Make sure you get that grade 8 bolt out ASAP. It won’t shear and can do some major damage to your equipment. I may or may not have shattered a PTO hosing and had to replace the whole rear end of a tractor..
A blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. :) I think my interest in balers, from the mechanical aspect, studying their operation in fields, and on RUclips for so many years was very helpful. I've since run this baler two more times and I have learned a little bit each time. By no means am I efficient and I would imagine I am a little hard on the equipment in some respects, but it is enjoyable to help folks out and get my mechanical kicks in without the overhead or stress.
Hey Beef, You should do a diesel series like maintenance and what to look for when buying a garden tractor with diesel, how to check compression on a diesel, I know all that would help me, by the way will a soft sided cab from a 318 fit a 430?
The 4066R is a 52 PTO hp machine. A model 70 had about 50 PTO hp but weighed at least 2000 lbs more than a 4066R. Most people pull these balers with machines in the 40+ range. When you couple the baler and the full hay rack on the tractor you can tell that the 4066R needs more weight.
curious about your fuel ussage estimate......we thought we would try to step down in tractor size to a 4 series hystat tractor for our 336 baler from a 5 series and just see how it goes ....only thing i saw you do wrong is with a 336 baler you need to make right hand turns for the pto shaft setup sometimes you cant help it though.......looked like a pro otherwise
It would be hard to even guess on fuel usage during baling. Based on napkin math the machine uses about 1.7-8 gph... but that is just napkin math. I had a bunch of fuel use data recorded in my phone, about the first 200 hours of use... but when my last phone died it took all that with it. Thanks for the comments.
Thanks for sharing! I have been wondering how a 4066 would do for small farm baling needs, this was good to see. Side note, in my experience, baling has rarely been relaxing for me :) It seems like we spend half our time fiddling with the baler or fixing something or another! Glad it went better for you with only one repair to make!
This brought back good memories of haying when I was a kid. Thanks for the post

My grandfather ran a JD70 gas in front of the baler for years!!! Nice video.
The guys standing on the bale wagon slept really good that night! lol
Yes, I work with one of them and he said he’s almost recovered... 3 days later!
I bale a lot of hay and I couldn’t tell this was your first time. I was surprised actually when you said it.

@@mmrbeef Well you done a fine job! Come on by my channel sometime. We’re doing snow plowing right now but I have a lot of hay making on there also.
When we square bale, with 150 on our hay rack, it’ll push around a 4020 in our hills near Sioux City, IA.
I am sure hills and larger racks would make this job much more challenging!

How is that full load on the 4066R when back in the day people put smaller tractors on it? Somebody said they had a Model 70 on it.

Do you have loaded tires? And ever try a round baler?
Is your tractor hydostatic

Do you clean the Cab air filter intakes?
Yes, cleaned them before I left and it’s on my list to do this coming weekend. It wasn’t too terribly dusty so it should be OK.
How many bales can you get per day?
We did about 600 in about 5 hrs of run time.... But daily production I would have no clue. I don't think our pace was sustainable.
