Omonia/Athinas/Sophocleous has always been a bit rough . . . but whenever I think of dear ol' Athens this is the area that comes to my mind first. This walk was a delight, thank you so much for the hard work you put into making this video, it's great to see it all again.

Walking on a day when many shops are closed in winter time perhaps doesn't give the same good impression than a walk on a sunny day with open shops and crowds of people. Some people don't like graffiti, however I like Athens anyway. A few homeless people can be found in every city, however you cannot see many of them in this video. Greece suffered so much in last 10 years due to financial and economic crisis that many people might be less wealthy these days than before all the hard cutting of earnings, retirement or social payments. Compliments to Greek people that they managed to manage that difficult period and didn't loose hope. If you take into consideration the great ancient sights of Athens, too (Acropolis, Agora, anfitheatres, museums, orthodox churches, the huge port of Piraeus, Sintagma square, the parks ...) Athens is a beautiful city. Less accurate areas can be found in every city worldwide. I love Greece, Greek culture, people, food and so on. With love from Austria.

Actually, this area is known to be the worst in town (and the most ugly). Everybody living in Athens (including me) avoid to walk there.....

I havent been to Baltimore for years, but the last time I drove thru West Baltimore I remember how spooky it was. I remember there were no stores other than funeral parlors and bailsbondsmen. And I was in Athens a few months back, right thru these "bad" areas. At no point did I feel threatened or scared. Alert, yes, but compared to West Baltimore, a walk in the flower park

I miss Athens. I grew up there. If I didn’t have to leave I would have stayed there. I can’t wait to come there. And these are also the neighbourhood’s that I want to see, every neighbourhood in Athens has it’s own story.

When I was in Athens in July 2019 , there were some seedy neighborhoods that I wouldn't walk at night ; during the day it was ok; I remember walking down sofokleaus and it was like a third world area full of Indian and Pakistani shops and people

I loved your video. It's a lively, vibrant place...there seems to be no boredom in this neighborhood.
As for the not-so-beautiful and not-so-clean areas....besides the "danger zone reputation", the same can happen in any city in the world. I tried to focus my eyes on the architecture, on the details of the buildings... I love old buildings.
Congratulations for this video and thanks for sharing.

If you manage to film for an hour without being robbed or assaulted then it's a fine neighborhood to walk through. :) Sure it's not the upscale areas but it's still part of Athens and it's good to see every face of the city. :)

Deterioration, graffiti, ugliness, not the Athens I grew up in.
I feel very sad watching this, I have not visited since 2007 and it was somewhat better then now. Still, I wonder why the government has left everything in this ugly and ungodly state? I understand the economics, but the graffiti should be removed and banned can't be that expensive. Pride? Where is the pride that spend millions to host the Olympics? It was all for show...Shame this is government neglect it is
    criminal!
