[Elliot Here] First off thanks to Jenn for filming this video! After I fell, I knew there was no immediate danger and asked Jen to film even though she just wanted to help. She was a superstar keeping the house together and making sure Ollie was cared for. ❤️ Secondly thank you to everyone watching and supporting our journey so far! You have all been so kind and encouraging for us new boaters, and we are thankful for each and every one of you who have watched our videos. We hope this explains why we aren’t further on the Loop and why we’ve been behind on so many videos but in less than 2 weeks we’ll be in real time (or at least very close to it).
Dang! Docks can be dangerous. Have hurt myself twice. Once when the dock gave out on me and I fell through cracking some ribs and once when I slipped getting off the boat and nearly broke my leg. I've learned to be vewy vewy careful messing around boats and docks. Glad you're OK.
Elliot, so sorry to learn about your misfortune. Wishing you a speedy recovery on this adventure. Life tends to throw hurdles at us from time to time. Just keep persevering. Speedy recovery!!
Thanks so much Paul - as time passes it was just a small blip! 5 months later (today) and it has opened up new opportunities. There’s always a silver lining 👍
Gahh it’s so scary to see this play out! We are so glad that Elliot was able to get help and that Ollie was cared for and are just so proud of y’all for staying positive with another pivot. ❤️
Wow, hopefully, your ride was in better health than ours! If not, then I hope your recovery went smoothly 💪 Wasn't a super quick recovery but not too bad in the grand scheme. Thanks for watching Todd!
Oh you poor dears! I realize I am late with my comments but I am just catching up watching the videos. I am so sorry about the fall and am sure (hopeful) you are fully healed by now. I am thankful for the filming. I didn't see anything graphic and it is good to hear about these things as a warning to us to be careful. My husband and I are a lot older than you so missing a step like that is more likely for our age group. Yikes! God bless you on your journey.
Ooo boy I did something similar getting ON my boat once. Misstepped and landed on my shoulder and jacked the rotator cuff up. I can still feel it just thinking about it. And this was right after the boat lift dropped my boat in the water, so I had to get it out of the slip and back to our dock. And I was by myself. Right after I did it I as in total denial, but halfway across the adrenaline wore off. Not a fun trip. I called some friends nearby to come meet me at the pier and luckily they were available because I had no clue how I was going to tie up, I could barely move.
Hope you get better quickly and are able to keep going on your trip. I'm glad Ollie was looked after. I worried about her too! Take care, kudos to Jenn for looking after you two!
OMG Elliot. That was some experience. Glad you’re ok. Well done to Jen for keeping her head during what must have been very stressful. Get well soon. Take care of yourselves ❤️❤️
So glad you are ok. Not a fun day. You seemed to both handle it very well. So glad they got you to a hospital quickly. You are not alone. Stepping from the boat to the dock and back has caused a lot of injuries - moving boat and all. I’m glad you didn’t fall between the boat and the dock. Heal up well and quickly.
So sorry about the accident, but glad that they were able to take care of you quickly. I'm sure it was a bit scary to have this happen on a remote island in the Chesapeake Bay. Best wishes for a complete recovery and continuation of your trip. I hope you got some of that delicious Smith Island Cake. It will definitely help the healing process. Every day on a boat is an adventure!
[ am so sorry you got injured.. Smith Island is such a neat place and you will not get to enjoy it the way you should have. Hopefully you willl have a speedy recovery so you can get back enjoying your LOOP
It's so tough to watch this video... we love you both so much!! 🥰 So impressed that you were able to keep the camera rolling, Jenn and Elliot for being able to still talk to the camera and be so positive! You guys are both our idols 😍
Unless you have cruised in your own boat, it’s hard to know the rewards and the struggles , simple things require so much effort and the moment you let your guard down the cruising gods will jump up and bite you! Just remember every great memory in life comes attached to a story. I know it’s hard to believe but One day this set back will make a great story. Just keep on keeping on and thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Al! Very true, it was tough in the moment but after it passed it was alright and now a few months later it was only a little blip. Thanks for your support!
Wow! Hope you are fully mended Elliot! We are looking at doing the great loop and an injury on the way is one of our big fears. Glad to hear that help was nearby and someone was able to take care of Ollie while you were on the mainland.
We are so grateful for Kathy and watching Ollie - it was a huge weight off our shoulders… Well hopefully after watching our journey you can see its just another challenge to overcome and bounce back from! (Although we hope it never happens to you or anyone else!)
Haha there’s always a silver lining… The helicopter’s view was gorgeous! Unfortunately as i was strapped into the middle of the copter I didn’t have as great a view but Jen was on the side with the better view 😁
This is a real painful setback; but it is good to see that at least You didn't break Your funny bone. You kept good cheer and We could tell You wanted to throw some humor in here somewhere. 🍻⚓ Cheers to Jenn for doing everything to help You.
Excellent video keeping it up, And I so sorry about this happened to you!!...And you light the world with your beautiful, wonderful and distinctive words May God always protect you, Lord, and guide you, Lord👉💞👈
OH my, get well soon, we fear a fall off of our boat also , being a flush deck style we are about twice as high as Pivot, My wife gets mad at me because i am always reminding her not to try to carry anything up the ladder .. we hand things onboard after one of us is onboard ,, the three points of contact is a hard and fast rule for me.. either two hands on the rail and one foot on the ladder or two feet on the ladder and one hand on the handrail. about 5 years ago my wife shattered her wrist while roller skating ( at 64 ) had 6 screws and a plate put in.. I am hoping you will not need surgery and that you heal fast... Bakery and dog sitter..got to love small communities
Three points of contact are key! All it takes is one slip like this and even though I fell pretty correctly it was just too far a height differential… Very wise! Small communities are definitely amazing, thanks James!
Wow. I hope you heal quickly and I’m so sorry this happened to you. When did this happen? Is Jean hanging in there too ? This can be tough on the whole family emotionally. Sending healthy thoughts to you Elliot and strength to you and Jenn and Elliot for the power through this. Best Wishes, Eric
Jen’s hanging in! Long story short, this isn’t my first injury in our 13 year relationship so she’s been through it before although this is definitely the most unique. This happened right before Memorial Day in late May so currently 5 months later we are back on Pivot! Thanks for the kind wishes Eric!
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m glad you got taken care of and Ollie made a bunch of new friends I’m sure she wasn’t happy about the situation either but she wasn’t alone worrying herself to death
Thanks! The important things were handled including Ollie.. when we picked her up (we didn't film it) She seemed to be having a much better time then Jenn and I haha, we are so grateful!
Wow....sorry to hear about your accident. Ohhhh no pain meds! You're lucky you broke your wrist instead of breaking a leg. I broke my leg to where I have a rod in my leg and screws in my ankle and foot. Had to use a wheelchair for 14 months. Something like that would put a crimp in your boat-living lifestyle. I won't bore you with all that I had to go through. Hope you have a fast recovery!
Oooh a broken leg definitely sounds worse. No mobility makes things much harder... 14 months is a very long recovery but sounds like you've made it through! The wrist is all healed now so all is well that ends well!

@@davidingraham1989 we are at the town we ferried back to Smith Island from! Decided to stay here and upgrade / do some major fixes for Pivot before we leave back on the Loop since the wrist recovery took so long. We’ll be out of here and on the water in a couple weeks.
Elliot, good grief...hope you are on the mend. This for sure is NOT the highlight of this Loop trip. In a couple of years you will look back on this and wonder how you survived the helo medevac. That is well over 10k parts in that helo all trying to get away from one another. Both you and Jenn stay upbeat, take one day at a time. Sure glad the folks on Smith Island know how to handle a casualty. Props to the Maryland State Police.
Huge props to Smith Island’s community as well as the Maryland State Police! It won’t be a highlight just another memory - there’s always silver lining and it could have been much worse for sure. Thanks for your support Jeffrey!

Oh man so sorry to hear this. Speedy recovery.
Thanks Deb! Unfortunate but just a hurdle!
Prayers and hugs and love. Speedy recovery Elliot.

I rode on that chopper too back in 2003. Great way to see Maryland. Hoping you recovery was quick. Guess I'll see as I continue to watch.
