As a Dallas fan, I’m so pleasantly surprised. Mavs literally fixed their center rotation issues after so many years finally with Gafford to backup/split minutes with Lively and got a better wing in PJ after it didn’t work out with Grant, all while keeping Green and the other young guys. All of that with them also being one of the top teams trying to get Dinwiddie in the buyout market supposedly makes me very happy and stoked. I know some of the pick stuff we did might not be ideal, but it’s obvious our FO is trying to win, so they’re going for it.

I think a lot of people will look at the Pacers and think they lost. But I don’t think so. Buddy is more valuable to the sixers than he is to the Pacers. A non Pacers watcher wouldn’t be able to tell, but Buddy is a lot worse than he was last season. Yes he shoots 38% but I could count on one hand the number of great shooting performances he’s had this year. Pretty sure he only has the 6th best 3P% on the team. Lots of times he shoots himself off the floor. And is a total defensive liability that gets us killed. Additionally he’s a player that wants to start or at least be a 6th man. And if he wasn’t shooting well for us (most nights) we’d play other guards over him. Plus they didn’t plan on resigning him. So they basically cleared cap space in the off-season for an addition by subtraction move. Doug McDermott will be more comfortable in a smaller role, is shooting 44% from 3 (!!!), and Hali will give his game a boost. Ideal Buddy replacement imo.

I’m not saying anything you said was wrong, but he’s one of the best shooters of this generation. It’s not like he was a once freak athlete who got old and started slowing down. He’s a shooter. He’s in a shooting slump. It’s not a skill that just disappears. It’s not a matter of opinion or even a question, he’s going to get his rhythm back eventually. Trading somebody like that because they’re having a bad start to the season is kinda odd, but I can understand. Especially with his contract, I get it. Trading him to a team you’ll likely see in the playoffs is downright braindead though. He’s a shooter and shooters get in slumps sometimes. Once he finds his shot again, which he will, this trade won’t look as good basketball-wise.

I don’t understand the DET hate at all for this deadline. Obv their FO is dog water, Monty is crazy, etc…but they couldn’t just keeping bringing back 35yo Bojan back every year and relying on him to create shots. Fontecchio is a 6’8 shooter, smart, can play the 3 which DET lacks badly. They just need actual NBA players lol, and he’s cheap (RFA this summer, shouldn’t be expensive to re sign) has size and can shoot.
Idk what delusional ppl thought DET was gonna get QG for Burks straight up, let alone also get two seconds lol. PHI called DET about Burks, and I assume the offer was something like hey take Marcus Morris for Burks bc it’ll save us 6M & get us out of the tax, and we’ll give you a couple seconds. Like he didn’t have high value on an expiring. I did not hear a single word about anyone coming with a 1st for Bojan. They should’ve moved him last deadline or w/e obv when he had good value, but he was prolly in the few seconds type of range rn…or a premium 2nd or two. So close to 1st round value, but not quite.
QG IMO had first round value. He has this year and next super cheap, then RFA. He’s like 6’5, has been 38% 3P on pretty good volume, and can defend. He’s also 23yo. DET badly needs guys who can shoot and have some size/can be not terrible on defense. Bojan and Burks for QG & a couple seconds made sense to me. It’s like Bojan is almost FRP value, especially for the right team, Burks is worth a cpl seconds, QG has FRP value. So the math works out there and I think both teams got what they wanted. I know two teams can never both benefit from a trade, but maybe that’s what happened.
DET waived Killian so Monty can’t play him anymore. Ivey went beast mode last night or w/e. Adding QG/Simone and TBJr adds 3 guys who are 6’5-6’8, can shoot 3s, and are wings/Fs. Not a glamorous trade deadline, but a solid one, and at least they didn’t trade for LaVine 😂

I mean I think LAL had that offer of DLo+’29 1st+’28 swap+JHS for him. And I’m sure there would’ve been a 3rd team to take on DLo for the expiring.
So it’s okay well Trae and Dejounte don’t fit, you’re gonna have to move him…but you have this summer if you think more suitors will be out there. Are you gonna get better offers than ‘29 LAL 1st+’28 swap+JHS+expiring $? I’m sure LAL would’ve thrown in a couple seconds or whatever the F.
They gave up a fake CHA 1st, (will end up as two 2nds) then their own ‘25/‘27 1sts & ‘26 swap. So they rly only gave up two 1sts, a swap (and one that prolly doesn’t have crazy upside) and two 2nds for Dejounte afaik. I mean if that LAL 1st was unprotected, or close (like T1, T2) then it’d instantly be one of the highest upside picks out there. If it’s unprotected, it’d be up there with like LAC ‘28 1st and stuff like that. ‘28 swap was surely unprotected, and again that has extremely high upside. Like if they were really holding off bc they wanted two 1sts & a swap bc it’s what they gave up, that seems not smart. I bet if you got the LAL ‘29 unprotected 1st, you could send it to OKC for two of their 1sts if quantity mattered more to them. And JHS isn’t 1st round value obv, but he’s young and has upside. On a rookie deal for 4y. I’d at least consider him to be worth those two CHA 2nds that fake 1st turns in to.
But idk, they’re 8M under the tax next year without counting their 1st rounder, counting the non gtds of Bruno Fernando and Garrison. Saddiq is an RFA. Their 1st should be at least a few million, plus I forgot they have SAC’s. So they’d be pretty much at the tax line with the current 12 plus two 1sts. They won’t have their own 1st next season, and even tho Jalen Johnson is awesome now, they’re not gonna be good. The big thing about trading Dejounte or whoever for an expiring now, is that’s all off ur books next year. If you trade him next year, you can prolly shave some salary…but you’re not cleaning 25.5M off your books.
And by trading Dejounte now, it would’ve seemingly made them worse also, which means higher lotto odds. They’re the 10 seed somehow at 22-29, 9th best lotto odds but still in the play in. No way they’re cracking the T4, or even T5 really…but they def could’ve had BKN and either TOR or MEM jump them. Maybe both. So instead of being around the play in, prolly looking at around the 6th or 7th best odds. If you’re 7, you’re like 86% to be T8. About 32% chance at T4. 6 gives you a 37.2% chance at T4, and you’re T7 about 76%. Vs where they are now, about 14% at T4 and T10 about 80%. And that’s if you don’t luck in to the play in. So basically a 32-37% chance at T4, and at least a T8 pick, vs prolly 10-11, or if you win the play in you’re like 15.
That’s a pretty big difference. And ya it’s not the best draft whatever, having a pick in the mid teens and then one in the T8…with extra draft capital and being COMFORTABLY below the tax to where you can use the full MLE…that’s enormous. They’d have Capela on a big expiring, and they could completely re-shape that roster. They’d have the draft capital to make a big move (T8, mid teens, ‘29, ‘31, LAL ‘29 pick, etc) or do whatever. Now they’re kinda stuck. Idk who the team is that’s gonna be offering like two good 1sts and a swap for Dejounte, you have limited flexibility, and you’re in no man’s land basically.
But I guess if LAL wasn’t actually willing to offer that (even tho every report said they were lol) then nothing you can do. Now you just gotta hope UTA or BKN or someone like that sees Dejounte as a building block and gives you what you want. I def wouldn’t wanna be ATL rn.

I hate that Olynyk trade for both teams.
For the Jazz it's like cool we got a first round pick for Olynyk. In a vacuum thats good business. But the thing is that if they're planning long-term then they should be wanting the first that they owe to OKC to convey this year to free up all of their future draft capital. And without Olynyk it becomes extremely hard. He was important for them. I just don't think that valuing the 27th or 28th pick in 2024 over freeing their own 2025 or 2026 pick was wise.
And for the Raptors it's like okay Olynyk is a good player and we'll probably re-sign him in the offseason and Agbaji was a lottery pick a few years ago. We're just giving up a late first? You can talk yourself into it. But you just started a rebuild. Olynyk is about to turn 33. Agbaji hasn't shown anything beyond on ball defense and the ability to hit a corner 3 (sometimes). Everything else has been bad. If I'm them I'd just much rather keep the 2024 pick and more years of team/cost control.
It seems like one of those deals where the teams discussed it, knew it was bad and then slowly talked themselves into it lol.

The thing with Murray is that the Hawks were never going to recoup everything they gave up for him. That trade was an overpay from the word go. And he has regressed as a defender, even though it’s not all his fault. He isn’t the player he was in San Antonio.

It really not that hard. Embiid got hurt so other teams decided that it was worth trying their chances. And some teams also decided to upgrade their depth like the Knicks did. Right now the sixers goal was to get under the luxury tax per new cba rules. No it's really not that bad. KO is a really nice floor spacing f/c to have with Scottie and Jak. Ochai is a really solid shooter and wing defender that we can develop. If that means giving up what's likely gonna be one of the last 5 or so first round picks in a weak class then I'll live with it. Plus if Kelly walks this summer that's more cap space we open up to bring in some real players

Given Dallas's potential for implosion, that might be one of the juiciest picks in the entire league. Plus a useful player in Grant Williams? I feel like if it wasn't Charlotte on the other end of the trade, people would be skewering Dallas and praising the team getting the pick.

Grant Williams forgot how to shoot and is quite simply too undersized to be a starting PF. Luka is one of the 5 best players in the league and the Mavs should be in win now mode for as long as they have him. Punting on the season because you’re too stingy with your picks to get your franchise player a reasonable defensive forward is a sure fire way to make sure an implosion happens sooner rather than later.
