For those who dont know, this entire album, lyrically was written for Daniel's children, each song being a lesson of sorts for life. Making this one of Daniel's most personal albums, it seems to mean a lot to him.
You mean ONE of his children. This album was written and releases when he very first child was born. Also, to add to the op, this album explores Daniel's own wishes, hopes, love and fears for his first born child. Allure is about the lustful implications behind intercourse. Evolution is a bit more vague bur in some way, Daniel expreses positives feelings for his child, it's like a love letter to him. Miracle follows a similar theme but ends in a negative note where Dan sees himself as cynical and bad, but hopeful the world will have a good future for his child to grow in. New Devik explores Daniel's own aggressive tendencies, it's a contrast to Miracle, as he now sees the world as hopless and with no future. Then comes Guiding Lights, where, besides exposing a state of desperation, he tries his best to collect his worries, and rather than telling his child his more cynical/negative views on the world, he teaches him what he struggles to do himself: to be compassionate with the world. He also views both his wife and child as his guiding lights, and he'll follow them anywhere so that he can grow with them.
It's so hard to pick the best song on this masterpiece, but if I had to pick one it'd be this one. Album of the year. Somehow the masses will overlook this gem and this band will never blow up popularity wise but it's the mindless music masses loss not ours.
Straight up. I wish music was judged by a real standard, taking into account complexity, power, creativity, and lyrics (if applicable). This would win in a heartbeat.
Why do we need the masses to love this? We are able to hear it because we are listening to it. It saves us from larger ticket prices and availability. Music is judged by a real standard and we are doing it. Life is good, so just listen and thank them by buying their stuff!!

Well, except for Plini, they're all instrumental prog classical compositions that blow me away after hundreds of listens. I have a feeling I'll be listening to SkyHarbor for a while and I've already purchased their CD Guiding Lights.

This song is almost unbelievable to me. Every single layer from this is absolutely perfect. I've only heard one song as perfect as this one: Comfortably Numb. That's how good this is.
I've been listening to this album for so many months, I haven't even had the words to describe what this album means to me. This song is the one to beat, how very universally and cosmically smashing! Sky Harbor has achieved true cosmic synthesis. I am so proud to have loved this band for some years now, their sound has matured into a mastery tune for a cosmic trip of the ages. Agreed. The combination of the instrumentals and dans writing style made this album what it was. Whether or not you like Eric’s voice better than Dans is one thing, but there’s no denying that the melodies, lyrics and vocal parts overall are miles ahead on Guiding Lights than any of the new stuff.
I agree as well. In my opinion, Ashe was the best fit for Tesseract and Dan for Skyharbor. As singers, I found them both equally excellent. I still hope/dream that I will hear again Ashe with Tessercat and Dan with Skyharbor.

I hate to say it, because this album made Skyharbor one of my favorite bands, but the new stuff just does not compare to Guiding Lights in any way. It’s a huge bummer, but I guess this album was just meant to stand alone for the rest of time.

You're raising a false equivalency, and mistaking cause for effect. Pressure from greedy labels is what causes bands to dilute their work, and this is what causes them to make more money. You don't all of a sudden become corrupt once your audience reaches some sort of critical mass, there has to be a very long chain of conscious decisions made by all parties involved. There's a lot of great bands out that have been writing nothing but masterpieces for more than twenty years, and yet their audiences just keep on growing.
