Follow Mary Anne as she shares her story and finds it in her heart to see the blessing in everything this Chinese New Year.

For those who are confused, look back at the credits for clues, which I did. I kind of think of it this way, Mary Anne remarried to a Muslim Malay and then had her daughter. Thus, the young lady at the beginning criticizing the dentist is actually the dentist's half sister.
Its good to see this short film including all mixes of all Malaysians and those from mixed marriages as well.
I have friends whose parents are Chinese that have entered into mixed marriages with Muslim Malays. They too celebrate Chinese New Year, but they only observe the cultural elements of it. The food from their reunion dinners are always halal.
Then your friends are retards, one should never convert their believes for the sake of marriage, even if they do marry, it wouldn't even mean anything, the fact that they have to convert their theistic ideology, putting their beliefs after marriage is just a huge contradiction to a religion, and an unnecessary premillennialism.
James Lim neither you nor myself are to judge how they deal or experience their religion. It is after all a personal affair.
And are my friends retards? Last I checked they are still fine and dandy. We even had yum cha catching up last week. ☺

Although the mandarin accent is not perfect from the view from me as a mainland Chinese,
I still feel somehow moved because I know how hard it is to keep their culture and language alive, far away from China,

I like it and can appreciate it as I'm in a MIXED marriage and the fact that they appear to be a chinese family but the mom is wearing a tudung, and grandson kissed her hand in respect before departing...so am assumed that one of the parent is a malay (?), thus making the mum a chinese convert family -- but just coz a convert, doesnt stop them from still celebrating CNY with all the trappings of CNY culture...mixed marriage/multi-culture aspects conveyed. Although, some people can find it confusing...but who cares, keep up the good work MAS! Long live MAS!!
The mom was remarried to a Muslim, probably to that guy who said "plastic" instead of "antiseptic"... Just my opinion...

another meaningful vid with a pinch of humor by adibah noor. after the credits, ong ong ong. haha. all the stories are connected rupe-rupenye. so clever ^_^
I fell in love with this film. It not only contains simple values and objective of encouraging everyone to go back for the Reunion despite whatever misunderstanding or problems in the family, but the best part is the courage of the producer to inject in things that not any producer for commercial films will do. I admire his courage despite it being a commercial film where MAS probably paid a lot for the entire sponsorship. The completeness can be felt as it has beginning, story and end. I like the surprise at the end where suddenly the main character is actually the mother's son! Slowly the connections were revealed. Very good storytelling!
thank you MAS. another great short film. This will forever remind me of Malaysia, its diversity and how proud i am to be a part of it! Go Malaysia, go Malaysia Airlines.. make us proud. all of us, Malaysian.

Untuk sesiapa yang masih belum faham jalan crita, sebenarnya iklan CNY ni sambungan dari iklan Raya, doktor gigi ni sebenarnya anak saudara pramugari yang nama Marry Ann tu, lepas mak sebenar doktor gigi meninggal, Marry Ann dgn Namron (dad) bela dia. Marry Ann convert la kiranya. Marry Ann dengan Namron (dad) memang sayang betul2 dengan doktor gigi ni. Marry Ann ada anak punpuan sorang (punpuan yang kutuk doktor gigi di awal iklan ni) Kiranya punpuan tu sebenarnya sepupu (cousin) doktor gigi ni. Lepas tu,Namron (dad) meninggal, doktor gigi x sempat nak tengok buat kali terakhir. Sebab tu doktor gigi ni mcm bitter sikit dengan mak dia (mak angkat/mak saudara). Ha gitulah yang aku faham

It is important to remember that our blessings come from God and that we should share whatever blessings we have with others that are in need. The more you share the more God will give back to you. OK...so this is my interpretation...correct me if I'm wrong...the mother divorces / leaves the dentist's father (who knows if they married) when he was a kid...gives him an ang pow...but he throws it away because he's upset she's leaving the family (although is that an MAS uniform and is she just like flying away for work?) and he never really forgives her...years later...we see that she has raised another family with a Muslim husband, with children, including an adult daughter from the second marriage etc...somehow she ends up working with her son at his dental clinic...the relationship between the dentist and his half-siblings is amicable enough...although somewhat estranged at times...so he throws himself into his work...and then...he's supposed to work during CNY, but also fly off, but then decides against it after seeing the ang pow he threw away and recalling his mother telling him that he will forever remain his son (even though presumably she's leaving his father?) and stays home and apologises to his mum for the grudge he bore over the years...so is one of the message that we should forgive our parents even if they divorce...or remarry...because they don't love you any less...or am I overthinking here...because somehow I doubt he shares the same father as Mary Anne's daughter...

i just got a chance to take Malaysia Airline's international flight, and i must say the cabin crew's service was quite good. I hope that the management can handle the chaos wisely so that it wont spoil the name of our country.

***** Thanks for the info. Nowadays is uncommon to see stewardess wearing the hijab, out of work (at home, during layovers/nite-stopping). IMHO, they look more lovely wearing the hijab coz it focus more (one might say 'zoom in') the facial features.
jas1119 Something else also doesn't make sense. In those days,flight attendants were required to be single upon hiring, and were fired if they got married (or got pregnant). So how is it that this kid has a mother who was still a FA after giving birth to him?
Thank you very much for your response Linus Chung! I think you may have missed something though. Correct me if I am wrong, but your film establishes that the dentist was born in 1980 (year of the goat, he must be 36 this year), but the rule you cite did not come into effect until the MASEU Collective Agreement of 2002. Prior to that, a female flight attendant at MAS was required to resign if she became pregnant.
This was highlighted in the case of Beatrice Fernandez who joined MAS in 1980 and was fired after getting pregnant in 1991, a full 11 years of service later.

Here's my thought :
The doctor's mom remarried to a Muslim husband (who didn't make his appearance in this video), and had a daughter (the one who kissed her hand in the clinic), and a grandchild (who kissed her hand too), while the old man following behind is the kid's grandpa from his father's side (which means, the daughter's father in law). During the dinner we can see there's another man sitting beside the daughter (obviously his husband & the dad of the kid),
And here's the main point : All of these family members (the old man, daughter, husband and the kid), are from the previous MAS Merdeka Short Film named TERBANG (it's on the suggestion list at the right hand side now). Watch the video and you will find out the relationship of this mixed cultured family. The doctor and the daughter are having a same mom but with a different father with different ethnicity.
Well it's just my personal opinion and still, Kudos to the film's scriptwriter and producer. Can't wait for a new film from you all. And the last thing, both songs (Sky, from this video & Langit from Terbang) are damn niceeeeeeeee. Keep repeating it

Watched the latest film and it turns out that the Doctor is actually a nephew but not a real son , but he's calling her aunty as mum after his real mother passed away and stay with them (sister's hasrat mentioned in the latest film). Well, it's just my guess though and I do hope that someone from the storyteam can clarify it to us haha.
Hehe. But I don't understand one thing. The baby that comes while the man tells his mom hat his friends told only Malay can celebrate Hari Raya. You should be able to see an baby with he other father. Is he the father of the lady then? Ahmad's mother if you have seen Terbang story.

It's kinda reminds me of Arwah Yasmin Ahmad movie when i watched this. The characters and how it represents the real of Malaysian attitude. Example: sharp at 5pm terus balik (typical malay), asking for discount (typical malaysian), etc. Anyway, it's a good try though. Keep it up MAS.
