- Rannaghore Ke? is a fun adda with old and new friends about food, life and everything else. This is episode 8 with Rahul Arora, who ran the Bon Appetit cafes in Kolkata, which had branches in Hazra and Salt Lake, successfully for 13 years. He now bakes, and cooks small batches of curated menus on weekends.
In this episode, Rahul talks about his childhood, and growing up in a Punjabi household in Kolkata. Rahul is himself not at all an orthodox cook. In his curated Punjabi menus, especially, he demonstrates how food can be rooted in tradition and family history, and still have room for personal, modern, practical touches.
Enjoy the recipes Rahul teaches us: desi murga curry (with country-chicken), and a khatti-meethi pumpkin sabzi, which he then turns into a raita and a pulao!

I'm British and learned to cook in Kerala twenty years ago. I now cook desi Indian cuisine in the UK and have built a business around my passion for real Indian cuisine. Thank you for speaking English, very much appreciated. Great recipes and a very charismatic chef
I loved this from the word go. You could tell 2 seconds into it that Rahul is a warm, funny, knowledgeable, genuine, lovely character. And the Punjabi-Bengali combination was fascinating to watch. Loved what he said about LGBT rights needing to be in a restaurant’s internal memos, not just on social media.
And now he’s going to hate me for saying this … but it genuinely worried me to see how out of breath he was. Rahul if you’re reading, you’re too awesome to be this out of breath. We want to see you around for a long time.
He is such a great storyteller! He is breathing heavily - please take care of your health, Rahul.
If Rahul is reading this, then he should know that we really want Bon Appetit back in salt lake! The happiest memories of after school and tuition hours were spent there. What a walk down memory lane to just see him here on your channel. 🤍
We don't live there any more , so sweet of you to remember and keep us living in your hearts
This episode brings a lot of memories. I am meeting Rahul for the first time through your channel but Rahul's food is not new to me. I used to work at Salt Lake and his Bon Appetit cafe was right beside our office. I was fresh from village, new to the city of Kolkata and naive about the cuisine of sandwiches, pastas and even decorative noodles. :P
Price was affordable if we share the food among colleagues. And Rahul's chefs were generous in using cheese which made his cute, little restaurants an instant hit among us. Those were the days of innocence, less office pressure and pure friendship. Rahul's food played a silent role in making everything yummy and cozy then. Thanks for hosting Rahul. :)
I knew neither about Rahul nor about Bon Appetit before watching this video. Yet felt an instant connection with this heart warming episode and its 'hero'. Was glued to the screen for its entire duration. Thank you so much Bong Eats for bringing this to us.
P.S. Respect how you do not hesitate to promote what you believe in (no matter how high the stakes are) - be it your stance on CAA/NRC or your sensitivity towards the LGBTQIA+ community.
This was such a fun episode to watch 😃please bring him back on the show sometime

I live near Hazra, Bhowanipur to be exact and all during my school and college life Bon Appetit was my go to place. I used to be a avid visitor up until it closed. I remember visiting the place after covid only to realize the outlet has shut down.. my tastebuds still remember the finger-licking taste of meatball pizza, chicken pockets, grilled sandwich and the oh-so delicious chocolate avalanche... Ahh, what a pity :)
This is one of the best episodes of rannaghore ke? ❤

Thank you so much for cogently critiquing the pomposity of the capitalist gimmick that robs the significance of queer standpoint in many dimensions sir. Inclusivity and acceptance should come from the core of collective consciousness. ❤️ ❤️
