or something we tired of zooming in and out to see what the heck your even talking about…. Whoever idea that was needs to be fired

Great episode! I remember the episode of Breaking Bad that had them crawling to the altar to worship her. It feels very close to worshipping Satan. I saw a documentary a long time ago about miners in South America worshipping "Tio", the god of the underworld, to protect them. It's concerning that so many people are practicing these dark religions.
Ghost Recon Wildlands tried to warn you
lol what? its military & cia propaganda, damn fun game though!

More civilians venerate her than cartels. Cartels tend to practice voodoo, Santeria and yoruba. Yoruba originated in ancient Nigeria
No wonder their country is how it is.
@@Squishysforbreakfast their economy is actually doing better now than ever before and from what I've seen lady death doesn't command you to kill people, they still believe in Jesus Christ but they also treat death like a saint.
Also these religions SOME cartel members adopted don't call for violence but they do worship ancestors and believe in reincarnation while still believing in Christ. I don't know how that works, maybe they've created a hybrid religion between the two (Christianity and Yoruba).

Respecting death is one thing but idolizing it is something I’ll never understand
That dalton guy was very apologetic! ...almost that same "there is no such thing as antifa" argument.
@@CaalamusTube Yeah, utterly blasphemous tbh.
Holy = Life
Sins = Death
My understanding is that they respect and idolize death because we're all going to meet her at some point. Most of her followers just want protection, money opportunities or lovers.
@@Sosa081Speak for yourself, I talk with a lot of mi familia, they don't worship her per say. They venerate her much in the same way they venerate La Virgin de Guadalupe or other saints. Mexico just has a culture very different compared to America (Almost like they originate from very different groups of people). They explained to me, if you want to be comfortable in life, then don't fear death as that's how you're meeting Your maker anyway. ( Wake up Christians! You have to die to get to heaven anyway so why are we trying to discriminate against each other
Me and my gf have been a devotee for a couple years now. What she has done for me and my gf is justice and protection through difficult times that me and her went through. We don’t do anything bad it’s all how you want to want them to work. Respect her!

When a group like the Romans attempts to absorb entire cultures, this is what happens. Celtic religious fusion art mixes Celtic tribal symbolism using Christian iconography like a palimpsest. Santa muerta seems like the preservation of the significance of a Doula. Basically a tribes medicine women/ mid-wife. She's not the grim reaper. She's more like mother nature. Jordan Peterson would describe this version as the devouring mother. A mother who loves you no matter what you do so long as you adore her above all other's. The sacred feminine is already occulted inside of Catholicism, but they valued the submission nurturing aspects of that, where as the tribal versions appreciate the duality of nature version which can also feel cruel and unforgiving. Most people in Western societies haven't had to suffer the elements and live outside in so long they forget until there's a natural disaster that we are primal animal's, and that tribalism is a means to survive in an unforgiving world. They know that makes sense but they have no actual sense of what it means.
Mexican culture in general treats all of their deceased relatives with the same reverence as a Catholic would any of the saints. The day of the dead is part of that celebration. If I had to guess as to what the significance of the cartel's not leaving a body for the family to bury is on a cultural level it's to emphasize their control over your life and death, eternally. That hits different in Mexican culture than it does in the states where we've had milk carton kid's for decades and the general population could seemingly care less.
In some tribal cultures when a family member dies, they are basically mummified and brought home to be available for everyone to be able to come and speak with them and air out their grievances for weeks, months, how ever long it takes for everyone to feel like they have let go all of their negative emotions related to the person's memory, before they are given a burial. That way when they talk about that person in their stories within their tribe there is only positive things said and that person can rest peacefully in the afterlife.
Sante Muerta by itself isn't a bad thing... Just like any religion or belief system, corrupt people will use it to influence believer's to their own ends.
The Catholic Church is a perfect example of that. They allegedly no longer offer indulgences as part of their religion... But all the scandals they've had with the priesthood and how they handled that, would indicate otherwise.
You can give a psychopath or a megalomaniac any set of tools and they will figure out the best way to use it to control their victims. That isn't the belief systems fault, it's an aspect of humanity. Some people's religion is politics. Arguably the most successful religion in western society. Politicians are frequently treated like saints and worshipped enjoying life time appointments like a priest, who gets paid better. 😬
I don't know how many people here have seen the video of a female human trafficker for the cartel acting like she was possessed by what the unaware would characterize as a demon. But what I saw in that video was a female using the fear of the potential eternal damnation as prescribed within the beliefs I just typed about, as an additional means of control of groups of migrants who would out number the smugglers 10 to one. You need more than the threat of physical violence to control a group of people under duress like that or they'd just turn on their smugglers. She's like the undertaker, not the literal one, the pro wrestler. Some people know pro wrestling is an act but enjoy it anyway, some people believe it's 100% real. Either way both know that the violence and threat of physical harm is absolutely real. It's that little extra control over the world view that gives those smugglers an advantage when dealing with a large group of migrants.
It's just an observation, take it or leave it. But if you're paying attention we have the same problems here, where two people tried to shoot a former president in less than a month, and the people currently in control of the executive branch did seemingly nothing to mitigate the problem until the majority of people agreed that was wrong, regardless of their political beliefs.
The part of the that group of migrants who are genuinely afraid of spiritual consequences for betraying their captures makes them just as likely to go after a member of the group who is trying to organize a mutiny as the smugglers themselves. Kinda like Stockholm syndrome, but different. 🤔

Hi I'm from Australia and I love Santa Muerte ever since she entered my life my life has gotten so much better I'm so grateful to have her in my life she is a loving mother to me may the boneone bless you 💀💀💀🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Post 2001?! My guy this been going on far longer then that.
The Santa Muerte belief reminds me of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. It’s important to live every day like it’s your last. Death is simply like a transformation, and knowing this taught me to be really grateful when times were difficult. My grandpa has a booklet on a Catholic prayer for la Santa Muerte. It’s something you do several times a day, and it surprised me how religious and official the pamphlet was. I was surprised; at first glance worshipping death looked like some Satanic black magic destructo-cult or something. Nope, The Catholic Church has this with them somehow too. I’m like, learning about my own culture and religion right now, it’s neat.
From ripping hearts out thousands years ago not much has changed.
And they will know the power of belief. The importance of the soul and the psyche
Looking forward to this episode.
The spiritual war is real, in our faces, and the sidelines are evaporating under our very feet. The silver lining: the rise in evil have led many of us to Christ, and confronting the evil within.
The interview view a TV that’s frame in smaller really sucks. Whoever made that creative decision, please don’t do it again it’s really distracting. I understand the video quality is low, it’s okay, we’d rather deal with that.
I think they chill in my complex all day.

A bit surprised that you didn't cover Adolfo Constanzo. How can you cover cult activity without actually addressing the occult activities connected to it?
Awesome to see we make everyone with a spiritual belief lumped together and made to look dangerous and evil. Reminds me of this German group from the 1930s and 40s.

We may have a chance at changing the world if we produced videos on ACTUAL saints. But no, we go into 30 minutes on devilish mythological characters. Disappointed tbh.
